Phillies sent LHP Adam Loewen outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Loewen was actually a position player in 2011, but transitioned over to pitcher. While he posted some nice minor league numbers, he struggled in his major league duty this season, pitching to a 6.98 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 22/17 K/BB ratio across 19 1/3 innings. Oct 7 - 4:38 PM

Phillies purchased the contract of LHP Adam Loewen from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Loewen last appeared in the majors in 2011 as a position player but has returned to the mound and had a really nice year for Lehigh Valley, holding a 2.15 ERA and 60/32 K/BB ratio over 46 innings. The Phillies will utilize him in middle relief.

The Phillies will call up left-hander Adam Loewen from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.

Loewen last appeared in the majors in 2011 as a position player with the Blue Jays, but he has since moved back to the mound. Now 31 years old, he has posted a 2.15 ERA and 60/32 K/BB ratio over 46 relief innings this season in Triple-A. It's a cool story.
Aug 6 - 5:05 PM

Adam Loewen has returned to pitching.

Loewen's first six years as a professional were as a pitcher, but he converted to an outfielder after suffering a pair of stress fractures in his pitching elbow. He made it up to the majors in 2011 as an outfielder but has decided his best chance of getting back there is as a pitcher. Now 30, Loewen holds a 3.19 ERA and 67/46 K/BB ratio over 96 innings between High- and Double-A this season in the Phillies' organization. His fastball started out at 84-85 mph when he first returned to the mound, but it now tops out at 92 mph. The southpaw would seem to have a decent chance of making it back to the majors if he can stay healthy.

Phillies signed OF Adam Loewen to a minor league contract.

Loewen converted from pitcher to outfielder and showed some promise last year in the Blue Jays' minor league system. He was the No. 4 overall pick in 2002.

Blue Jays signed OF Adam Loewen to a minor league contract.

It's not yet clear whether the deal includes an invitation to spring training. Loewen, a pitcher-turned-outfielder, hit just .231/.333/.389 at two different minor league levels for the Mets in 2012. He'll probably wind up serving as organizational depth for the Blue Jays.

Adam Loewen has been activated from the minor league disabled list.

He's been temporarily assigned to Single-A St. Lucie to get re-acclimated to live action. After that, Loewen will likely be moved back to Triple-A Buffalo where he'll serve as organizational outfield depth for the Mets.

Mets reassigned OF Adam Loewen, C Lucas May, OF Matt den Dekker and C Rob Johnson to minor league camp.

No surprises here. Loewen, a pitcher-turned-outfielder, went 11-for-43 in Grapefruit League play.

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News was told by a team source that there's a "99.9 percent" chance that Adam Loewen will soon be sent to minor league camp.

In turn, Mike Baxter is now expected to make the Opening Day roster. Loewen is batting .268 (11-for-41) with a homer and six walks this spring, so he hasn't played all that badly, but he has also struck out 20 times.

Adam Loewen hit his first spring homer Thursday in the loss to the Marlins.

Loewen's homer off Chad Gaudin was wind-aided, but he actually had another blast that was held up by the wind and would have been a second homer otherwise. He's 3-for-8 this spring, and there's a pretty good chance he'll make the Mets if Scott Hairston lands on the disabled list.
Thu, Mar 8, 2012 04:42:00 PM

Adam Rubin of writes that both Adam Loewen and Vinny Rottino could make the Opening Day roster if Scott Hairston (oblique) begins the season on the disabled list.

Loewen would function as a left-handed bat off the bench and backup center fielder while Rottino would replace Hairston as a righty bench bat. The Mets would prefer prospect outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to play every day, so he's likely headed to the minors with the Mets' starting outfield already locked in. It's also possible that the Mets could see which players are cut from other teams as spring training moves along.

Mets signed OF Adam Loewen to a minor league contract.

Lowen, a converted pitcher, hit 17 homers alongside a .306/.377/.508 batting line this year at Triple-A Las Vegas. But he struggled in 32 at-bats in the majors after gaining a September promotion and is unlikely to have a big impact for the Metropolitans in 2012.

Blue Jays sent OF Adam Loewen outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Loewen, a converted pitcher, batted .188 with one homer and 13 strikeouts over 32 at-bats with the Blue Jays as a September call-up. He made for a nice story, but didn't prove that he is anything beyond a Quad-A player.

Adam Loewen drew the second of back-to-back bases loaded walks in the top of the ninth as the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday.

Now there's a way to end the season. Mark Teahen had the first walk off Chris Sale, tying the game. Sale remained in afterwards and issued the walk to Loewen, giving him the loss as well as the blown save. It was Loewen's lone plate appearance of the game. He went 6-for-32 with a homer and a 13/3 K/BB ratio in his September audition. The Jays will have a decision to make on whether to keep him on the 40-man roster this winter. The fact that he's out of options next spring will work against him.

Getting the start in center, Adam Loewen went 2-for-4 with two RBI against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, he also made two bad outs on the basepaths, once getting picked off and another when he was too aggressive trying to take third. He also committed an error in center. What he did with the bat today, he largely gave right back.
