Humberto Quintero launched a solo home run Sunday in the Phillies' loss to the Brewers.
Quintero's eighth-inning shot spoiled what might have been a shutout attempt for Brewers starter Kyle Lohse. Quintero is expected to start behind the plate for the Phillies over the next few weeks while Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) and Erik Kratz (knee) recover from their respective injuries. Steven Lerud is the backup. Jun 9 - 4:40 PM

Phillies purchased the contract of C Humberto Quintero from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Quintero was in camp with the Phillies as a non-roster invite, so he'll have to be added to the 40-man roster. With Carlos Ruiz (hand) sidelined, he'll back-up Erik Kratz to start the season.

Humberto Quintero has elected free agency.

The 33-year-old backstop hit .232/.257/.341 with one homer and 19 RBI in 43 games with the Royals before being dealt to the Brewers this past season. He'll attempt to latch on elsewhere, presumably in a third catcher's role.

Royals designated C Humberto Quintero for assignment.

Quintero became expendable after Salvador Perez returned from knee surgery. The 32-year-old backstop is hitting just .232/.257/.341 with one homer and a .598 OPS in 144 plate appearances this year. Brayan Pena will now serve as the primary backup.

Humberto Quintero was ejected from Saturday's game against the Athletics in the top of the seventh inning for arguing with home plate umpire Paul Schriber.

It's unknown whether he was arguing balls and strikes, or was angry about a play at the plate that ended the previous inning. Brayan Pena replaced Quintero in the Royals lineup.

Royals manager Ned Yost currently has Humberto Quintero lined up to catch three of every five games, with Brayan Pena catching the other two.

Quintero will be behind the plate when Luke Hochevar, Jonathan Sanchez and Danny Duffy pitch, while Pena will be back there when it's Bruce Chen and Luis Mendoza on the mound. "I don’t want anybody catching more than two days in a row," Yost said. "I’m trying to keep a balance. I like Quintero with Hoch, Sánchez and Duffy because he’s more of a veteran presence with those guys. I like Peña with Bruce because (Chen) has a really good idea of what he wants to do, and so does Mendoza." Neither player would be terribly appealing for fantasy purposes even if they were playing every day, so, needless to say, they can be ignored given their part-time roles.

Humberto Quintero will start in Saturday's game against the Angels.

The Royals went with Brayan Pena in the season opener, but the two figure to split playing time until Salvador Perez (knee) is ready to return. Continue to ignore both players in all formats.
