Marlins signed RHP Michael Wuertz to a minor league contract.

He's been given a spring training invite. Wuertz signed with the Reds last May but never appeared in a game due to injury. He's healthy now, though, and has a decent chance at landing an Opening Day bullpen spot.

Reds signed RHP Michael Wuertz to a minor league contract.

He'll report to extended spring training before likely being assigned to Triple-A Louisville. Wuertz had a 6.68 ERA in 33 2/3 innings last year for the A's, but he was fantastic back in 2009 and the Reds hope he might be able to recapture some of that form.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Reds have signed free agent reliever Michael Wuertz.

He figures to be assigned to Triple-A Louisville initially but could help out the Reds in short order. Wuertz held a 6.68 ERA in 33 2/3 innings last year for the A's, but he was one of the best set-up men in the game just a couple of years ago.

Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times was told that the Mariners "will not" be signing Michael Wuertz.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman wrote Thursday morning that Wuertz had agreed to a contract with the M's. But that's apparently incorrect. The 31-year-old right-hander has struggled to attract free agent interest after registering a rough 6.68 ERA in 33 2/3 innings last year for the A's.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Mariners have signed reliever Michael Wuertz.

Wuertz failed to attract much interest on the open market this winter after posting an ugly 6.68 ERA and 32/26 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings last year for the A's. The 31-year-old right-hander will presumably serve as organizational relief depth for the Mariners this season.

Wuertz threw for 15 teams Thursday in Tempe last week, but failed to impress. He was limited to just 39 appearances last season due to a thumb injury, posting an ugly 6.68 ERA and 32/26 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings. However, Wuertz was one of the best set-up men in the game just a couple of years ago. It's surprising that a team like the Twins, who were in attendance at his workout and will begin the season with a paper-thin 'pen, haven't at least offered a minor league deal.

We don't have confirmation of all the teams in attendance, but the Twins were expected to send someone. Wuertz was limited to just 39 appearances last season due to a thumb injury, posting an ugly 6.68 ERA and 32/26 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings. However, he was one of the best set-up men in the game just couple of years ago and could be a nice bounceback candidate.

Free agent reliever Michael Wuertz will throw for interested teams Thursday in Tempe, Arizona.

Wuertz held a 6.68 ERA in 33 2/3 innings last season for the Athletics, but he was one of the better relievers in the AL in just a couple years ago, so it's a little surprising that he hasn't netted at least a minor league deal yet. The Twins are one team that's expected to attend the workout.

If healthy, he could make for a nice buy-low opportunity.

Michael Wuertz (thumb) threw 20 pitches over the weekend in a successful bullpen session.

Wuertz hurled both fastballs and sliders, reporting no lingering issues with his sore right thumb. The right-hander is aiming to return to the majors around September 2.
