Pirates released 1B Brad Hawpe.

Hawpe struggled mightily in spring training and was never a candidate for the Pirates' Opening Day roster. He won't draw any major league interest, but should be able to latch on with another team after spending last season with the Rangers as organizational depth.
Mar 23 - 8:48 AM

Brad Hawpe homered in the bottom of the eighth to help the Pirates edge the Orioles 4-3 on Monday.

Hawpe was 3-for-23 with 10 strikeouts this spring before taking Daniel Schlereth deep for his first home run. He's not going to make the Pirates, but perhaps he'll be able to impress one of the other 29 teams before Opening Day.
Mar 11 - 5:19 PM

Brad Hawpe went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts on Thursday and is 2-for-20 with nine strikeouts this spring.

The Pirates weren't counting on Hawpe when they took a flier on him a couple of months ago, and he hasn't emerged as a threat to make the team. If he wants to continue his career in Triple-A, he'll be given that opportunity.

Pirates signed 1B/OF Brad Hawpe to a minor league contract.

Hawpe was released by the Rangers last season after failing to earn a promotion beyond the Double-A level. He'll receive a spring training invite with the Pirates, but isn't likely to crack the Opening Day roster.

Rangers released 1B-OF Brad Hawpe.

Brad Hawpe has been placed on the disabled list at Double-A Frisco because of elbow fatigue.

Hawpe underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last August and is still rebuilding the strength in his right arm. The 32-year-old should be fine after a few weeks of rest but seems unlikely to have any sort of impact at the major league level this season.

Rangers re-signed 1B Brad Hawpe to a minor league contract; assigned him to Double-A Frisco.

Hawpe was released by the Rangers last week after batting .261/.370/.478 in 13 games this spring. He'll stick around as a depth for the major league roster.

Rangers released 1B Brad Hawpe.

Hawpe was not open to accepting a spot in the Rangers' minor league system and will instead look to sign on quickly with a team that has an opening in the major leagues. The 32-year-old outfielder-first baseman batted .261/.370/.478 in 13 games this spring.

Brad Hawpe (hamstring) made it through his Cactus League debut without any setbacks.

Hawpe is recovering from a sore right hamstring and working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He's expected to compete for a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day bench.

Brad Hawpe (hamstring) will not play in a B-game on Thursday.

Hawpe was originally scheduled to play first base and lead off every inning Thursday, but he's evidently still a couple of days away from game action. The 32-year-old has been slowed with a sore right hamstring this spring and is also working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He's falling behind in his efforts to win a bench job this spring.

Brad Hawpe (hamstring) ran on a treadmill Monday.

Hawpe plans to progress to on-field work on Tuesday and should be cleared for Cactus League action by the end of this week. He's been slowed in Rangers camp by hamstring soreness but has plenty of time to get his at-bats in before the start of the regular season. Hawpe is trying to lock up a spot on Texas' Opening Day bench.

Brad Hawpe (hamstring) took batting practice Sunday and is a day or two away from being able to run at full speed.

Hawpe has been nursing a hamstring ailment for a few days but appears to be progressing well. He's also coming back from Tommy John surgery, which has kept him from being able to play the outfield. The non-roster invitee is hoping to win a bench spot with the Rangers.

Brad Hawpe was scratched from Thursday's intrasquad game due to mild hamstring soreness.

He is scheduled to be reevaluated on Friday. Hawpe, a non-roster invitee, is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery last August. He's hoping to win a spot as a bench player.

Brad Hawpe (Tommy John surgery) is able to swing and play first base at the start of spring training but is still building up arm strength.

Hawpe underwent Tommy John surgery in August, and it seems unlikely that he'll be ready to play the outfield at the beginning of the season. He's hoping to earn an Opening Day roster spot as a bench player but might have to start the year at Triple-A while nursing his elbow back to full strength.
