The 32-year-old former top prospect hit .265/.344/.490 with 17 homers and 62 RBI in 81 games at the Triple-A level in 2012. He's always shown the propensity to mash the baseball, and could get a look from the Dodgers if the unproven Luis Cruz struggles early on.

White Sox purchased the contract of 3B Dallas McPherson from Triple-A Charlotte.

McPherson was once a top prospect in the Angels organization but he hasn't played in the majors since 2008. He has battled injuries throughout his career and is now 30 years old. McPherson has smacked 110 homers with a .599 slugging percentage in 379 games at Triple-A, but struck out 511 times over that span. He'll be a bench bat with the White Sox until Mark Teahen returns from the disabled list.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the White Sox have signed Dallas McPherson to a minor league contract.

McPherson was once a top prospect in the Angels organization, but recently turned 30 years old and hasn't played in the majors since 2008. He batted .267/.339/.541 with 22 homers and 75 RBI in 318 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento in the Athletics' organization this past season.

The Athletics made their first cuts today, most notably sending down corner infielder Dallas McPherson, shortstop Grant Green, and second baseman Jemile Weeks.

Catcher Max Stassi was also sent down. Manager Bob Geren had positive reviews of McPherson, Weeks and Stassi, but McPherson will go from possibly starting at third base in Oakland to definitely starting in Triple-A. Weeks still has some buzz about his name, but he needs to show he can handle Double-A after putting up a poor .238/.303/.343 line there in his first 105 at-bats at the level. Stassi had a nice debut in 2009, but is only 18.

The deal comes with an invitation to spring training. McPherson, who at one time was a highly touted prospect, has battled injuries throughout his career and is now 29 years old. He has 150 home runs and a .586 career slugging percentage in 608 minor league games but also carries a lousy .245/.298/.458 career batting line on the major league level.

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants have signed Dallas McPherson to a minor league contract.

McPherson, a former top prospect, was released by the Marlins at the end of spring training. The Giants will get him started at Triple-A Fresno. "There's always a hope in our minds than anyone in our minor-league system has an upside," VP of baseball operations Bobby Evans said Saturday when asked about the 28-year-old's potential. "It's hard to argue with his bat."

Marlins released third baseman Dallas McPherson.

Our expectations for the Marlins get lower by the hour. Because of the foolish decision to re-sign Wes Helms to a guaranteed contract, the team is now in a position to have an entirely right-handed bench. It's not even a good right-handed bench. Ronny Paulino and Helms are only acceptable against left-handers, and Robert Andino and Brett Carroll have yet to show they can be useful major leaguers at all. Those four combined to hit .223 with nine homers and a 118/33 K/BB ratio in 449 major league at-bats last season. McPherson is hardly a sure thing, but he sure seemed like a great fit for a team going with a light-hitting righty at third. Hopefully, he's able to quickly find a fit elsewhere.

Dallas McPherson returned to action on Thursday and walked three times against the Orioles.

The six days off due to an oblique injury may have doomed McPherson's chances of making the Marlins, but it could very well be for the best that he get out of Florida anyway. The Astros, Cardinals and Mariners are three teams that should consider taking a chance on him if he hits the waiver wire.
