Jeff Francis has decided to retire from baseball.
Francis, who turns 35 in January, has decided to hang it up after 11 seasons in the majors. The southpaw is best remembered for his time with the Rockies and looks back on his experience in Denver fondly. "It's a special place," said Francis. "I spent the bulk of my time there. It was at times an up-and-down career, but to have the time in Denver playing in the World Series, and playing for a team that grew up together, that's pretty satisfying." Francis walks away from the game with a 72-82 record and a 4.97 career ERA. Tue, Dec 15, 2015 03:00:00 PM

Coming on to pitch after a long rain delay in Thursday's contest with the Orioles, Jeff Francis allowed one run on two hits over 2 2/3 innings.

Drew Hutchison started for the Blue Jays and surrendered three runs in his first inning of work before being waylaid by a long rain delay. Francis was the first arm to attempt to pick up the pieces once play resumed. He struck out three and walked three during his short appearance. Paul Janish nicked him for an RBI single in the second inning to account for the run on his line. While the Blue Jays are heading to the postseason, it's unlikely we'll see Francis ply his trade in the coming weeks, as he currently holds a 6.43 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 21/9 K/BB ratio over 21 innings.

The 34-year-old southpaw posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 15/5 K/BB ratio over 12 innings out of the Blue Jays bullpen. There's a chance that other teams desperate for left-handed bullpen help could come calling, otherwise he'll function as organizational depth for Toronto.

Jeff Francis surrendered four runs in two-thirds of an inning versus the Rays on Wednesday.

Francis is in the running for a bullpen spot, and he had entered the day with four strikeouts in three scoreless innings this spring. This sounds like quite a setback, though there should be time for him to bounce back from one poor performance.
