Cody Ross is starting in right field and batting second for the Athletics Wednesday.
The club wasted no time getting their newest outfielder into the lineup, as Ross will start about 10 hours after the signing became official. In fact, Ross wasn't even at the ballpark when the lineup came out. The veteran has some pop, but he was cut by the Diamondbacks -- not exactly a championship club -- and the A's are notorious for toying with their lineups. It's hard to see Ross making much of an impact in the near term. Apr 8 - 6:20 PM

Athletics signed OF Cody Ross to a one-year contract.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported the news Tuesday night that Ross was set to sign with Oakland once he cleared waivers and now the contract is official. The A's will only be responsible for a prorated portion of the veteran minimum, as The D'Backs still owe Ross $9.5 million. The veteran outfielder should see plenty of playing time against left-handers.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics are expected to sign Cody Ross.

Rosenthal adds that the Rangers also had interest, but it appears Ross is headed to Oakland. The deal won't become official until after he clears waivers Wednesday, as the A's will only be responsible for a prorated portion of the veteran minimum salary at that point. Ross was released over the weekend by the D'Backs, who decided to simply eat the $9.5 million they still owed him. Ross is 34 years old, has been injured often, and hit just .268/.322/.378 over the last two seasons for Arizona, but the A's are really banged up in their outfield right now and Ross could help versus lefties.

Diamondbacks released OF Cody Ross.

After hitting just .252/.306/.322 in 219 plate appearances last season, Ross didn't show enough in spring training to lock down one of the final bench spots on the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster. Arizona will eat his $8.5 million salary for this season and the $1 million buyout on his 2016 option. He should find a new opportunity relatively quickly now that he can be had at the league minimum.

Cody Ross went 2-for-3 and drove home his 15th run of the season in Friday's loss to the Rockies.

Ross doubled home a run in the sixth inning to pull the Diamondbacks to within 6-2, but that would be as close as they would get. It has been another disappointing and injury-raved season for the veteran outfielder, who is hitting .254/.302/.325 in his first 80 games.

Cody Ross went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Ross was one of the few Diamondbacks who could get to Zack Greinke, as he had three of the team's six hits on the afternoon. That included an RBI single in the third inning. Since being activated from the disabled list on September 1, Ross is 5-for-10 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.

Diamondbacks activated OF Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list.

Ross missed five weeks with a calf strain. He was batting just .238/.287/.306 in 66 games before the injury and is doubtful to carry fantasy relevance down the stretch.

Cody Ross (calf) took live batting practice without issue on Friday, and is expected to return to the Diamondbacks on Monday when rosters expand.

Ross was also able to run the bases on Friday. He has been sidelined since mid-July due to a strained calf, and isn't expected to see everyday at-bats even after his return. His days of fantasy relevancy in mixed leagues look to be over.

Cody Ross (calf) had plans to run the bases this past Saturday, but that idea was scrapped.

Ross apparently is still feeling some soreness in his left calf. The Diamondbacks were hoping to get the outfielder back sometime this month, but it now seems likely that they'll have to wait until September.

Diamondbacks placed OF Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain.

Ross tried to play through the injury, but that didn't go so well. He'll likely be out now for three weeks. Alfredo Marte was called up in a corresponding move.

Cody Ross (calf) had a pinch-hit single Monday against the Tigers.

Ross left Saturday's game due to tightness in his left calf, but apparently he's feeling improvement. He should be able to return to the lineup soon.

Cody Ross left Saturday's game versus the Cubs because of tightness in his left calf.

Ross was 1-for-1 with a single to center field before departing in the fifth inning. Gerardo Parra replaced him in right field. Ross is considered day-to-day for now.

The struggling Cody Ross went 0-for-3 in the loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

The Diamondbacks intended for Ross to be a starting outfielder even back when Mark Trumbo and A.J. Pollock were healthy. However, he's played so badly that he's been limited to starting against lefties even in the piecemeal Arizona outfield. It's his skills against left-handers that have kept him in the league, but he's just 7-for-30 with no extra-base hits against them this year. And he's been even worse in his 84 at-bats versus righties.

Cody Ross continued his struggles in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mets, going 0-for-3 with an RBI groundout.

The veteran outfielder has had his share of difficulties at the plate since returning from the disabled list, slashing a paltry .191/.234/.247 in his first 28 games. He shouldn't be started in anything other than NL-only formats until he shows signs of life at the plate.

Cody Ross went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Dodgers.

Ross took Dan Haren deep in the fourth inning for his first jack of the season. He has been dreadful at the plate after starting the season on the disabled list. Sunday's effort pushes him over the Mendoza line, however, as he is now slashing .203/.244/.270.
