Dodgers released RHP Ian Snell.
Snell was knocked around to the tune of an 11.05 ERA over 22 innings with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate last year. The 30-year-old is a longshot to get another shot in the majors at this point. Wed, Mar 28, 2012 12:24:00 PM

Ian Snell has reported to the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Snell signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in late May after initially considering retirement in the wake of a breakup with the Cardinals. It would be foolish to expect much from the veteran right-hander.

Dodgers signed RHP Ian Snell to a minor league contract.

Snell was released by the Cardinals in early April after failing to earn a spot on the big league roster out of spring training. The veteran right-hander was considering retirement at one point and is unlikely to make an impact for the Dodgers.

Cardinals released RHP Ian Snell.

Snell was a non-roster invite during spring training. The Cardinals have released him so that he can pursue other opportunities after reconsidering his recent retirement.

Ian Snell, who said last month that he was going to retire, is considering a return.

Evidently he realized he didn't have the potential to make 6+ figures in his next job endeavor. Snell's agent, Joe Sroba, said Friday that his client would likely make a decision on his future within a week. Returning to the Cardinals, who he was on a minor league deal with before his abrupt retirement, is a possibility.

Ian Snell has decided to retire rather than report to Cardinals minor league camp.

Snell signed a minor league deal with the Cards in January and had an out-clause if he wasn't called up by a certain date, but evidently he doesn't want to wait. The right-hander simply hasn't been the same pitcher since his successful two-year stint from 2006-07 with the Pirates. He's still just 29, but he apparently is through with trying to resurrect his career.

Ian Snell has revealed that he pitched much of 2010 with a sore elbow.

Snell referred to the recurring soreness as "golfer's elbow" and said he felt better after a week off. The right-hander also had oral surgery a month ago after he got hit in the jaw during a workout at the gym, which required him having titanium placed into the left side of his mouth. He is behind his normal offseason routine because of the surgery, having started throwing just a couple weeks ago. Snell, 29, signed a minor league deal with the Cards early in the year hoping that pitching guru Dave Duncan will be able to turn his career around. He's expected to start the season at Triple-A but could get a look as the long man out of the bullpen.

Ian Snell has agreed to begin the 2011 season at Triple-A Memphis.

Snell will be in big league camp this spring, but he will not be competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The Cardinals are likely to use him as emergency depth for their starting rotation. He made only 12 appearances in 2010 because of an injury and carries a poor 4.80 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.

Cardinals signed RHP Ian Snell to a minor league contract.

Snell also receives an invite to camp. The 29-year-old has talent and is going to an organization knowing for cultivating it in lost pitching souls. For that alone, this seems like a good match. Snell posted a 3.76 in 208 innings for the Pirates in 2007 but has been flogged by major league hitters since, going a combined 14-27 with a 5.31 ERA in three seasons. If nothing else, he'll be solid depth at Triple-A.

Mariners sent RHP Ian Snell outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Snell got a bad rap as the Mariners' worst starter, sure he was bad, but he wasn't demonstrably worse than Sunday's starter Ryan Rowland-Smith. Snell excelled in Triple-A when he was in the Pirates organization, so perhaps a stint in Tacoma will do him good. If Seattle needs an emergency starter, they'll know where to find him.

Mariners designated RHP Ian Snell for assignment.

Snell was moved to the bullpen last week after opening the season with a 6.11 ERA over his first eight starts. He surrendered three hits, two walks and four earned runs in two innings of mop-up duty Monday in the Mariners' 3-9 loss to the Cardinals. The 28-year-old may draw a little interest on waivers. If not, he will head to the M's Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.

Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu announced Friday that Ian Snell will be moved to the bullpen.

The writing was on the wall after Snell was touched up for eight runs -- seven earned -- over just 1 2/3 innings against the Rangers on Wednesday. Snell has a 6.11 ERA over eight starts this season and a 5.89 ERA overall. Luke French, who was called up from Triple-A on Sunday, will take his place in the starting rotation. The 24-year-old left-hander was 4-5 with a 5.21 ERA in 12 starts and three relief appearances between the Tigers and Mariners last season.

Ian Snell was ripped for eight runs -- seven earned -- in just 1 2/3 innings of work against the Rangers on Wednesday night.

Snell is 0-5 with a 5.89 ERA and 1.80 WHIP on the season between eight starts and a handful of long relief appearances. He has issued 23 walks while striking out 23 and hasn't gotten out of the sixth inning since opening day.

Ian Snell allowed one run over five innings Saturday against the Padres in his return to the rotation.

Snell was surprisingly sharp, walking just one batter in an 83-pitch outing. One or two more like this and he'll be worth trying in AL-only leagues.
Sun, May 23, 2010 12:33:00 AM

Ian Snell will officially return to the Mariners' starting rotation on Saturday night against the Padres.

Snell was bumped to the bullpen at the end of April when Cliff Lee was activated from the disabled list. He made three relief appearances, surrendering five earned runs in nine innings of mop-up duty. Lefty Ryan Rowland-Smith has been sent to the bullpen to clear room in the rotation.
