Dodgers released C Josh Bard.
Bard was inked to a non-guaranteed minor league contract this winter and never stood much of a chance of cracking the Dodgers' Opening Day roster. He'll presumably try to latch on with a different organization. Thu, Mar 29, 2012 07:23:00 PM

Dodgers signed C Josh Bard to a minor league contract.

The two sides were reportedly close to a deal earlier this month. Bard, who turns 34 in March, batted just .210/.256/.333 over 81 at-bats for the Mariners this past season. Things could change during spring training, but A.J. Ellis and Matt Treanor are the favorites to share catching duties going into 2012.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers are discussing a minor league deal with Josh Bard.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reported the Dodgers signed Bard to a one-year, $750,000 contract, but Hernandez writes that it isn't a "slam dunk." Bard wouldn't be assured of a roster spot if the deal is completed, so A.J. Ellis and Matt Treanor remain the favorites to be with the big club on Opening Day.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Dodgers have signed Josh Bard to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

It's not clear if it's a major or minor league deal. Bard would likely share the catching duties with Matt Treanor until Tim Federowicz is ready. He batted just .210/.256/.333 over 81 at-bats for the Mariners this past season.

Mariners purchased the contract of C Josh Bard from Triple-A Tacoma.

Bard hasn't played recently due to a toe injury, but has convinced M's skipper Eric Wedge that he's ready to go. He'll provide some insurance behind the plate while Chris Gimenez is on the disabled list with an oblique injury and Miguel Olivo is sidelined with cramps in his right hamstring.

Josh Bard is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Braves.

Bard, who was playing with Triple-A Tacoma, still needs to be added to the active roster. He'll presumably replace backup catcher Chris Gimenez, who strained his oblique during Tuesday's game.

Mariners re-signed C Josh Bard to a minor league contract.

The contract includes an invite to major league spring training. Bard, who turns 33 in March, batted .214/.276/.357 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 126 plate appearances with the Mariners last season. He also threw out six of 18 would-be basestealers. With Miguel Olivo and Adam Moore already in place, he's unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster.

Josh Bard finished 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in the Mariners' 9-3 defeat of the Indians on Saturday in Cleveland.

An old fashioned battle of who could care less. Bard led his 46-71 Mariners over the 48-69 Tribe with a double, two singles and a monstrous grand slam. He's batting .256/.330/.449 as Seattle's second catcher and may have earned himself a few more looks. For now, Adam Moore remains the No. 1.

Adam Moore, who had been out with a neck injury, returned to the starting lineup for the Mariners on Sunday.

Josh Bard (calf) has begun a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma.

Bard was placed on the disabled list back on May 28 with a calf strain and may need a week of at-bats at Tacoma to get his timing right. Once he is ready, the M's will option Eliezer Alfonzo back to the minor leagues.

Mariners placed C Josh Bard on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain.

It's apparently more serious than we first believed. Bard suffered the injury while rounding first base on Wednesday. Eliezer Alfonzo has been called up and will share time behind the plate with Rob Johnson.
