Diamondbacks placed OF Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain.
Ross tried to play through the injury, but that didn't go so well. He'll likely be out now for three weeks. Alfredo Marte was called up in a corresponding move. Jul 22 - 4:53 PM

Cody Ross (calf) had a pinch-hit single Monday against the Tigers.

Ross left Saturday's game due to tightness in his left calf, but apparently he's feeling improvement. He should be able to return to the lineup soon.
Jul 22 - 4:24 AM

Cody Ross left Saturday's game versus the Cubs because of tightness in his left calf.

Ross was 1-for-1 with a single to center field before departing in the fifth inning. Gerardo Parra replaced him in right field. Ross is considered day-to-day for now.

The struggling Cody Ross went 0-for-3 in the loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

The Diamondbacks intended for Ross to be a starting outfielder even back when Mark Trumbo and A.J. Pollock were healthy. However, he's played so badly that he's been limited to starting against lefties even in the piecemeal Arizona outfield. It's his skills against left-handers that have kept him in the league, but he's just 7-for-30 with no extra-base hits against them this year. And he's been even worse in his 84 at-bats versus righties.
Jun 11 - 11:03 PM

Cody Ross continued his struggles in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mets, going 0-for-3 with an RBI groundout.

The veteran outfielder has had his share of difficulties at the plate since returning from the disabled list, slashing a paltry .191/.234/.247 in his first 28 games. He shouldn't be started in anything other than NL-only formats until he shows signs of life at the plate.
May 25 - 8:09 PM

Cody Ross went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Dodgers.

Ross took Dan Haren deep in the fourth inning for his first jack of the season. He has been dreadful at the plate after starting the season on the disabled list. Sunday's effort pushes him over the Mendoza line, however, as he is now slashing .203/.244/.270.
May 18 - 7:11 PM

Cody Ross was the lone useless member of Arizona's lineup on Saturday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Diamondbacks.

Everyone else except Gerardo Parra had at least one hit, and Parra managed an RBI and a run scored. Ross shouldn't be starting against right-handers, and he certainly shouldn't be hitting ahead of Martin Prado and Mark Trumbo if he has to start against right-handers. He's 0-for-9 since coming off the DL.
Apr 19 - 11:13 PM

Cody Ross went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in his return from the disabled list on Friday.

The Diamondbacks followed through on their threat and started Ross against a very tough righty in Zack Greinke. The results were pretty much what should have been expected. Ross figures to be a liability against righties for however long it takes the Diamondbacks to realize he's a fourth outfielder.
Apr 19 - 2:33 AM

Diamondbacks activated Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list.

The veteran outfielder is expected to serve as the Diamondbacks everyday left fielder now that he's healthy. He's hitting fifth in manager Kirk Gibson's lineup on Friday.
Apr 18 - 7:05 PM

Cody Ross (hip) is aiming to be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Ross had a mini-setback during his rehab assignment when he felt a little twinge in his side, but he's played the last few days with no issues. As long as he doesn't encounter any more bumps in the road, he'll be back this weekend. Manager Kirk Gibson indicated last week that Ross would be the main left fielder when he returns.
Apr 14 - 7:07 PM

Cody Ross (hip) returned to his rehab assignment Thursday after missing the previous two games with "something in his side that was bothering him," according to Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers.

"Nothing major, just something in his side that was bothering him a little bit, so we gave him an extra day," Towers said. Ross had been slated to rejoin the D'Backs as soon as this weekend, but it's not clear whether this little setback will affect that timetable. Manager Kirk Gibson indicated earlier this week that Ross would be the main left fielder when he returns.
Apr 11 - 8:59 AM

Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Saturday that Cody Ross (hip) is 7-10 days away from being activated from the disabled list.

Ross is 2-for-5 so far on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno, but he's been pulled from both games after five innings as he's eased back into things. He should start regularly against left-handers once activated. "He's been swinging the bat well all spring," Towers said. "The key thing for him is how he feels when he goes out there and has to play on back-to-back days, nine innings in the outfield."
Apr 6 - 8:41 AM

Cody Ross (hip) will begin his rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

He's slated to be in Reno until being re-evaluated on April 10. Ross is working his way back from hip surgery in August, and the team is hoping to have him back sometime in mid-to-late April.
Apr 2 - 7:04 PM

Cody Ross (hip) will go on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Reno to start the season.

Ross has been placed on the disabled list as he continues to work back from August hip surgery. He'll be at Reno until at least April 10, when he'll be re-evaluated. The Diamondbacks are still hoping he'll be ready for a mid-April return to the team.
Mar 29 - 4:22 PM

Cody Ross (hip) played four innings in the outfield Thursday in a minor league game.

Ross also took four at-bats. It's a nice step in the right direction for the 33-year-old outfielder, who is recovering from August hip surgery and aiming to join the Diamondbacks around mid-April. He has already been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
