Nationals signed C Chris Snyder to a minor league contract.

The 32-year-old backstop appeared in just nine games with the Orioles in 2013, but hit a respectable .273/.330/.447 with 13 homers and 45 RBI in 73 games at Triple-A. He'll also receive an invitation to spring training and it's conceivable he could compete to be the primary backup behind Wilson Ramos.

Nationals released C Chris Snyder.

Snyder was drawing a bit of trade interest before the Nats cut ties with him, so he shouldn't be out of work long. The 32-year-old hit just .176/.295/.308 in 76 games last season with the Astros, but he does have some power.
