Brian Tallet has retired from baseball.
The story was reported by Burt Wilson of Lancaster Newspapers and confirmed by MLB Trade Rumors. Tallet, who was pitching for the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League, will pursue a career in coaching. We assume the veteran will probably receive an invitation to spring training. Tallet suffered through an injury-plagued 2011 campaign and posted an ugly 9.45 ERA and 2.18 WHIP over 19 appearances for the Cardinals and Blue Jays. He has an outside shot at cracking the Opening Day roster.

Tallet and (more importantly) his mustache is back is back in Toronto. The 33-year-old southpaw previously posted a 4.71 ERA with the Blue Jays from 2006-2010. Currently on the disabled list with an intercostal strain, injuries have limited him to just 18 appearances this season.

Tallet was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with an intercostal strain and was later diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. He's hoping to ramp up his throwing program later this week, but there remains no timetable for the lefty's projected return to the majors.
