Mets purchased the contract of LHP Jon Switzer from Triple-A Buffalo.

Switzer will be the second lefty out of the pen. Used exclusively that way, he can help the Mets, and your bullpen ERA. The Mets need a second lefty, so he could stick around at Ken Takahashi's expense, since Takahashi is a lefty who can't get lefties out.

Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News is reporting that the Mets will call up Jon Switzer to take John Maine's spot on the roster.

This means Fernando Nieve will likely start Saturday against the Yankees. Switzer is a second lefty the Mets sorely needed.

Red Sox signed LHP Jon Switzer and LHP Michael Tejera to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.

Switzer has a 6.11 ERA in 66 1/3 innings as a major leaguer, but left-handers have hit just .217 off him, suggesting that he still might have a future out of the pen. Tejera is less likely to see time with the Red Sox next season. He'll be one of the senior members of the rotation at Pawtucket.

Rays designated LHP Jon Switzer for assignment.

Switzer gave up 17 runs in 19 innings for the Rays last season, but he was fairly effective against lefties. Perhaps that will be enough to get him claimed. At 28, he has a few years left to make it as a specialst.

Devil Rays placed LHP Jon Switzer on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.

The southpaw reliever went 2-2 with a 4.54 ERA out of the Tampa Bay bullpen last season. The Rays have no other left-handed relievers in camp, so it looks like they'll be without a southpaw in the bullpen at the beginning of the year.

Switzer is a left-hander, so as long as there are no breaks in the wrist, he shouldn't miss much time.
