Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Marlins have spoken to Rays director of player personnel Matt Arnold about a position in their front office.

The Marlins are making a concerted effort to improve their front office, and Arnold would be a tremendous get if they are able to lure him away from the Rays. There is expected to be a major shakeup in the Marlins front office this winter.

Rays hired Kevin Cash as manager.

Cash, who turns 37 on Saturday, becomes the youngest active manager in the majors. He ultimately got the job over former Mariners manager and current Royals bench coach Don Wakamatsu. "We are proud to introduce Kevin as our manager," Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement. "His energy and dynamic personality will fit seamlessly with our clubhouse. We are fortunate to have such a talented individual, and Tampa Bay native, to lead our club as we strive to achieve new heights as a team and organization."

Former major league catcher Kevin Cash has decided to retire.

He'll remain involved in the game, as Cash, 34, has caught on with the Blue Jays as a major league advance scout. The defense-first backstop posted an ugly .183/.248/.278 career batting line over parts of eight seasons for the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rays, Yankees and Astros.

Rangers signed C Kevin Cash to a minor league deal.

The definition of a defense-first catcher, Cash has put together a horrendous .183/.248/.278 batting line over eight big league seasons. He'll likely be given a shot to compete for the backup job in spring training.

Red Sox activated C Kevin Cash from the 15-day disabled list.

Kevin Cash (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with a double in a minor league rehab game with Single-A Lowell on Sunday.

He also caught seven innings. Cash also played with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, so it appears he is very close to returning from the disabled list. Cash has been sidelined since earlier this month due to a strained left hamstring.

Red Sox placed C Kevin Cash on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 9, with a strained left hamstring.

Astros purchased the contract of C Kevin Cash from Triple-A Round Rock.

Cash, 32, was batting .174/.208/.174 over 23 at-bats with Triple-A Round Rock. The veteran receiver has a similarly putrid .186/.248/.287 batting line in the major leagues, so he should fit right in with the Astros. He'll function as the primarly backup to Humberto Quintero until Jason Castro is deemed ready, likely after Memorial Day.

Astros reassigned C Jason Castro, C Kevin Cash, RHP Casey Daigle, RHP Gary Majewski, RHP Gustavo Chacin, IF Drew Meyer and 1B Chris Shelton to minor league camp; optioned RHP Wilton Lopez, IF Edwin Maysonet to Triple-A Round Rock.

J.R. Towles and Humberto Quintero have captured the two catching spots on the Astros' Opening Day roster, though it's not clear which one will start. Castro is one of the top prospects in the organization and could be recalled quickly if Towles and Quintero struggle out of the gate.

Astros signed C Kevin Cash to a minor league contract.

Cash was dumped by the Yankees in September of last season after batting .250/.308/.558 with three RBI in 26 at-bats on the major league level. The 32-year-old will have trouble leaping over J.R. Towles and Humberto Quintero, but he may find at-bats if one of the two is injured.
