Scott Atchison is nursing soreness in his right elbow.

It's no surprise, of course, given that Atchison has been pitching with a partially torn UCL for a while now. The righty isn't so much worried about the soreness as he is that he had numbness and tingling in his arm that left him unable to feel the ball. He'll be examined Tuesday and seems likely to require a trip to the disabled list.
May 13 - 10:23 PM

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Scott Atchison from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Atchison earned a spot with a 2.38 ERA over 10 appearances this spring. He has a partially torn UCL in his elbow that could snap at any time, but he should provide decent middle relief as long as he's healthy.
Mar 29 - 3:56 PM

Scott Atchison pitched a perfect inning against the Marlins in his second spring appearance Tuesday.

Despite a 1.58 ERA in 51 1/3 innings last season, Atchison was unwanted this winter, all thanks to a partially torn UCL in his elbow. He plans on pitching through the injury, and he's started his spring with two scoreless innings. He'll surely have a spot in the Mets pen if he remains healthy.
Feb 26 - 4:24 PM

Mets signed RHP Scott Atchison to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Atchison was non-tendered by the Red Sox in late November after he posted a quality 1.58 ERA and 36/9 K/BB ratio over 51 1/3 innings last season. The 36-year-old right-hander pitched through a torn ulnar collateral ligament late in the year, but he should have a good chance at winning a bullpen spot if he shows up to spring training healthy.

Scott Atchison expects to sign a minor league deal this week, but it will not be with the Red Sox.

The Sox offered Atchison a minor league deal after he was non-tendered, but he most likely would have started the year at Triple-A, which "wasn't really what I had deserved and what I had earned with them in that situation," according to the reliever. Atchison pitched through a torn ulnar collateral ligament late in the year but doesn't expect it to be an issue in 2013.
Jan 28 - 11:04 PM

The Red Sox will not tender Scott Atchison a contract.

Athison posted a 1.58 ERA over 42 games with the Red Sox in 2012. The move isn't a surprise, though, as he'll turn 37 prior to Opening Day and pitched through a torn ulnar collateral ligament late in the year. It's possible he could end up re-signing on a minor league deal. "I would like to stay in Boston," he said, "but now we're going to have to see what's out there."

Red Sox activated RHP Scott Atchison from the 60-day disabled list.

Atchison will attempt to pitch through a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, as he believes it was a pre-existing injury. The veteran righty will be used in long relief.

Scott Atchison (elbow) threw two simulated innings Sunday.

Atchison has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow but is attempting to pitch through it. He's eligible to be activated from the DL Wednesday.

Scott Atchison (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Monday at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Atchison, currently on the disabled list with a torn UCL, managed to avoid Tommy John surgery and is attempting to rejoin the Red Sox later this month. The minor league season ends Monday, but Atchison figures to continue his rehab into the playoffs assuming he's healthy.

Red Sox transferred RHP Scott Atchison from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for the newly-acquired Pedro Beato the 40-man roster. Atchison was recently diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and is attempting to rehab the injury rather than undergo Tommy John surgery.

Scott Atchison will try to rehab the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

The assumption was that Atchison would undergo Tommy John surgery, but Dr. James Andrews believes the injury was pre-existing and that he could pitch through it. There's no timetable for his return and it's possible he may end up needing surgery if his rehab effort fails.

Scott Atchison has been diagnosed with a torn UCL.

Atchison is seeking a second opinion, but it's doubtful to turn up better news. The 36-year-old righty is likely to require Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

Scott Atchison (forearm) had a setback in his latest rehab appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but any setback is a concern. Atchison is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine whether or not he's dealing with structural damage.

Scott Atchison (forearm) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance Friday with Triple-A Pawtucket.

If it goes well, the Red Sox may rush him back to the big league bullpen. Atchison has been on the disabled list since July 14 because of tightness in his right forearm.
