Red Sox sent RHP Kyle Snyder outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
That Snyder cleared waivers is a surprise. He's not a key pitcher on a contender, but he's versatile and can eat innings. Perhaps it helped that he's making $835,000 this season and not the minimum. He's accepting the assignment to Pawtucket, so he'll almost surely rejoin the Red Sox later this season. Mon, Apr 14, 2008 03:50:00 PM

The Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox are "looking to trade" Kyle Snyder and the Tigers, Rays and Phillies have expressed interest.

Snyder was designated for assignment Sunday, giving the team 10 days to trade him or risk losing him on waivers.

Red Sox designated RHP Kyle Snyder for assignment.

Snyder gave up four runs over 1 2/3 innings in two appearances this season. The Red Sox will try to trade him, and he hopes to land with a team that would use him as a starting pitcher.

Kyle Snyder said after Saturday's game that he's been designated for assignment.

All of the speculation in the Boston newspapers was that David Aardsma, Bryan Corey and maybe even Javier Lopez were the candidates to go to make room for Josh Beckett, but the Red Sox made the right move after all. Snyder's ability to serve as a long man makes him a decent 12th pitcher, but the Red Sox already have a multi-inning guy in Julian Tavarez. They're better off keeping Corey and Aardsma, though Aardsma is still likely to go when Mike Timlin comes back.

Kyle Snyder gave up the lead for Boston on Tuesday after surrendering a two-run homer to the second batter he faced against the A’s.

The Red Sox could not have had a very good offseason when they’re calling on Snyder to protect a one-run lead in the sixth inning on Opening Day. Manny Delcarmen, Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon have all had two-inning outings this spring, yet Red Sox manager Terry Francona wasn’t willing to try to get four innings from the trio. Barring that, Bryan Corey or Javier Lopez should have been the choice to pitch. Snyder has now given up 19 homers in 114 innings in his Red Sox career. He hardly belongs in the majors.

Red Sox agreed to terms with RHP Kyle Snyder on a one-year, $835,000 contract.

Snyder, who made $535,000 last year, asked for $1,025,000, while the team offered $725,000. Kevin Youkilis is now Boston's only remaining arbitration-eligible player.

Kyle Snyder, not Julian Tavarez or Bryan Corey, will replace Tim Wakefield on Boston's World Series roster.

Bizarre. Snyder had a 6.32 ERA over the final two months and pitched just four times in September. Corey made nine appearances in September and had a 1.93 ERA. If they were going to bypass Tavarez, Corey should have been the choice. Why not carry two of the three and send Eric Gagne home where he belongs?

The Red Sox are drawing interest from the Marlins and Nationals in Kyle Snyder and the Marlins and Astros in David Murphy.

It appears that the Red Sox are leaning towards keeping Snyder, but they would part with him in part of a deal for a closer. Murphy is almost certainly available for the right amount of relief help. The Astros, though, won't be giving up Chad Qualls in return for a bench player. The Marlins at least would have need of Murphy as a regular. Murphy and Snyder for Taylor Tankersley is a deal the Red Sox would likely jump at.

In what will likely be his final start of the spring, Kyle Snyder tossed three scoreless innings Tuesday versus the Blue Jays.

Snyder has allowed two runs and struck out seven over 7 1/3 innings in his three starts. The Red Sox are planning to use Snyder as a reliever for the rest of the spring. Because he's out of options, he could well make the team over Manny Delcarmen and Craig Hansen.

Red Sox agreed to terms with RHP Kyle Snyder on a one-year, $535,000 contract.

Snyder doesn't have any options left, and there wouldn't seem to be room for him on Boston's roster unless someone gets hurt this spring. Still, the Red Sox decided to keep him rather than non-tender him last month. That he'll be making more than the minimum would seem to increase the chances that he'll clear waivers if the team wants to send him down at the end of the spring.

Kyle Snyder was horrible on Wednesday, unable to get out of the third inning.

After Snyder looked so good on Friday, it was too much to believe he'd do it again. And the thought Julian Tavarez, Kason Gabbard and Snyder holding the powerful White Sox offense in check three nights in a row was just too big a stretch. In 2 1/3 innings, Snyder, 4-4, was torched for seven hits, five runs and a walk.

Kyle Snyder struck out a career-high eight batters en route to picking up his fourth win of the season after seven shutout innings against the Blue Jays tonight.

Snyder also walked just two and gave up only a pair of hits, so it was truly an unexpected and legitimately strong performance. Even after the strong outing, Snyder isn't to be used against the White Sox next week.

The Red Sox will start Kyle Snyder against the Angels on Tuesday.

It had looked like Kason Gabbard would come up to make the start after Snyder was needed in relief on both Friday and Saturday, but the Red Sox are going to see what Snyder can give them. If the past is any indication, he's throw four solid innings and then fail to make it out of the fifth.

The Red Sox said they play to keep Kyle Snyder in the bullpen, with Jason Johnson making another start on Sunday.

It looks like the right strategy. Snyder has been great hit first time through a lineup, but he struggles after that. Maybe he'll provide quality innings in middle relief.

After relieving an ineffective David Wells, Kyle Snyder struck out six in 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for a win against the Indians on Monday night.

Snyder was supposed to start on Tuesday. Now it looks like Jason Johnson will be called up to fill in. If Johnson pitches well, perhaps Snyder will be left in middle relief. Since he's been falling apart in the fifth innings of his starts, it looks like the best role for him. He was outstanding tonight, giving up just one hit and walking none.
