Andres Blanco broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth inning with a two-run home run, finishing 3-for-6 in Sunday's win against the Nationals.

Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon was involved in a physical altercation with Bryce Harper leading into the inning, and Blanco took full advantage, swatting a two-run home run off of the veteran. The Phillies would bat around and Blanco tacked on an RBI single. The utilityman has turned in a fantastic year, batting .287/.356/.480 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 250 plate appearances. Blanco will likely return to the Phillies in a similar role next season.
Sep 27 - 4:47 PM

Andres Blanco went 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout in Saturday's loss to the Braves.

Blanco's double was the only extra-base hit the Phillies managed in the game. This season, the 31-year-old third baseman is hitting a cool .293/.358/.495 with five homers and 19 RBI over 198 at-bats.
Sep 19 - 9:47 PM

Andres Blanco went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored as the Phillies beat the Braves on Tuesday.

Blanco led off the fifth inning with a triple to right-center and came around to score the Phillies' second run. It's Blanco's third triple in what has been a very productive season in a part-time role in Philadelphia. He also has 17 doubles, five home runs, 18 RBI, 24 runs scored, and a .310/.379/.532 triple-slash line in 192 plate appearances. Blanco should draw a significant raise in his third and final year of arbitration eligibility heading into the 2016 season.
Sep 8 - 9:51 PM

Andres Blanco went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's loss to the Brewers.

Blanco drilled a Neal Cotts offering for a solo home run in the ninth inning. It only served a cosmetic purpose, though, as the Phillies were down 6-0 at the time. Over 109 at-bats, he's hitting .284/.355/.514 with four homers and 13 RBI. Nice numbers given his utility role, but there's not a fantasy play here.

Phillies purchased the contract of INF Andres Blanco from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He's made the Opening Day roster as a utility man. Blanco doesn't figure to see much playing time.
Apr 5 - 2:08 PM

Andres Blanco has elected free agency.

The 30-year-old infielder did a respectable job in a reserve role for the Phillies in 2014, slashing .277/.306/.447 with a homer and three RBI in his 47 at-bats. He'll likely have to settle for a minor league deal with a spring training invitation elsewhere.

Phillies sent INF Andres Blanco outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

It's nothing more than a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Phillies. The 30-year-old infielder appeared in 25 games with the Phillies in 2014, slashing .277/.306/.447 with a homer and three RBI in 47 at-bats.

Phillies purchased the contract of INF Andres Blanco from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Blanco has spent all season at Lehigh Valley, batting .241/.314/.285 over 45 games. The 30-year-old hasn't played in a major league game since 2011.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Tuesday that Andres Blanco may travel to Philadelphia this weekend for the team's final exhibition games.

In other words, the Phillies are considering him as a possible backup shortstop. Reid Brignac and Cesar Hernandez are the alternatives.

Phillies reassigned INF Andres Blanco, RHP Ken Giles and LHP Cesar Jimenez to minor league camp.

Still just 29-years-old, Blanco hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2011 season when he was a member of the Rangers. He'll continue to function as organizational depth in the minor leagues.

Phillies signed INF Andres Blanco to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Blanco batted .235/.301/.346 with 10 homers in 2012 for the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate, but Philadelphia released him this past February. Blanco didn't pick up a contract from a different organization in 2013, so he's decided to re-join his former team.

Phillies released INF Andres Blanco.

Blanco batted .235/.301/.346 with 10 homers last season for the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate. He'll catch on somewhere else as minor league depth.

Phillies signed INF Andres Blanco to a minor league contract.

Blanco opted out of his contract with the Nationals after he failed to win an Opening Day roster spot and will provide infield depth for the Phillies with Chase Utley (knee) out indefinitely. Blanco batted just .224/.263/.342 over 82 plate appearances with the Rangers last season.

Andres Blanco is expected to opt out of his minor league contract with the Nationals.

The veteran infielder failed to win an Opening Day roster spot and evidently thinks he'll find a better situation elsewhere. He batted just .224/.263/.342 over 82 plate appearances with the Rangers last season.
