Mets signed LHP Tom Gorzelanny to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Gorzelanny mostly pitched in the minors last year, though he did make a handful of relief outings for Cleveland. He also spent a few weeks in the Orioles' organization before getting released. The 34-year-old has had some productive seasons, but none recently. He gives the Mets some organizational depth but little else.

Gorzelanny asked for his release and the Orioles granted it. He signed with the Orioles a couple weeks ago after electing free agency when the Indians optioned him to Triple-A Columbus. The veteran left-hander has registered a miserable 21.00 ERA over seven big league outings this year.

Indians reassigned Tom Gorzelanny to minor league camp.

Indians manager Terry Francona informed Tom Gorzelanny that he will not make the club's Opening Day roster.

Indians signed LHP Tom Gorzelanny to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Gorzelanny had a rough 5.95 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 48 appearances this past season with Detroit. He was an effective long reliever from 2012 until the early part of 2014, when his left shoulder began barking again. It's doubtful he cracks the Indians' Opening Day bullpen next spring, but Gorzelanny will probably make it up to Cleveland at some point. He has held left-handed batters to a .230/.303/.359 line for his career.

Not surprisingly, Gorzelanny cleared waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster, although it's a little surprising that he's decided to accept a Triple-A assignment. He'll try to iron out his issues and earn a spot back in the big league bullpen.

Jason Beck of hears that Tom Gorzelanny's one-year contract with the Tigers is worth around $1 million.

It's a small price to pay in this market. Gorzelanny was limited to just 21 innings with the Brewers last season after making his way back from shoulder surgery, but he has had success in the past and could be a useful arm in Detroit's bullpen if healthy.
