Matt Guerrier's agent, Joe Bick, said that his client is "not willing" to push back the May 8 opt-out in his minor league contract with the Twins.

In other words, he's prepared to test free agency if the Twins don't add him to the major league roster by Thursday. Guerrier has pitched fairly well in the minors, posting a 1.12 ERA and 8/4 K/BB ratio over eight innings between Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester. The 35-year-old is working his way back from surgery to repair the flexor mass in his right elbow.

Matt Guerrier (elbow) struck out one over two-thirds of a scoreless inning in his first appearance with Triple-A Rochester Wednesday.

Twins released RHP Matt Guerrier.

Matt Guerrier (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday and is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday.

The veteran right-hander underwent surgery in August to repair the flexor tendon in his right elbow, and has been brought along slowly in spring camp. Provided he makes it through the spring healthy, he has a good chance of securing a bullpen job on the team's Opening Day roster.

Matt Guerrier is only throwing fastballs and will likely miss the Twins' first few spring games.

Guerrier underwent surgery last August to repair the flexor tendon in his right elbow and is taking a cautious approach at this point in camp. The 35-year-old right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Twins in January and will battle for a bullpen job.

Guerrier, 35, posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings between the Dodgers and Cubs last season prior to undergoing surgery in August to repair the flexor mass in his right arm. Assuming he's back to full health, he could compete for a bullpen job in the spring. Guerrier spent the first seven seasons of his major league career with the Twins.

Matt Guerrier underwent surgery Friday to repair the flexor mass in his right arm.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Guerrier is expected to miss 6-8 months, which gives him a chance to be ready around the start of the 2014 season. The veteran reliever will be a free agent this winter and will almost certainly have to settle for a minor league deal.

Matt Guerrier will seek a second opinion for a tear in his right forearm flexor mass.

Guerrier has been told the tear is in the area near the elbow. Surgery would sideline him for 6-8 months, which gives him a chance to be ready for the 2014 season if there are no setbacks. The 35-year-old will be a free agent this winter, so he'll likely have to settle for a minor league contract.
