Angels optioned 1B Robb Quinlan to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Quinlan was really struggling and the Angels are looking for offense in their struggle to stay in the race for the AL West. His demotion might mean regular playing time for Paul McAnulty, but neither had enough power to really register in mixed leagues.

Angels optioned 1B Robb Quinlan to Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Angels are still seeking a replacement at first base for Kendry Morales, who is out for the season due to ankle surgery. Mike Napoli appears to be their best bet, with Bobby Wilson manning catcher. Quinlan has batted a hideous .129/.182/.194 in 31 at-bats this season on the major league level.

Robb Quinlan went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles on Sunday.

A fine performance, but the fact that Quinlan was starting at first base just helps reinforce how desperate the Halos are for help at the position in the absence of Kendry Morales. Recently recalled from the minors, Quinlan entered the game without a hit in 14 major-league at-bats this year and has posted a sub-700 OPS in each of his past three seasons.

Angels recalled OF Robb Quinlan.

Quinlan was the rumored choice to get the first batch of starts at first base in Kendry Morales' stead. He's not exactly an overwhelming option; he's hitting just .253/.323/.322 in the hitter-friendly PCL. The Angels will almost certainly look elsewhere for a long-term option, but their search starts here.

The problem is that he isn't particularly useful on defense or with the bat, both significant reasons why he was left unsigned.

Lyle Spencer of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers are interested in utility man Robb Quinlan as a fourth outfielder.

Quinlan, 32, has also received interest from the Rockies. The veteran batted just .243/.275/.339 with two homers and 14 RBI in 115 at-bats with the Angels last season, but offers some versatility in the field, even though defensive metrics don't rate him highly. As it stands, Xavier Paul and Jason Repko figure to compete for the fourth outfielder gig in Los Angeles. They'd probably be better off staying in-house.
