Mike Adams said Friday that his back hasn't improved, but that a trip to the disabled list hasn't been discussed yet.

Adams hasn't pitched since last Friday and received a cortisone injection following a setback on Tuesday. It's unlikely the Phillies will want to go short-handed for much longer, so something will have to give soon.
May 17 - 4:13 PM

Mike Adams had a setback Tuesday while playing catch and was given a cortisone injection in his back.

Adams hasn't pitched in a game since last Friday because of lower back discomfort. He's considered day-to-day for now but could need a 15-day disabled list stint if the pain lingers for much longer.
May 15 - 5:00 PM

Mike Adams is day-to-day with back spasms.

Adams wasn't available Sunday and will be shut down for a few days with a lower back injury. The Phillies are being conservative with his workload after he had offseason surgery to correct Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Adams is not expected to be placed on the disabled list.
May 12 - 9:57 PM

Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee revealed Friday that Mike Adams has been dealing with a "tender hip."

Adams wasn't available Thursday and it's unclear whether the Phillies will use him on Friday. It's worth noting that he has appeared in 11 of the team's 23 games -- a heavy workload coming off surgery to address his thoracic outlet syndrome -- so the club is just being cautious. "A lot of work," said Dubee. "He had a tender hip, but that’s no issue. He aggravated it one day. But that you go with… you’ll have stuff (like that) on a regular basis. But the workload – he’s pitched a lot."
Apr 26 - 5:43 PM

Mike Adams said Friday that he wishes he "felt a little bit better."

Adams owns a 2.57 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio over seven innings this season, but he has displayed diminished velocity. The veteran set-up man indicated that he might not be 100 percent following October to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome, so the situation is worth monitoring. He joined the Phillies this winter on a two-year, $12 million contract.
Apr 19 - 6:20 PM

Mike Adams pitched a scoreless inning Thursday against the Braves in his spring debut.

Adams, returning from thoracic outlet syndrome, shouldn't need very many innings this spring in order to get ready for the regular season. The Phillies might as well save his bullets.
Feb 28 - 5:23 PM

Mike Adams will make his Grapefruit League debut Thursday.

Adams had surgery in October to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome and is being held back due to the lengthy spring training schedule. The 34-year-old registered a 3.27 ERA in 61 appearances last season and will open 2013 in a setup role for Jonathan Papelbon.
Feb 27 - 10:48 AM

Mike Adams is on schedule for spring training following surgery in October to correct his Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.

Adams has already thrown off a mound three times and will do so again on Thursday. He probably won't pitch until the second week of the Grapefruit League schedule, but there's no need to push it with spring training being longer than usual this year. "It has nothing to do with injury reasons," said Adams. "It's going to be a long spring training. There really is no reason to get 18 innings in the spring. We're going to save some bullets from the very beginning." Adams inked a two-year, $12 million contract with the Phillies over the winter and could be a shutdown set-up man for Jonathan Papelbon.
Feb 13 - 3:45 PM

Mike Adams has admitted that he dealt with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome all of last season.

"Last year was a struggle for me," Adams said. "The TOS was something that kicked in in early April. I didn't know what was happening. I thought I was just having some shoulder discomfort issues. The majority of the season I battled not having the same stuff I had previously." This would help explain why the reliever's velocity was down and he wasn't as effective in 2012. Adams, of course, eventually had surgery in October to address the issue. Assuming he returns at 100 percent, he could be in line for a big bounce-back season.

Phillies signed RHP Mike Adams to a two-year, $12 million contract with a vesting option for 2015.

Adams agreed to the deal last weekend then had it finalized on Thursday after passing his physical. The 34-year-old righty boasts a stellar 2.28 career ERA, 1.06 career WHIP and 9.0 career K/9. He should do well in a setup role behind Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Phillies and Mike Adams have agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with a vesting option for a third year.

The deal is pending a physical, which isn't a formality with Adams returning from October surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. One of the top relievers over the last five seasons, Adams has a 1.98 ERA since his return to the major leagues in 2008. The Phillies are expected to use him in their eighth-inning role as a setup man for Jonathan Papelbon.

Yahoo Sports' Tim Brown reports that the Phillies and Mike Adams are close to a two-year deal with a vesting option for a third year.

The Phillies have decided to put some of their Shane Victorino-Hunter Pence savings into building one of the game's most expensive reports. KRIS-TV reported earlier that the Adams contract would be worth $18 million over three years. They may have the dollars right, but Brown reports that the third year will be in the form of a vesting option.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com says the "market is building" for Mike Adams.

Stark doesn't mention any teams in on Adams, but he'll surely have no shortage of suitors if teams are convinced he'll be recovered from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery by February as he says. ESPN.com's Jim Bowden reported last month that the Red Sox, White Sox and Angels were among the clubs interested in the reliever.

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM, the Red Sox, White Sox and Angels are "playing on" Mike Adams.

And the Rangers are hoping to re-sign the talented setup man. Adams, 34, posted a 3.27 ERA in 52 1/3 innings this summer. He has a 2.28 career ERA and 1.06 career WHIP, and may be able to fetch a three-year contract.
