Quatraro has been the assistant hitting coach with the Indians for the past four seasons, but he has a history with the Rays both as a player and a coach in the minors. He'll replace Charlie Montoyo, who is making the switch to bench coach.

Former Rays' pitching coach Jim Hickey has already been approached by several interested teams.

Hickey was relieved of his duties as the Rays' pitching coach last week after 11 seasons with the club, getting replaced by Kyle Snyder. He is expected to wait until the end of the playoffs to see what all of the possible openings are before deciding his next course of action.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Rays bench coach Tom Foley is being reassigned to a new role in the organization.

Cash, who turns 37 on Saturday, becomes the youngest active manager in the majors. He ultimately got the job over former Mariners manager and current Royals bench coach Don Wakamatsu. "We are proud to introduce Kevin as our manager," Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement. "His energy and dynamic personality will fit seamlessly with our clubhouse. We are fortunate to have such a talented individual, and Tampa Bay native, to lead our club as we strive to achieve new heights as a team and organization."
