It was just his sixth start of the season, as Treanor's playing time has been limited with A.J. Ellis faring well. The 36-year-old career backup won't make any noise in fantasy even if injury forces him into a bigger role.

The Dodgers have Tim Federowicz on the cusp of the majors, but look for the veteran backstop to serve as the backup to A.J. Ellis in 2012.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Dodgers are "making progress" with catcher Matt Treanor.

The expectation is that the veteran catcher will soon ink a one-year deal worth about $1 million. Treanor, 35, batted just .214/.338/.291 over 242 plate appearances this year, but he's a sound defender and a decent backup.

MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports that the Dodgers are looking to sign veteran catcher Matt Treanor.

Treanor batted just .214/.338/.291 in 242 plate appearances this year between the Royals and Rangers, but he's always been a steady defender. The 35-year-old would give Los Angeles better catching depth behind A.J. Ellis and rookie Tim Federowicz.

The Rangers have added Matt Treanor to the roster for the World Series against the Cardinals.

Treanor was left off the roster for the ALCS against the Tigers after serving as the third catcher during the ALDS, but he's back now that the Rangers will play under NL rules against the Cardinals. Yoshinori Tateyama, who took Treanor's spot in the ALCS, has been removed from the roster.

The Rangers have dropped catcher Matt Treanor from their ALCS roster and added right-hander Yoshinori Tateyama.

The Rangers used Treanor as their third catcher during the ALDS, but Yorvit Torrealba is now expected to serve as the primary backup to the hot-hitting Mike Napoli. Tateyama will join an eight-man bullpen after posting a 4.50 ERA over 44 innings during the regular season.

The Rangers acquired Treanor from the Royals for cash considerations on Thursday. The 35-year-old backstop was recently sidelined with a concussion, but didn't have any issues during his minor league rehab assignment. He has a .226/.351/.306 batting line and a .658 OPS over 230 plate appearances this season.

Treanor will join the team Thursday. The Rangers traded Treanor to the Royals at the end of spring training, but they will carry him as a third catcher down the stretch and potentially during the postseason. It's worth mentioning that he developed a rapport with C.J. Wilson last season, so it will be interesting to see how he is used by Ron Washington.

According to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, the Royals are close to trading Matt Treanor to the Rangers.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News speculated about the possibility earlier in the day Wednesday and it appears a deal is close to done. Treanor, 35, was popular in the clubhouse last season and will give Ron Washington a third catcher alongside Yorvit Torrealba and Mike Napoli. The veteran backstop was recently sidelined with a concussion, but hasn't had any issues during his recent minor league rehab assignment. The Royals are expected to receive cash considerations in return.

Matt Treanor (concussion) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on September 1.

Treanor has played five rehab games with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and showed no lingering effects from his concussion, but the Royals will wait until rosters expand to activate him. He's been out since late July.

Matt Treanor went 1-for-2 with two RBI in his first rehab game Wednesday at Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

"Everything came back good," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He felt good, he was 1-for-2, caught good. I think he caught five innings and he'll take the day off [Thursday]." Treanor should feel well enough to return to the Royals' big league bench early next week.

Matt Treanor passed his impact test, which measures recovery from concussions, and can now return to game action.

A rehab assignment is likely. Treanor suffered the concussion on a nasty collision with Matt LaPorta at home plate. He failed the test the first time, which resulted in him landing on the 7-day DL.
