Vinnie Chulk has elected free agency.
The 33-year-old pitched well at Triple-A this year but posted a 10.00 ERA in seven appearances with the Brewers. Needless to say, he won't exactly be a hot commodity this winter. Thu, Oct 11, 2012 06:35:00 PM

Brewers designated RHP Vinnie Chulk for assignment.

Chulk made seven relief appearances with the Brewers, but struggled with command issues and seems likely to go through waivers unclaimed. The Brewers purchased the contract of Juan Perez in a corresponding move.

Brewers purchased the contract of RHP Vinnie Chulk from Triple-A Nashville.

The Brewers moved Chris Narveson (shoulder surgery) to the 60-day disabled list in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Chulk, 33, owns a 4.33 ERA over 252 appearances in the majors and will function in a middle relief role.

The Brewers are expected to purchase the contract of right-hander Vinnie Chulk from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday to replace Mike McClendon in the bullpen.

The Brewers will move Chris Narveson (shoulder surgery) to the 60-day disabled list in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Chulk, 33, owns a 4.33 ERA over 252 appearances in the majors and will function in a middle relief role.

Vinnie Chulk can opt out of his contract with the A's on Friday if not promoted to the majors.

Chulk, 32, is sporting a cool 2.75 ERA and 30/13 K/BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings this season at Triple-A Sacramento and seems likely to seek a big league gig elsewhere if Oakland does not offer him one. The right-handed reliever hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2009, when he was with the Indians.

A's signed RHP Vinnie Chulk to a minor league contract.

Chulk posted a 4.96 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 rate at Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pirates organization in 2010 before being sold to the Hiroshima Toyo Carps in Japan at midseason. He didn't fare well overseas, posting a 5.79 ERA over 18 2/3 innings. Chulk has a 4.33 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 276 1/3 career major league innings and will compete for a bullpen spot in spring training.

The Pirates have sold the rights to right-hander Vinnie Chulk to the Hiroshima Toyo Carps in Japan.

Pirates pitcher Hayden Penn is also headed overseas. Chulk, 31, had a 4.33 ERA over 252 major league innings and should do a little better in Japan. He'll also get paid significantly more.

Vinnie Chulk is working out a deal with a Japanese team.

He joins Hayden Penn, who is also a Pirates' farmhand that's reportedly all set to head to Japan. The 31-year-old Chulk holds a career 4.33 ERA over 252 major league relief appearances. You can't blame the guy for taking what's likely to be a much bigger paycheck overseas.

Pirates signed RHP Vinnie Chulk to a minor league contract.

Chulk lasted just 12 innings with the Indians in 2009, posting a 4/10 K/BB ratio and 1.67 WHIP. He's simply organizational bullpen depth.

Indians designated RHP Vinnie Chulk for assignment.

The Indians needed his roster spot for Jeremy Sowers, who will join the big league rotation on Thursday. Chulk was 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA, but issued 10 walks in just 12 innings. The Indians have 10 days to trade, release, or put him on waivers.

Vinnie Chulk was perfect for two innings Monday in relief against the Mariners.

Chulk, Matt Herges and Zach Jackson (assuming he doesn't get a rotation spot) appear to be the top candidates to claim the one opening in Cleveland's pen. Chulk has helped his chances a great deal by posting a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings this spring.

Indians signed RHP Vinnie Chulk to a minor league deal and invited him to spring training.

Chulk spent the second half of the 2008 season in Triple-A Fresno after the Giants designated him for assignment. His stuff hasn't been the same after battling shoulder problems, but he could resurface as a middle reliever down the road.

Giants designate RHP Vinnie Chulk for assignment.

Probably a fortunate break for Chulk, who was being used as nothing more than a mop-up man of late. His stuff hasn't been quite the same since he missed the end of last year with Buerger's Disease, though it actually may have more to do with the shoulder problems he had at the beginning of this year. He'll likely eventually reemerge as a useful middle man.
