Rays purchased the contract of OF Freddy Guzman from Triple-A Durham.

Guzman has spent the last three years in the Mexican League and didn't play at all in 2010. He'll be used strictly as a pinch-runner during the final weeks.

Phillies signed OF Freddy Guzman to a minor league contract.

Guzman played with four different clubs last season, eventually finishing with the Yankees. The 29-year-old has a .270/.344/.360 batting line and 443 stolen bases in 3,046 minor league at-bats.

Freddy Guzman has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Scanton/Wilkes-Barre.

Guzman played with four organizations in 2009, but his season ended with a ring. The Yankees acquired the 28-year-old outfielder from the Orioles in August, and he played a key role on Joe Girardi's bench, often appearing as a pinch-runner. Guzman was even included on the postseason roster during the ALCS. He'll look to latch on with another team.

The Yankees have added OF Freddy Guzman to their ALCS roster.

Eric Hinske has been left off. Guzman won't play much, if at all, but provides a lot more speed on the basepaths than Hinske. He stole four bases in 10 games for the Yankees near the end of the regular season.

Yankees purchased the contract of outfielder Freddy Guzman from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Apparently the Yankees are considering using Guzman as a pinch-runner on the postseason roster. He does have speed to burn and has swiped 443 bases in 784 minor league games. The 28-year-old has played in only 37 games in the majors, none since a short 2007 stint with the Rangers. Guzman was acquired from the Orioles on August 31 for future considerations.

Yankees acquired outfielder Freddy Guzman from the Orioles for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Guzman has been assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He was inked to a minor league contract by the O's in early August and has batted just .219/.261/.289 in 329 total minor league at-bats this season. His 38 stolen bases are worth a mention, but the 28-year-old isn't likely to crack a major league roster anytime soon.

Orioles signed CF Freddy Guzman to a minor league contract.

Guzman was recently in the Red Sox organization. He was let go when the Sox acquired Brian Anderson, and joins the Orioles for outfield depth. Joey Gathright is entrenched in center for Triple-A Norfolk, so Guzman will have to fight for playing time.

Red Sox signed outfielder Freddy Guzman to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Guzman recently had surgery to repair a broken hamate bone in his hand. He was batting .213 in 13 games before the Mariners released him.

Freddy Guzman underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair the broken hamate bone in his right hand.

Manager Don Wakamatsu said that the surgery "went well," and Guzman should return to action in 3-4 weeks. He's likely to report to Triple-A once healthy.

Freddy Guzman is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after fracturing the hamate bone in his right hand during Tuesday's intrasquad game.

A non-roster invitee to Mariners camp, Guzman is scheduled to undergo surgery next week. He may miss the start of Triple-A Tacoma's season because of the injury.

Tigers sent outfielder Freddy Guzman outright to Double-A Erie.

Even with Curtis Granderson sidelined, the Tigers felt they had no use for the speedy Guzman. They went so far as to stick him in Double-A because they have younger players they like at Triple-A Toledo. Guzman should ask for his release so he can try again elsewhere. He's definitely more of an NL player.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers have placed Freddy Guzman on outright waivers.

Guzman was thought to be a strong candidate for an Opening Day roster spot with Curtis Granderson sidelined, but giving every other team in baseball a chance to snatch him up signals that's obviously not the case. If Guzman goes unclaimed, the Tigers can send him to Triple-A. Clete Thomas now seems likely to make the roster as an outfield reserve.

Tigers acquired outfielder Freddy Guzman from the Rangers for first baseman Chris Shelton.

Guzman hit .269/.348/.363 with 56 steals for Triple-A Toledo last season. The soon-to-be 27-year-old was expected at least to have established himself as a big-league reserve by now because of his speed and defense. Maybe it will happen in Detroit, though he's not the ideal option to start over Curtis Granderson against tough lefties.

The Tigers have reportedly acquired Freddy Guzman from the Rangers.

It appears the Tigers wanted some extra center field insurance with Cameron Maybin gone. The light-hitting Guzman wasn't being considered for the vacancy in Texas. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News is hoping the Rangers are getting Chris Shelton in return.
