Clint Nageotte picked up a relief victory Thursday after striking out two in a perfect seventh inning against the Cardinals.
Nageotte fanned both Rick Ankiel and Jolbert Cabrera with his slider, which was once one of the top breaking balls in the majors. Unfortunately, he topped out at just 87 mph with his fastball and averaged about 85. He'd likely have to recover some velocity in order to contribute out of the pen. Thu, Mar 1, 2007 03:51:00 PM

Mets signed RHP Clint Nageotte to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Confirming a deal that was done weeks ago. Nageotte was incredibly promising a couple of years ago, but he's had arm problems and no one took a chance on him when he went through waivers in October. He went 7-7 with a 5.74 ERA, 102 H and 51/53 K/BB in 89 1/3 IP for Triple-A Tacoma last season. The Mets will send him to Triple-A and see if he can work his way back, probably as a reliever.

Mariners sent RHP Clint Nageotte and RHP Renee Cortez outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Nageotte, a former top prospect, went 7-7 with a 5.74 ERA, 102 H and 51/53 K/BB in 89 1/3 IP for Tacoma. He's battled injuries, and his stuff has declined to the point that not one team thought he was worthy of a waiver claim. It's not looking good.

Mariners optioned RHP Clint Nageotte to Triple-A Tacoma.

Nageotte gave up three runs in an inning in his one day with the Mariners.

Mariners recalled RHP Clint Nageotte from Triple-A Tacoma.

Nageotte had an 8/9 K/BB ratio while giving up nine runs -- seven earned -- in 16 1/3 innings for Tacoma. He'll be headed back to the bullpen now after starting games in Triple-A. If the Mariners would let him settle into a role, he might have better luck.

Clint Nageotte pitched no-hit ball for five innings to earn a victory for Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

It's nice to see Nageotte back starting games. With Jesse Foppert struggling, Nageotte could be the next choice to go into the Seattle rotation. Kevin Appier and Bobby Livingston would also be candidates.

Clint Nageotte returned to action on Friday and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Nageotte had been limited to one appearance this spring by a strained left hamstring, probably ruining what chance he had of claiming a place in the bullpen.

Clint Nageotte has a pulled left hamstring and has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday.

Although he was going to start, Nageotte is only in contention for a spot in Seattle's pen. He's probably going to return to Tacoma again this year.

Clint Nageotte has given up his spot on the U.S. Olympic qualifying team for personal reasons.

His family has been told his grandmother has less than two weeks to live, so he's returned home to Ohio. Royals prospect Brian Bass will replace him.

Clint Nageotte pitched one-hit ball for five innings and struck out six for the Javelinas of the AFL today.

Nageotte has allowed three runs and has an 18/2 K/BB ratio in 17 innings for Peoria. He can't win a roster spot this fall, but he can put himself in better position to make the Mariners next spring if he keeps this up.

Clint Nageotte yielded one run in five innings and struck out nine batters tonight in a victory for the Javelinas of the AFL.

The Mariners are trying Nageotte as a starter again, and while it's only been 12 innings, the results so far are encouraging. He has a 2.25 ERA and he's walked just one batter.

Clint Nageotte pitched three scoreless innings in his start for the Javelinas of the AFL today.

Nageotte will likely compete for a bullpen spot in Seattle next spring, but he's being used as a starter in the AFL. He had a 2.65 ERA in 19 relief appearances for Triple-A Tacoma this season after recovering from a forearm strain.

Nageotte will be back to work out of the pen next month.

Clint Nageotte, recalled earlier in the day as Gil Meche's replacement on the roster, was ejected from the game against the Twins after his first pitch sailed over Lew Ford's head.

A ridiculous decision by the umpire, even if Ford had homered earlier. Nageotte wasn't throwing at anyone in his first game back in the majors.

Mariners optioned RHP Clint Nageotte to Triple-A Tacoma.

Felix Hernandez gets a chance, but Nageotte returns to the minors before Masao Kida or Jeff Harris? Well, at least he'll be back in September, if not before.
