Matt Guerrier said he's already throwing from a mound following surgery last August to repair the flexor tendon in his right elbow.

Guerrier, 35, posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings between the Dodgers and Cubs last season prior to undergoing surgery in August to repair the flexor mass in his right arm. Matt Guerrier underwent surgery Friday to repair the flexor mass in his right arm.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Guerrier is expected to miss 6-8 months, which gives him a chance to be ready around the start of the 2014 season. The veteran reliever will be a free agent this winter and will almost certainly have to settle for a minor league deal.

Matt Guerrier will seek a second opinion for a tear in his right forearm flexor mass.

Guerrier has been told the tear is in the area near the elbow. Surgery would sideline him for 6-8 months, which gives him a chance to be ready for the 2014 season if there are no setbacks. The 35-year-old will be a free agent this winter, so he'll likely have to settle for a minor league contract.
