Royals released LHP George Sherrill.
Sherrill posted a 6.23 ERA over 21 appearances at Triple-A Omaha in his first action back from Tommy John surgery. He struck out 30 over 21 2/3 innings, though, and seems likely to draw interest elsewhere. Fri, Jun 28, 2013 11:39:00 AM

Royals re-signed LHP George Sherrill to a minor league contract.

The Royals released Sherrill on Tuesday rather than pay him a $100,000 retention bonus, but they were expected to attempt to bring him back. The 35-year-old southpaw is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and is unlikely to pitch in games until around May.

Royals released LHP George Sherrill.

Sherrill didn't pitch in a game this spring, as he's still in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery last May. There's a chance the Royals could bring him back.

The Royals believe George Sherrill (elbow) could be ready to pitch in games by late April.

Sherrill, who had Tommy John surgery last May, threw "free and easy" during a workout Friday. The veteran left-hander signed a minor league deal in December but is virtually assured of a roster spot as long as he doesn't experience a setback.

Royals signed LHP George Sherrill to a minor league contract.

The deal includes a spring training invite. Sherrill had Tommy John surgery this past May and might not be ready for the start of the 2013 season. But there's enough upside to take a shot.

Mariners transferred LHP George Sherrill from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

It's a procedural move in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Stephen Pryor. Sherrill will miss the rest of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

George Sherrill is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early May.

He's out for the year and may just decide to call it quits. Sherrill hasn't pitched since the Mariners' Opening Day series in Japan. The veteran southpaw had a 3.00 ERA in 36 innings last year for the Braves and agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Seattle in December. He lasted 1 1/3 innings. The Mariners will go with Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for left-handed relief in the short-term.

The Seattle Times' Geoff Baker reports that George Sherrill is scheduled to undergo elbow surgery in May and is likely out for the season.

Sherrill hasn't pitched since the Mariners' Opening Day series in Japan, but his injury woes date back to last season. The Mariners will go with Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for left-handed relief in the short-term. An official timetable for Sherrill won't be established until after the surgery.

George Sherrill had an MRI taken on his left elbow Saturday and is awaiting the results.

Sherrill and the Mariners should have some news to pass along in the next day or two. As of now, there is no definitive timetable for the lefty's return to the M's 'pen.

Mariners placed LHP George Sherrill on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 10, with a strained flexor bundle in his left elbow.

It sounds like Sherrill's elbow problems from late last year have crossed over to the start of the 2012 season. The 34-year-old southpaw has allowed four runs on six hits over his first 1 1/3 innings, so obviously something isn't right. The timeline for his return isn't yet known.

George Sherrill (elbow) will make his spring debut Monday.

A sore elbow has held him back thus far in camp. Hishashi Iwakuma will start Monday against the Padres, with Sherrill following him. "I'm eager to get in there and see how it holds up, facing somebody besides our own guys," Sherrill said. "But at the same time, I need to be smart and make sure I'm hot and warm and not trying to throw a million mph."

George Sherrill (elbow) threw his first bullpen session of the spring Tuesday in Mariners camp.

Sherrill should now be cleared to begin a normal throwing routine. He was brought along slowly this winter after coming down with elbow inflammation late last year.

George Sherrill will wait a few more days before throwing his first bullpen session.

The M's are just being cautious in the early days of camp, as Sherrill won't need many innings to get ready for the start of the season. The 34-year-old left-hander posted a 3.00 ERA and 38/12 K/BB ratio over 36 innings with the Braves last season, though he didn't make a single appearance in September due to left elbow inflammation. Assuming he's healthy, he should open the season as Seattle's left-handed specialist.

Mariners signed LHP George Sherrill to a one-year contract.

The deal, which is expected to be worth around $1.1 million in base salary, was reported earlier this month and is now official. Sherrill, 34, posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 36 innings in 2011 for the Braves while holding left-handed batters to a .256/.275/.333 batting line. He'll be used as a lefty specialist for the M's in 2012.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Mariners and lefty George Sherrill have reached a deal.

It's a one-year contract, thought to be worth around $1.1 million in base salary. Sherrill, 34, posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 36 innings in 2011 for the Braves while holding left-handed batters to a .256/.275/.333 slash line. He'll serve a lefty specialist in 2012 for Seattle.
