Colon appeared in a few games for the Royals last season but spent most of the season at Triple-A, posting a 3.09 ERA, 7.9 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 over 40 games. He's merely organizational depth.

Roman Colon pleaded no contest to an assault charge that stemmed from a locker room scuffle during which he punched a teammate last June.

Lucas County Judge Gene Zmuda found Colon guilty Monday and sentenced him to 200 hours of community service. Zmuda told Colon that he would be teaching disabled and disadvantaged children how to play baseball.

Colon spent all of 2007 on the DL following offseason neck surgery, though he initially resumed pitching in the minors two months into the year. He has the stuff to succeed as a middle reliever, but besides just his usual control problems, he now faces questions about his durability and his attitude.
