White Sox acquired RHP Franklyn German from the Pirates for a player to be named.
He'll be assigned to Triple-A Charlotte. German posted a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings for the Rangers this season, but he was outrighted and opted for free agency. The righty signed with the Pirates, where he had a 3.58 ERA in 27 2/3 innings at Triple-A. The White Sox are scrambling for pitching depth, and German could join their bullpen soon. He'll have to work on his 37/30 K/BB ratio so far this year. Mon, Aug 11, 2008 11:13:00 AM

Franklyn German has refused his assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma and is now a free agent.

German had a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings before being sent down. Surely somebody can use the guy.

Rangers sent RHP Franklyn German outright to Triple-A Oklahoma.

No one wanted a 28-year-old with a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings? Obviously, there's plenty of pitching in the majors after all.

Rangers designated RHP Franklyn German for assignment.

Some reward for pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday. German had a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings, so even though he's not a great bet going forward, we can't imagine him possibly clearing waivers. It's surprising that a Rangers team short on pitching is going to let him get away.

The Rangers are reporting that Franklyn German was pulled after facing just one batter in the ninth inning of Friday's game because of back stiffness.

German felt his back tighten while warming up and decided not to tell anyone until he got in the game and let up a two-run double. He was not available Saturday, but manager Ron Washington expects him to be ready for Sunday.

Rangers purchased the contracts of RHP Franklyn German, C Adam Melhuse and RHP Jamey Wright from Triple-A Oklahoma.

German and Josh Rupe would seem to be the top candidates to be sent down when Luis Mendoza comes off the disabled list on April 12. In the meantime, they'll pitch in middle relief.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Franklyn German and Jamey Wright have won spots in the Rangers' bullpen.

The Rangers are said to have told Frank Francisco and Eric Hurley that they're heading to the minors, leaving Josh Rupe, Robinson Tejeda, Wes Littleton and Kameron Loe battling for the two remaining spots on the staff.

Franklyn German threw two scoreless innings Tuesday night versus the Mariners.

German did walk his third and fourth batters in nine innings this spring, but he lowered his ERA to 1.00. It's expected to be enough to get him a bullpen spot over an erratic Frank Francisco. We're skeptical it will last -- German has walked 106 batters in 137 innings as a major leaguer -- but he is throwing well right now.

Rangers signed RHP Franklyn German to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

German dealt with shoulder issues throughout last season and was limited to 23 1/3 innings between the majors and minors. In 12 innings with the Marlins, he gave up only four runs, but he walked 14 batters. The Rangers will likely have him begin the season at Triple-A Oklahoma. He could earn a promotion with a strong month or two.

Franklyn German cleared waivers and has been assigned to Triple-A.

It's surprising that no team took a chance on German, who was designated for assignment earlier this month.

Marlins designated RHP Franklyn German for assignment.

German hadn't pitched since coming off the DL earlier this week. He had a 3.00 ERA in 12 innings before getting hurt last month, though that came with 14 walks. There's still a pretty good chance that he'll be claimed on waivers.

Franklyn German will likely be designated for assignment prior to Thursday's game at Colorado.

The Rockies are expected to call up former first round pick Taylor Tankersley from Double-A Carolina to take German's roster spot. German hasn't pitch for the Marlins since May 9 when he left a game with shoulder tendinitis.
