Date:

Orioles designated C Chris Snyder for assignment.

He's no longer needed with Taylor Teagarden back from the DL. The Orioles hope Snyder will stick around, but he can opt out of his deal if another team offers him a major league job.
Jun 4 - 7:35 PM

Orioles purchased the contract of C Chris Snyder from Triple-A Norfolk.

Snyder was acquired via trade over the weekend following the injury to Taylor Teagarden. He'll back up Matt Wieters.
Apr 30 - 6:38 PM

Chris Snyder will be added to the Orioles' active roster Tuesday.

Snyder was acquired from the Angels on Sunday for right-hander Rob Delaney. He'll serve as Matt Wieters' backup while Taylor Teagarden (thumb) is on the mend.
Apr 30 - 9:13 AM

Orioles acquired Chris Snyder from the Angels for RHP Rob Delaney.

Snyder, 32, was hitting .342/.388/.684 with Angels' Triple-A affiliate. With Taylor Teagarden on the disabled list, he could be an option for the backup catcher job.
Apr 28 - 11:44 PM

Chris Snyder has accepted a spot at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Snyder was allowed to opt out of his minor league contract with the Angels but decided to remain with the club rather than test the free agent waters. He will serve as organizational catching depth this season.
Apr 1 - 1:36 PM

Chris Snyder can opt out of his minor league deal with the Angels if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster.

Snyder latched on with the Angels on Monday after he was given his release by the Nationals. The 32-year-old has a decent chance of pushing Hank Conger for the backup catcher job.
Mar 18 - 4:33 PM

Angels signed C Chris Snyder to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Snyder got released by the Nationals on Monday afternoon but was out of work for no longer than a minute or two. Hank Conger is hitting everything this year in the Cactus League, but he's having problems with his throws from behind the plate. Snyder will push Conger for the backup spot behind starting catcher Chris Iannetta.
Mar 18 - 11:50 AM

Nationals released C Chris Snyder.

Snyder was drawing a bit of trade interest before the Nats cut ties with him, so he shouldn't be out of work long. The 32-year-old hit just .176/.295/.308 in 76 games last season with the Astros, but he does have some power.
Mar 18 - 11:47 AM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are among the teams interested in Chris Snyder.

Rosenthal says that Snyder is "likely to be moved" given the Nats' catching depth. The 32-year-old batted just .176/.295/.308 last season for the Astros, but he did have seven homers in 76 games. He would be a fine backup.
Mar 17 - 11:33 AM

Chris Snyder went 2-for-2 and hit a two-run homer off the Mets' Shaun Marcum on Friday.

Snyder was unable to land a backup gig this winter and settled for a minor league contract with the Nationals earlier this month. There's no room for him on Washington's 25-man roster as is, but he'd be an obvious candidate for a trade if some catchers start going down this spring.
Feb 23 - 3:40 PM

Nationals signed C Chris Snyder to a minor league contract.

The deal presumably includes a spring training invite. Snyder, 32, batted just .176/.295/.308 with seven homers and a .602 OPS over 258 plate appearances with the Astros last season. He'll function as insurance in case Wilson Ramos is slow coming back from knee surgery.
Feb 5 - 1:31 PM

Astros declined C Chris Snyder's $4 million option for 2013.

Snyder will get a $500,000 buyout and test free agency. It's not a surprise to see the Astros decline, as $4 million is a hefty price for an unproductive backup catcher. The 31-year-old backstop batted just .176/.295/.308 with seven homers, 24 RBI and a .602 OPS in 258 plate appearances this year.

According to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, it "doesn't appear" the Astros will pick up Chris Snyder's $4 million option for 2013.

Snyder has a $500,000 buyout and isn't expected to return. The Astros will likely explore the free agent market for a backup catcher. Carlos Corporan is among the in-house candidates to replace Snyder.
Mon, Oct 29, 2012 03:12:00 PM

Chris Snyder went 1-for-4 and drove home the Astros' lone run in their loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

Snyder has really struggled to get things going in the early part of the year, hitting just .100 (2-for-20) as he surrenders most of the at-bats at the catching position to Jason Castro. He's a solid veteran and does have some pop left in his bat, but isn't a factor in fantasy leagues.
