Nationals released INF Jamey Carroll.

Carroll wasn't going to make the Nats' Opening Day roster as a backup infielder and will now go in search of a better opportunity. He turned 40 years old this winter and batted just .211/.267/.251 last season.

Nationals signed INF Jamey Carroll to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The agreement was first reported by Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish and then confirmed by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Carroll will serve as a utilityman in 2014 for the Nationals as long as he shows that he has something left in spring training. He turns 40 years old next month and batted just .211/.267/.251 last season.

Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca hears that Jamey Carroll with either sign with the Indians or Nationals.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported Thursday that Carroll is close to finalizing a deal with a team and that an announcement should be made by the end of the day Friday. Carroll, 39, also drew serious interest this offseason from the Rays, Rangers, Blue Jays and Padres despite hitting .211/.267/.251 in 2013.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, free agent Jamey Carroll is close to signing a contract.

But the team that he's close to signing with has not been identified. Carroll, who turns 40 years old next month, batted just .211/.267/.251 in 249 plate appearances last season between the Twins and Royals. He's been linked to the Rays, Rangers, Indians, Blue Jays and Padres this winter.

According to beat writer Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies are not among the teams interested in free agent infielder Jamey Carroll.

Carroll is reportedly mulling over offers from several teams with a decision coming soon, but a return to the Rockies won't be among the options. The Rays, Rangers, Indians, Blue Jays, Royals and Padres are believed to have interest in the 39-year-old.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that free agent infielder Jamey Carrroll is evaluating offers from several teams and that a decision could come soon.

Several teams have been linked to Carroll this offseason including the Rays, Rangers, Indians, Blue Jays, Royals and Padres. The 39-year-old is expected to be utilized in a utility role and remains an unattractive option for fantasy purposes.

Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Rays are interested in free agent infielders Jamey Carroll and Mark Reynolds.

Carroll continues to draw a shocking amount of interest for a 39-year-old coming off a season in which he batted just .211/.267/.251 in 249 plate appearances. In addition to the Rays, the Rangers, Indians, Blue Jays, Royals and Padres have all expressed at least some level of interest in Carroll this winter. The 30-year-old Reynolds has drawn interest from the Twins, Brewers, Angels and Rays, amongst others, after batting .220/.306/.393 with 21 homers for the Indians and Yankees last season.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that several teams remain in talks with free agent infielder Jamey Carroll.

The Rays, Rangers, Indians, Blue Jays, Royals and Padres have all expressed at least some level of interest at some point this offseason. With this strong level of interest, it wouldn't be surprising for the 39-year-old to secure a major league deal. His limited upside offensively leaves him as an uninspiring option in fantasy leagues however.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Jamey Carroll is receiving interest from the Royals, Rangers, Indians, Blue Jays, Rays and Padres.

Ben Nicholson of Sportsnet.ca reported last week that the Red Sox had some interest, as well. Carroll is 39 years old and batted just .211/.267/.251 in 249 plate appearances this past season, but teams will value his versatility. He should be able to land a major league deal.

Ben Nicholson of Sportsnet.ca reports that the Rangers, Indians, Rays, Red Sox and Blue Jays are among the teams with interest in free agent Jamey Carroll.

Carroll is 39 years old and batted just .211/.267/.251 in 249 plate appearances this past season, but it sure sounds like he'll find a guaranteed major league contract. Carroll can play all around the infield. Talks are expected to heat up at next week's Winter Meetings.

Jamey Carroll is drawing "significant interest" on the free agent market, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Carroll, 39, elected to become a free agent in October. There was some thought he might retire after batting .211/.267/.251 last year between the Twins and Royals, but apparently that's not the case. It's hard to believe the interest he's receiving is "significant," but it seems as though he'll at least draw enough interest to stick around for another year.

Jamey Carroll has elected free agency.

Carroll was going to become a free agent after the World Series, but he's now one a few weeks early with the Royals wanting to clear space on their 40-man roster. The veteran utilityman batted .211/.267/.251 for the Twins and Royals this season.

Royals acquired INF Jamey Carroll from the Twins for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

With Miguel Tejada and Chris Getz both sidelined, Carroll should see semi-regular starts at second base. The 39-year-old is batting .230/.283/.262 over 59 games this season.

Jamey Carroll went 0-for-3 Thursday against the Phillies.

The veteran has been starting almost every night for the past month due to injuries, but he's done nothing with those at-bats. Now batting .210/.274/.234 over 124 at-bats, Minnesota would do well to banish Carroll from the leadoff spot permanently.
