Dodgers released C Miguel Olivo.

The Dodgers aren't very pleased with Olivo, who took a bite out of teammate Alex Guerrero's ear in a dugout fight Tuesday afternoon at Triple-A Albuquerque. The 35-year-old catcher was batting .368/.407/.605 with four home runs and 20 RBI in 20 games this season at the Triple-A level but may struggle to find a new team. Guerrero needed plastic surgery and could be out for five weeks.

The Albuquerque Isotopes placed Miguel Olivo on the suspended list following Tuesday's incident in which he bit off a portion of Alex Guerrero's ear.

The length of the suspension isn't yet known. We figured Olivo would simply be released by the Dodgers, but it seems that will have to wait. According to Mark Saxon, the Dodgers have told their personnel not to comment on the incident.

Dodgers purchased the contract of C Miguel Olivo from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Tim Federowicz was doing nothing offensively, so the Dodgers will go a different direction at catcher while they wait for A.J. Ellis to recover from knee surgery. Olivo, 35, had a surprising .390/.438/.661 batting line in 64 plate appearances this season for Albuquerque.

The 35-year-old backstop asked the Dodgers for his release earlier in the day on Sunday. He hit .263 (5-for-19) with three RBI in nine Cactus League contests with the Dodgers this spring.

He made the request after finding out he will not make the trip with the team to Australia. The Dodgers haven't officially released Olivo yet, but he'll seek a major league deal when he is cut loose.

Olivo was placed on the restricted list last month after he walked out on the Marlins, and was finally designated for assignment earlier this week. The veteran backstop batted just .203/.250/.392 in 33 games with Miami, but should be able to find a new opportunity elsewhere.

Marlins signed C Miguel Olivo.

Olivo was released earlier Thursday by the Reds after he failed to crack their Opening Day roster, but he landed on his feet quickly as the backup in Miami behind Rob Brantly, at least until Jeff Mathis returns. The Marlins signed him to a 45-day waiver, so he can be released during that time period without being owed the remainder of his $800,000 salary. Olivo batted .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs and 29 RBI in 87 games for the Mariners last season.

The Reds have made Miguel Olivo a $100,000 retention bonus in hopes that he will report to Triple-A Louisville.

Olivo lost out to Devin Mesoraco for the Reds' backup job, but the club is hoping he'll stick around as depth. It's possible he'll be able to find a major league job as a backup somewhere else, though.

Reds signed C Miguel Olivo to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported earlier Friday that the deal was close, and now it's official. Since it's a minor league deal, it doesn't necessarily mean Devin Mesoraco will begin the year at Triple-A, as Olivo could be the one sent down. The 34-year-old backstop batted .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs over 87 games with the Mariners last season.
