Date:

Gerald Laird (back) will be sidelined at least a few more days.

Laird left Thursday's game with a lower back strain and his back remains an issue. There's no reason for the Braves to push him at this point, as he has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day.
Mar 2 - 10:44 AM

Gerald Laird left Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers with a lower back strain.

The Braves are calling him "day-to-day." Laird could need a week or so of rest, but he should have no problem catching up before the start of the 2014 regular season.

Braves activated C Gerald Laird from the 15-day disabled list.

Laird missed the last couple weeks while recovering from a procedure to remove a kidney stone. He'll return to being Brian McCann's backup.

Gerald Laird (kidney stone) will come off the disabled list on Sunday.

Laird underwent a procedure to remove a kidney stone on July 31. He's been rehabbing with Triple-A Gwinnett in recent days. Todd Cunningham will be demoted to Triple-A to make room for Laird on the 25-man roster.

Gerald Laird (kidney stone) will catch and bat second Friday in a rehab game with Triple-A Gwinnett.

Laird underwent a procedure last week to remove a kidney stone, but he's feeling back to normal. If all goes well, he could be activated from the DL as soon as Saturday.

Gerald Laird (kidney stone) could be activated from the disabled list as early as Saturday.

Laird on Wednesday will either take batting practice or possibly begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Rome. He'll play for Triple-A Gwinnett Friday before likely returning Saturday.

Braves placed C Gerald Laird on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 26, with a kidney stone.

Laird underwent a procedure Wednesday to remove his kidney stone but still needs a few more days to recover. He should be a candidate to rejoin the team next week when first eligible.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Gerald Laird (kidney stone) needs a few more days to recover.

Laird waited three days to pass the stone before Wednesday's procedure to remove it. He will not travel with the team to Philadelphia. With Brian McCann and Evan Gattis behind the dish, Atlanta has the luxury of waiting for Laird to recover without placing him on the disabled list.

Gerald Laird underwent a procedure Wednesday to remove his kidney stone.

Laird will likely need to miss a few days, but he will not require a trip to the disabled list. The Braves should be fine with Brian McCann and Evan Gattis behind the dish.

Laird had also taken a beating behind the plate throughout the game. He'll surely undergo X-rays before the Braves update his status.

Gerald Laird and Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez were ejected in the third inning of Friday's game against the Phillies after arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Angel Hernandez.

Laird got heated after being called out on a questionable third strike to end the top half of the third inning, and Gonzalez got tossed for sticking up for his catcher after the fact. Brian McCann replaced Laird in the Braves' lineup.

Gerald Laird went 1-for-3 in a rare start against the Mets on Sunday.

He has just four hits this month. Laird had four multi-hit games in April, but Atlanta understandably has no interest trotting him out with Evan Gattis and Brian McCann also on the roster. Outside of ocean-deep NL-only leagues, Laird (.267/.340/.311 over 53 plate appearances) can be ignored in fantasy.

Gerald Laird (calf) is in the Braves' lineup Saturday.

Laird hasn't played the last week while dealing with a calf injury. The 33-year-old will open the season as the Braves' starting catcher with Brian McCann (shoulder) sidelined, but is doubtful to carry any fantasy value.
