Marlins signed C Koyie Hill to a minor league contract.
It's looking like the Marlins will carry Kyle Skipworth as Rob Brantly's backup, so Hill will provide depth at Triple-A. He batted .179/.179/.205 in 11 games last year with the Cubs. Mar 24 - 9:46 AM

Rangers signed C Koyie Hill to a minor league contract.

Hill was given his release by the Nationals earlier this month after hitting just .163 with two homers and a .457 OPS in 33 games with Triple-A Syracuse. The 33-year-old is a .210/.271/.294 hitter over parts of nine seasons in the majors and will presumably serve as catching depth at the Triple-A level.

Nationals released C Koyie Hill.

Hill signed a minor league deal with the Nats in June and was batting .163 with two homers and a .457 OPS in 33 games with Triple-A Syracuse. The 33-year-old backstop will attempt to latch on elsewhere.

Nationals signed C Koyie Hill to a minor league contract.

Hill must be approaching some sort of record. Washington will be the fourth National League club that has employed him this season. The 33-year-old spent spring training with the Cardinals, signed a minor league deal with the Reds in April and was dealt to the Cubs three weeks later. Chicago DFA's Hill last week, he passed through waivers and refused an assignment to Triple-A. That story is far more interesting than the player who hit just .179 with a .385 OPS in 39 plate appearances with the Cubs. Regardless of whether or not he works his way back to the majors this year, he has zero fantasy value.

Koyie Hill declined an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa and elected free agency.

Hill passed through waivers after being designated for assignment on Thursday by the Cubs. He was ineffective in his stay with Chicago, hitting just .179 with a .385 OPS in 39 plate appearances. The 33-year-old spent spring training with the Cardinals, signed a minor league deal with the Reds in April and was dealt to the Cubs three weeks later. In other words, his next organization will be his fourth this season.

Cubs sent C Koyie Hill outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Hill had to pass through waivers after being designated for assignment on Thursday. He was ineffective in his stay with the Cubs, hitting just .179 with a .385 OPS in 39 plate appearances. He'll continue to act as organizational depth at Triple-A.

Cubs designated C Koyie Hill for assignment.

Hill has batted just .179 with a .385 OPS in 39 plate appearances with the Cubs this season. The 33-year-old backstop seems likely to pass through waivers and accept an organizational depth role at Triple-A Iowa.

Cubs acquired C Koyie Hill from the Reds for cash considerations.

He'll likely join the Cubs on Saturday night and provide depth behind Blake Lalli with Geovanny Soto (knee), Steve Clevenger (oblique), and Welington Castillo (knee) all injured.

Reds signed C Koyie Hill; assigned him to Double-A Pensacola.

Hill was released by the Cardinals in March after failing to make the Opening Day roster. He'll likely be used as an emergency catcher with the Reds.

Cardinals released C Koyie Hill.

A defensive catcher, Hill batted .194/.268/.276 over 153 plate appearances with the Cubs last season. It's not unrealistic to think he could reappear with another team as a backup.

Cardinals signed C Koyie Hill to a minor league contract.

Hill was non-tendered by the Cubs in December after batting .194/.268/.276 over 153 plate appearances last season. He'll likely compete with Tony Cruz for the backup catcher job during spring training.

Cubs non-tendered C Koyie Hill.

Not a surprise. Hill, 32, batted .194/.268/.276 over 153 plate appearances this past season. Welington Castillo and Steve Clevenger will likely compete during spring training for the Cubs' backup catcher job.

Koyie Hill went 3-for-3 with three runs scored in Chicago's win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

Hill's first three-hit game of 2011 was easily his best of the season. Even in deeper NL-only leagues, however, he's not much of a fantasy option while Geovany Soto is on the disabled list.

Cubs and C Koyie Hill avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $850,000 contract.

Hill, who turns 32 in March, earned $700,000 in his first time though the arbitration process last winter. He batted .214/.254/.298 with one home run and 17 RBI in 231 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, while throwing out just 18 percent (8-for-45) of would-be basestealers. He's expected to be the primary backup to Geovany Soto again in 2011.

Koyie Hill struck out all four times he was up in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.

We'd say it's about time for the Cubs to go to a new backup catcher, but Chris Robinson has had a dreadful year and the team probably doesn't want to turn to 23-year-old Welington Castillo as a backup just yet. Hill, though, needs to do something in a hurry if he expects to have a job in the majors next year. He's hitting just .204/.242/.269 in 93 at-bats.
