Mets signed INF Anderson Machado, RHP Juan Padilla, RHP Joselo Diaz, RHP Andy Cavazos, LHP Ryan Cullen, 3B Fernando Tatis, C Robinson Cancel and C Salomon Manriquez to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
We're very excited about the possibility of an Anderson Machado-Anderson Hernandez double play combination at Triple-A New Orleans. Machado remains a fine defender, but his inability to hit for average is probably going to keep him from getting a chance to make it as a utilityman. Tatis, who made it back to the majors with the Orioles in 2006, spent all of last season in New Orleans and hit .276/.359/.485. Diaz is back in the U.S. after finishing with a 4.59 ERA in 66 2/3 innings last year for the Yokohama BayStars. Mon, Jan 7, 2008 01:14:00 PM

Reds reassigned INF Anderson Machado, RHP Josh Hall, INF Aaron Herr and INF Derek Wathan to minor league camp.

If Machado had it to do over again, he probably wouldn't have re-signed with the Reds back in November. All of the additions to the team's infield make it unlikely that he'll see time in the majors with the club.

Reds signed infielder Anderson Machado to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Machado is returning to the Reds, who lost him on waivers to the Rockies in July. He still isn't hitting at all in Venezuela (.143/.236/.163 in 49 AB), and there's little chance of him winning a roster spot next spring.

After going 0-for-5 yesterday, Anderson Machado is batting just .128 in the VWL.

He's 5-for-39 with one double and a 13/5 K/BB ratio. Machado, who last season was taken off the Reds' 40-man roster, claimed by the Rockies and later designated for assignment again, is currently a minor league free agent.

Rockies sent infielder Anderson Machado outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Machado will likely stay with Colorado Springs for the duration of the Triple-A season. If he does well, the Rockies will look to bring him back and have him compete for a reserve role next spring.

Rockies designated shortstop Anderson Machado for assignment.

After just 12 at-bats. Machado was never a fit for the Rockies, as they want singles and he's not a singles hitter. They're most likely right that he needs more time in the minors as he works his way back from a knee injury, and it wouldn't be any big deal if they lost him. Still, his defense alone gives him more value than Desi Relaford. Luis Gonzalez should resume getting more time at shortstop with Machado gone.

Anderson Machado will bat exclusively from the left side the rest of the year.

''We've put his right-handed batting helmet back in storage,'' manager Clint Hurdle said. ''He was never successful from the right side.'' Maybe the Rockies could just go ahead and put Desi Relaford into storage, too.

Anderson Machado made his debut for the Rockies today and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout.

The Rockies head home tomorrow for a seven game homestand, so Machado may be worth using in NL-only leagues next week even if he doesn't play quite everyday. He'll be worth claiming if it looks like he's the primary shortstop.

Anderson Machado has been cleared to play after a physical and will be in uniform for Saturday's game.

The Rockies plan to recall Brian Sweeney to replace Jason Jennings, so they'll need to make another roster move to open up a spot for Machado.

Andy Machado is expected to be activated by the Rockies today.

The Reds have to be hoping he doesn't make a big impact with Denver right away.

Rockies claimed infielder Anderson Machado off waivers from the Reds.

The Reds should have just sent down Ray Olmedo. A very good defensive infielder with on-base skills, Machado is the better bet of the two for the future. The Rockies might give him an extended look at shortstop at some point. NL-only leaguers will want to keep an eye on the situation.

Reds activated infielder Anderson Machado from the 15-day disabled list.

Machado probably won't have any fantasy value while being used as a reserve at the middle-infield positions. The Reds also plan on trying him in the outfield.

Anderson Machado, whose rehab assignment in Triple-A has expired, will be activated from the disabled list tomorrow.

Either Edwin Encarnacion or Ray Olmedo will be sent down to make room for Machado. The infielder that stays will likely only last until Ryan Freel is activated. Machado probably won't be worth owning in NL-only leagues unless someone ahead of him gets hurt.

Time is almost up for Andy Machado (knee), and the Reds either need to activate him by July 5 or place him on waivers.

He was hitting just.075 going into yesterday's game, so even with an opening created by the loss of William Bergolla, the Reds are likely to call up Ray Olmedo instead.

Andy Machado (knee) is still not hitting well in Louisville and his time is running out.

He's 12 days into his rehab assignment (which has a 20-day limit), and he's just 1-for-28 (.036). Once the 20 days are up the Reds will be forced to make a move because Machado is out of options.
