Runelvys Hernandez's agent said his client's 50-game amphetamines suspension has been withdrawn by MLB because it was a first offense.
If MLB could actually get this wrong and issue a press release saying a guy was suspended 50 games when such a penalty didn't apply, it speaks to a major flaw in the league's system. Anyway, Hernandez, a minor league free agent, is still a cheater, something that won't help his job hunt this winter. However, he will be eligible to pitch in April if he somehow makes a team. MLB suspended RHP Runelvys Hernandez 50 games for testing positive for amphetamines.

Because the minor league season is over, Hernandez, who was sent down by the Astros in July, will begin serving the suspension next year. Perhaps the free agent will consider signing with a team in Japan or Korea in order to avoid the suspension. He wasn't going to have much of a chance of making an MLB team next spring anyway.

Astros sent RHP Runelvys Hernandez outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

The move essentially makes Hernandez a minor league free agent. He was 0-3 with an 8.38 ERA in four starts for the Astros this season.

Astros optioned RHP Runelvys Hernandez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Hernandez went 0-3 with an 8.38 ERA in his four starts for Houston.

Runelvys Hernandez allowed just two runs in 5 1/3 innings, but the Astros fell to the Pirates on Monday night.

That John Van Benschoten and Hernandez combined to allow just four earned runs in 10 1/3 innings of work could actually be the basis for a sports movie. Hernandez did allow eight hits, though, and his 15/11 K/BB ratio helps explain his 8.38 ERA. Fantasy leaguers should only be thinking about him when their hitters are fortunate enough to face him.

Astros recalled RHP Runelvys Hernandez from Triple-A Round Rock.

He'll start Monday night against the Pirates, who clearly must have done something right to deserve such good luck. Hernandez went 0-3 with a 10.29 ERA in three starts for the Astros earlier this season, making him 14-27 with a 6.13 ERA in 53 starts since 2005. He "earned" the call-up by going 6-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 65/27 K/BB ratio in 17 starts at Triple-A.

Astros optioned RHP Runelvys Hernandez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Hernandez earned the demotion by allowing 17 runs in 14 innings spread over three starts. Since beginning his career with two decent seasons, Hernandez is now 14-27 with a 6.13 ERA in 53 starts over the past four years. At 30 years old, he should be out of chances.

Runelvys Hernandez was clobbered by the Pirates on Monday night, as he surrendered a staggering 10 runs on 13 hits and four walks over four innings of work.

Right now Hernandez is not really a better fantasy option than the pitcher he replaced, Shawn Chacon, who is currently out of baseball.

Making his Astros debut, Runelvys Hernandez yielded three runs over five innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday.

That's probably about what Shawn Chacon would have done, though GM Ed Wade can feel safer after the game now. Hernandez shouldn't have any fantasy value while acting as the Astros' fifth starter.

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Runelvys Hernandez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Hernandez will make his Astros debut when he starts Friday. The 30-year-old right-hander is 25-33 with a 5.38 ERA in 78 career major league starts.

Runelvys Hernandez has been ruled out as a starter for the Astros.

Shocker. He's given up 11 runs in 10 1/3 innings this spring, but is still being considered for a bullpen job. He'll most likely serve a bullpen role in Triple-A.

Astros signed RHP Runelvys Hernandez and outfielder Nick Gorneault to minor league contracts.

Hernandez went 1-7 with a 4.35 ERA in 17 Triple-A starts last year. The fastball is still there for him to potentially remeerge as a useful pitcher, but that's about the only thing he has working in his favor at this point. Gorneault figures to join Victor Diaz in the outfield at Triple-A Round Rock.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pirates are "talking to" Runelvys Hernandez.

Hernandez pitched for Pittsburgh's Triple-A team briefly last season, but was let go when the Pirates failed to add him to the MLB roster in September. After going 1-7 with a 4.35 ERA in 17 total Triple-A starts last season, he'll have to work his way back to the majors.

Yankees signed RHP Runelvys Hernandez to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton.

Hernandez opted out of his minor league deal with the Red Sox last month and will join Scranton's rotation. He posted a 3.06 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Triple-A Pawtucket's Runelvys Hernandez exercised an out clause in his contract with the Red Sox to become a free agent.

Hernandez has a 3.06 ERA in seven starts for Pawtucket, but he wasn't going to be in line for a callup anytime soon. He should quickly land with the Nationals or another team struggling to fill out its rotation.
