Reds signed INF Mike Hessman to a minor league contract.
Hessman, who turns 35 in March, batted .231/.301/.512 with 35 home runs and an .813 OPS in 123 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. He'll likely serve as organizational depth in 2013. Wed, Nov 14, 2012 02:38:00 PM

Mike Hessman has elected free agency.

Hessman once again mashed minor league pitching, smashing 35 homers and driving home 78 runs for Triple-A Oklahoma City, but did so while hitting .231/.301/.512. The 34-year-old slugger will once again seek a new opportunity.

Astros signed INF Mike Hessman to a minor league contract.

The deal does not include an invite to big-league camp. Hessman spent last season with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan's Pacific League. The 33-year-old has regularly mashed minor league pitching, but has a lousy .188/.272/.422 batting line over 250 plate appearances in the majors. He'll serve as organizational depth this season.

Mike Hessman has agreed to a contract with the Orix Buffaloes of the Japanese Pacific League.

Hessman has bashed Triple-A pitching mercilessly the last few years but has batted only .188/.272/.422 with 14 homers over 223 major league at-bats across five seasons. We wouldn't be surprised if the 32-year-old is a slugger in Japan.

Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker passes along a report from Sports Hochi which says that the Orix Buffaloes have interest in Mike Hessman.

Hessman elected to become a free agent after spending this past season in the Mets organization. The 32-year-old mashed again at the Triple-A level, but batted just .127 with one home run and 23 strikeouts in 55 at-bats with the big club. He looks like your prototypical Quad-A bat, so Japan could be an interesting alternative for him.

Mike Hessman has elected to become a free agent.

Hessman made his way to the major leagues this year after posting a solid .279/.356/.582 batting line and 18 home runs at Triple-A. He turns 33 before the start of next season but may draw some interest.

Mets purchased the contract of INF Mike Hessman from Triple-A Buffalo.

Hessman rattled off a .279/.356/.582 batting line with the Bisons and sits among the league leaders with 18 homers and a 924 OPS. The 32-year-old infielder has put up some gaudy numbers in the minors, but he has a .208/.276/.476 batting line over 168 major league at-bats and hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008. He fits the profile of your classic Quad-A bat.

Mets signed infielder Mike Hessman to a minor league contract.

Hessman, 31, has a .208/.276/.476 batting line in 185 plate appearances on the major league level. He's spent most of his time in the minors and will provide nothing more than organizational depth for the Mets.

Tigers placed infielder Mike Hessman on waivers.

Hessman has plenty of power, but since he hit just .204/.250/.347 this spring, there's a good chance he'll clear waivers.

Mike Hessman went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Sunday against the Marlins.

Hessman wasn't under serious consideration for a spot on Detroit's bench, but another team might have wanted him if he turned in a big spring. Unfortunately, he's hitting .195 with two homers and 13 strikeouts in 41 at-bats. It looks like he'll probably compete for another Triple-A home run crown this year.

Tigers purchased the contract of infielder Mike Hessman from Triple-A Toledo.

The 30-year-old Hessman hit .271/.374/.602 with 34 homers for Toledo, but he did most of his damage in the first half and he showed little for Team USA during the Olympics. The Tigers shouldn't give him at-bats at the expense of Jeff Larish or Matt Joyce.

Mike Hessman homered in both games for Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, giving him minor league-leading 16 on the season.

Hessman is batting .314/.382/.759 in 137 at-bats for Toledo. We'd like to see what Jeff Larish could do as the Tigers' designated hitter, but if the team does have an opening in the near future, it would probably go to Hessman. The veteran hit .235 with four homers in 51 at-bats for Detroit last season.

Mike Hessman, one of Detroit's last cuts this spring, had a three-homer game Sunday for Triple-A Toledo.

Hessman probably would have made the Tigers had Brandon Inge or Marcus Thames gotten traded. Instead, he's hitting .273/.315/.621 with five homers in 66 at-bats for Toledo. The 30-year-old will again be a candidate for a callup if Gary Sheffield lands on the DL.

Tigers sent infielder Mike Hessman outright to Triple-A Toledo.

Hessman was hoping for a trade involving Brandon Inge or Marcus Thames. Since neither materialized, he didn't have a chance of winning a job.
Fri, Mar 28, 2008 05:45:00 PM

The Detroit Free Press expects Mike Hessman to make the team as a bench player if the Tigers trade Brandon Inge and Marcus Thames.

A 29-year-old veteran of a dozen minor league seasons, Hessman would serve as the backup corner infielder after playing third base at Triple-A in 2007. Previously a free swinger with power, Hessman has added enough plate discipline over the past few seasons to potentially be a worthwhile role player.
