Royals signed 1B Casey Kotchman to a minor league contract.
Kotchman, 32, sat out last season after going hitless in 20 at-bats for the Marlins in 2013. The veteran first baseman was a starter not that long ago, but he's merely organizational depth at this point. Mar 6 - 2:57 PM

Marlins released 1B Casey Kotchman.

Kotchman was recalled from his rehab assignment, activated from the disabled list and then cut from the 40-man roster all in one fell swoop. He has been sidelined since early June because of a left oblique strain. It's not clear what the plan is now for the 30-year-old.

Marlins transferred 1B Casey Kotchman from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Kotchman has been out for over a month with a left oblique strain and now won't be eligible to return until the early part of August.

Marlins placed 1B Casey Kotchman on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Kotchman was due for a large dip in playing time anyway with starting first baseman Logan Morrison now back from the 60-day disabled list. Kotchman suffered the injury on Saturday and will probably be out three weeks.

Casey Kotchman is nursing soreness in his ribs.

It sounds like he could be headed back to the DL when Giancarlo Stanton is activated on Monday. Kotchman is due for a drop in playing time, anyway, with Logan Morrison back in action.

Casey Kotchman will be used as the Marlins' regular first baseman.

Greg Doggs is headed back to a bench role. Logan Morrison (knee) isn't far from a return, so Kotchman's status as the everyday first baseman doesn't figure to last long. He's worth playing in NL-only league until LoMo is back, though.

Marlins activated 1B Casey Kotchman from the 60-day disabled list.

Kotchman, out since April 4, batted .261/.320/.261 over six games during his rehab assignment. He should split time with Greg Dobbs at first base now that he's finally healthy.

Casey Kotchman (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

Kotchman has been on a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter, where he's batted .261/.320/.261 over six games. He should see plenty of playing time once activated, but Logan Morrison (knee) is also due back soon.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Casey Kotchman (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment "in the next few days."

Kotchman is finally feeling improvement with his strained left hamstring. He was moved to the 60-day DL last week, though, so he won't be eligible to return until June.

Marlins transferred 1B Casey Kotchman from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for the newly-promoted Derek Dietrich on the active roster. Kotchman, currently sidelined with a strained left hamstring, will not be eligible to return until the first week of June.

Casey Kotchman (hamstring) is feeling better but remains a couple weeks away from returning to action.

Kotchman has been out since early April with a strained left hamstring. The Marlins will continue to use Joe Mahoney at first base for the time being.

Casey Kotchman (hamstring) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday.

Kotchman suffered a left hamstring strain in Wednesday night's game against the Nationals. Greg Dobbs is filling in for him at first base on Thursday and could keep that starting gig for the next two or three weeks.

Casey Kotchman has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day.

As we know with hamstrings, "day-to-day" has the potential to quickly turn into "week-to-week." Greg Dobbs will handle first base while Kotchman is on the shelf.

Casey Kotchman left Wednesday's game with a left hamstring injury.

Kotchman grabbed the hamstring and fell to the ground as he crossed first base after grounding into a double play. He was able to walk off the field on his own, but with hamstrings a DL stint is always possible, if not probable. The Marlins figure to use Greg Dobbs at first base in his absence.
