Phillies released RHP Chad Gaudin.
Gaudin signed a minor league contract with the Phillies in late January, but he failed his physical this week in camp and is now back on the open market. The 30-year-old right-hander posted a cool 3.06 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 97 innings last season for the Giants and should land another opportunity soon. Unless, of course, there's something seriously wrong with his throwing arm. Feb 13 - 8:43 AM

Gaudin signed a minor league deal with the Phillies on Tuesday. The 30-year-old had a surprisingly 3.06 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 97 innings with the Giants last season and should have a legitimate chance to make the Opening Day roster as a swingman.

Phillies signed RHP Chad Gaudin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Gaudin, 30, had a 3.06 ERA and 88/40 K/BB ratio in 97 innings last season with the Giants. With his ability to start or relieve, he could win a job in a swingman role.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that about six teams are in the mix to sign Chad Gaudin.

Cotillo adds that Gaudin is expected to make a decision soon. The 30-year-old posted a 3.06 ERA and 88/40 K/BB ratio in 97 innings with the Giants last season and could have value as a starter or a reliever.
Jan 20 - 5:22 PM

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros are one of six teams with interest in free agent right-hander Chad Gaudin.

Gaudin is surely looking for a place to start, but Drellich speculates that he could fit as a second experienced reliever along with Chad Qualls. The 30-year-old posted a 3.06 ERA and 88/40 K/BB ratio in 97 innings with the Giants this past season as a starter and reliever.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that it "seems unlikely" the Giants will re-sign Chad Gaudin.

Gaudin pitched surprisingly well for the Giants in 2013, posting a 3.06 ERA with nearly a strikeout per inning across 30 appearances (12 starts). The veteran righty should get a guaranteed deal somewhere but might have to go back to the bullpen.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) is unlikely to return to the Giants this season.

The veteran right-hander had hoped to rejoin the Giants bullpen for the final week of the regular season to prove his health before heading into free agency, but has yet to gain clearance to return and is quickly running out of time to do so.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) could return to the Giants on Saturday.

The 30-year-old right-hander logged around 30 pitches in a simulated game on Friday without any issues. Provided he feels good on Saturday, he's likely to be activated from the disabled list and join the Giants bullpen. Heading into free agency this Winter, it would be beneficial for Gaudin to prove his health before the end of the 2013 season.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) will throw another simulated game Friday.

He had been slated to throw it Thursday. If it goes well, Gaudin will be activated from the disabled list in a few days. The Giants haven't decided whether he'll return as a starter or reliever.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) threw a simulated game Monday.

Gaudin began long-tossing last Thursday and has now progressed to throw from a mound. The Giants haven't decided whether he'll return as a starter or reliever, but he should be ready for activation before long.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) played long-toss from 90 feet Thursday.

Gaudin has been sidelined for over two weeks due to carpal tunnel syndrome, but he's just now resumed throwing. There's no timetable for his return, but obviously he's not terribly close. Yusmeiro Petit will continue to hold down a rotation spot until Gaudin is ready.

Giants placed RHP Chad Gaudin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 17, with carpal tunnel syndrome.

It's not clear at this point how long the ailment will sideline Gaudin. Barry Zito will re-enter the rotation in the meantime and starts on Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Chad Gaudin was knocked around in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday, allowing eight runs on 11 hits over his four-plus innings.

Gaudin struck out five while issuing four free passes in the game. He was staked to a 7-0 lead after two innings, but was unable to keep the Marlins offense at bay as they struck for four in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth before chasing Gaudin. Even with this atrocity, he still owns a stellar 3.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 88/40 K/BB ratio through 97 innings on the season. He’ll try to put this one behind him when he takes on the Red Sox at home on Wednesday.

Chad Gaudin allowed one (unearned) run over five innings Saturday in the Giants' 3-2 win over the Orioles.

Gaudin was left with a no-decision because the Giants didn't take the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning. The right-hander was yet again superb, yielding only two hits while striking out six. He's been a great story so far and should be able to keep it rolling next week against the Marlins in Miami.
