Terrmel Sledge is taking a two-year, $2.85 million contract to play in Japan with the Nippon Ham Fighters.

That's a lot better than he would have done in the U.S. Sledge was kept on the Padres' 40-man roster after hitting .210/.310/.360 in 200 at-bats last season, but he didn't seem to be in their plans for 2008.

Terrmel Sledge hit a pinch-hit, solo homer in the top of the ninth to provide the Padres with the margin of victory in a 4-3 win over Philly Saturday.

All four Padres runs came on solo blasts, with Mike Cameron, Milton Bradley and Kevin Kouzmanoff also smashing long balls. Sledge is hitting just .221 but has 21 runs, the most he's scored since his rookie season with the Expos in 2004.

Padres recalled OF Terrmel Sledge from Triple-A Portland.

Sledge was demoted to Triple-A on July 25, but is now somewhat superfluous with Rob Mackowiak around. He batted .383 with a homer in five games during his latest stint at Portland, but doesn't figure to have much fantasy value unless Milton Bradley's various injuries keep him sidelined for extended time.

Padres optioned outfielder Terrmel Sledge to Triple-A Portland.

Sledge hadn't made a start since coming off the DL a week ago and was 0-for-5 as a pinch-hitter. With Jose Cruz Jr. serving as the top backup at all three outfield spots, there just wasn't going to be much point to carrying Sledge. He'll be back if something opens up.

Padres activated outfielder Terrmel Sledge from the 15-day disabled list.

Sledge is back from a sprained right thumb. He'll be used primarily off the bench now that the Padres have Milton Bradley as their starting left fielder.

Terrmel Sledge (thumb) is 4-for-10 with a double and two RBI in two rehab games with Triple-A Portland.

Sledge will likely remain in Portland for another couple weeks.

Terrmel Sledge (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Portland on Saturday.

The Padres currently don't have much use for Sledge on the major league, so his stay in Portland could be lengthy.

Padres placed outfielder Terrmel Sledge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 28, with a sprained right thumb.

Sledge hadn't even been used off the bench since getting hurt 10 days ago, so he'll be eligible to return right after the break.

Terrmel Sledge (sprained thumb) is doubtful for this weekend's series.

Even if healthy Sledge would see even less playing time with the addition of Milton Bradley. We wouldn't be surprised if Sledge winds up on the disabled list in the next day or so.

Terrmel Sledge left Wednesday's game in the eighth inning with an apparent right hand injury.

Hiram Bocachica replaced him in the outfield against the Giants.

Terrmel Sledge went 3-for-4 and homered off Brandon Webb in his first start in a week Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Sledge had a terrific spring and got off to a quick start this month, but with Jose Cruz Jr. producing, he found himself benched because of an 0-for-14 slump. Sledge is the Padres' best option as a left fielder against right-handers. Tonight's performance should get him into the lineup a few more times.

Terrmel Sledge, in an 0-for-16 slump, was held out of the starting lineup against a right-hander on Sunday.

He also sat versus a righty on Thursday and hasn't started a game since Wednesday. It's an overreaction from manager Bud Black, considering that Sledge had a terrific spring and was boasting an OPS over 1000 before his slump. He should be playing over Jose Cruz Jr. against righties.

Terrmel Sledge hit his sixth homer this month in the Padres' 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The probable left field platoon of Sledge and Jose Cruz Jr. has been responsible for 10 homers in 86 at-bats this spring. Of course, neither will do so well once the setting changes from Arizona to San Diego, but the Padres sure have to be happy they didn't trade Scott Linebrink for Aaron Rowand.

Terrmel Sledge hit his fifth homer of the spring Tuesday in the Padres' 8-7 win over the Angels.

It seems like the Padres have decided against hitting Sledge first, and he could find himself as low as seventh in the order despite his success this spring. He'll have more chances to drive in runs as a result, but he'd still have more fantasy value higher in the order.
