Clay Condrey will undergo platelet-rich plasma therapy on his right elbow next Tuesday.

It's a last-ditch effort to avoid surgery. Condrey was moved to the 60-day disabled list on Monday and according to the Associated Press, he is expected to be out at least three months.

Condrey is still deciding whether to have surgery on his right arm. No matter the path he chooses, he's unlikely to pitch in the majors this year.

Clay Condrey (elbow) has been presented with an alternative to surgery on his right arm.

Condrey could choose to have PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections instead of surgery to fix the strain in his right flexor muscle. If he does have the PRP injections, he could pitch again this season, but surgery would knock him out for the year. Manager Ron Gardenhire said a decision on Condrey will be made soon.

Clay Condrey is likely to undergo surgery on his right arm.

Condrey has been on the disabled list since the start of the season with a muscle strain in his throwing elbow and was shut down recently from his rehab. The surgery, if he has it, will end his season prematurely.

Yet another setback for the rehabbing right-hander. Condrey has been on the disabled list since the beginning of the season with a muscle strain in his elbow and had just begun a rehab assignment. Now we once again have no timetable for his return. He shouldn't be counted on in the month of July.

Clay Condrey (elbow) will continue his rehab after tossing three scoreless innings Friday for Class-A Fort Myers.

"He threw the ball great," manager Ron Gardenhire said of Condrey. "Everything's coming out of his hand really good." Gardy wants to give Anthony Slama and Kyle Waldrop, who has both been terrific at Triple-A, a shot, but he acknowledged that Condrey might get the call first. "We signed him for a reason," Gardenhire said. We'll have to see."

Condrey fired another seven pitches in the bullpen afterward and reported no problems with his once-strained right elbow. He's expected to throw two innings next time out, then it may be time for a rehab assignment.

Condrey has been out of commission since the end of spring training with a strained right elbow. He's expected to head to the Twins' Fort Myers facility soon to begin participating in extended spring games. The reliever is probably about three weeks from returning to action.

Clay Condrey (elbow) suffered another setback Wednesday when he tried to throw.

"I think he's a little flustered right now trying to figure out what's going on," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. Condrey was diagnosed with a flexor strain of the elbow earlier this month. The current plan is to shut Condrey down and reevaluate him after an undetermined amount of time.

An MRI on Clay Condrey's right elbow revealed a flexor strain but no other structural or ligament damage.

Still, he will be shut down for 10-14 days in order to rest the elbow. Twins general manager Bill Smith said the team hopes to get him back on the mound shortly thereafter. Naturally, he's a long shot to contribute this month.

Twins placed RHP Clay Condrey on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a strained right elbow.

Condrey threw 25 pitches in a minor league game on Friday and while no setbacks were reported, the Twins don't think he's ready. It's not yet known if he'll only need the minimum on the disabled list.
