Brewers placed LHP Tom Gorzelanny on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 8, with shoulder tendinitis.
The 30-year-old southpaw has been one of the few dependable arms in the Brewers' bullpen this season, boasting a 2.30 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over his first 15 2/3 innings. Mike Fiers has been recalled to take his place. May 11 - 7:53 PM

Brewers signed LHP Tom Gorzelanny to a two-year, $5.7 million contract.

Gorzelanny has passed his physical, making the deal official. The left-hander reinvented himself as a reliever in 2012, posting a 2.88 ERA across 72 innings this for the Nationals. He also offers the flexibility to be put into a starting role, if needed.

Tom Gorzelanny's new two-year agreement with the Brewers will be worth a total of $6 million.

That's a nice score for the 30-year-old lefty, who has an ugly 4.41 career ERA and 1.45 career WHIP. Gorzelanny reinvented himself in 2012 as a reliever and will serve as the long man out of the Brewers' bullpen in 2013.

The Brewers plan to use left-hander Tom Gorzelanny out of the bullpen during the 2013 season.

That's the role he played in 2012 for the Nationals and the results were great. Gorzelanny agreed on Thursday to a two-year contract with the Brewers. Financial terms of that agreement have not been disclosed by the team.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Brewers have reached agreement on a two-year contract with free agent lefty Tom Gorzelanny.

The deal will be finalized after the 30-year-old southpaw passes a physical on Friday. Gorzelanny registered an excellent 2.88 ERA across 72 innings this past season for the Nationals while holding left-handed batters to a .237/.289/.398 slash line. It's not yet clear whether he's going to start or work out of the bullpen in Milwaukee.

Nationals non-tendered LHP Tom Gorzelanny.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as Gorzelanny pitched very well in relief for the Nationals in 2012, posting a 2.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 62/30 K/BB ratio over 72 innings. He should have no problem finding another job on the free agent market.

Tom Gorzelanny pitched well in a spot start against the Phillies on Tuesday, surrendering one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Gorzelanny racked up five strikeouts in the game, and the only real blemish was a solo homer by Darin Ruf in the fourth inning. It was the left-hander's first start of the season, but Gorzelanny has done nice work for the Nationals in a relief role. He wraps up the regular season with a 4-2 record, one save, a 2.88 ERA and 62/30 K/BB ratio in 72 innings.

Tom Gorzelanny will start Tuesday against the Phillies.

Gio Gonzalez was originally scheduled to start, but the Nationals have adjusted things now that they have clinched the National League East. Gorzelanny has a 2.90 ERA and 57/28 K/BB ratio in 68 1/3 innings over 44 relief appearances this year.

Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Cubs looked into re-acquiring Tom Gorzelanny from the Nationals earlier this month.

It's possible they discussed a swap involving Gorzelanny and Marlon Byrd, who reportedly is on the Nationals' radar, though we would think the Cubs would be looking for some younger players. Gorzelanny is slated for long relief this season in DC, but he's good enough to serve at the back end of someone's rotation.

Tom Gorzelanny was left in to give up seven runs Sunday against the Astros.

It's unusual to see a pitcher hit so hard in his spring debut, but Davey Johnson apparently really wanted him to finish the the fourth inning (he came in with two outs in the third). Gorzelanny walked four and gave up a pair of three-run homers. While he's mostly been a starter in his career, the Nationals are looking at him strictly as a reliever now.

The Nationals and LHP Tom Gorzelanny avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3 million contract.

The Nationals were close to non-tendering Gorzelanny this winter, but they decided against it and will bring him back as a left-handed relief specialist. He posted a 4.03 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 105 innings last year.

The Nationals could non-tender catcher Jesus Flores and left-handers Tom Gorzelanny and Doug Slaten prior to Monday night's deadline, according to Pete Kerzel of MASNSports.com

The 27-year-old Flores batted .209/.253/.314 with one home run over 91 plate appearances with the Nationals this season and is eligible for arbitration for the third time this winter. Washington may elect to go with youngster Derek Norris behind starter Wilson Ramos instead of Flores, who missed nearly two full seasons recovering from shoulder injuries. Gorzelanny had a 4-6 record with a 4.03 ERA in 2011 while swinging between the rotation and bullpen. If he's tendered a contract, he's likely headed back to the 'pen as a swingman. Slaten posted a 4.41 ERA over 31 games this year and missed three months with an elbow injury.

Tom Gorzelanny will be available out of the bullpen as insurance for Chien-Ming Wang's season debut Friday against the Mets.

Gorzy will head to the bullpen for now, but it's possible he could make a start against the Braves next week. The 28-year-old left-hander has a 4.46 ERA and 75/27 K/BB ratio over 82 2/3 innings this season.

Tom Gorzelanny could lose his spot in the Nationals rotation when Chien-Ming Wang (shoulder) joins the big club.

Gorzelanny didn't do himself any favors by getting pummeled for five runs over just three innings Saturday. He has a 5.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in four starts this month. The Nationals, at least publicly, aren't saying if Gorzelanny is, in fact, in trouble. "I’m not really thinking about that right now," manager Davey Johnson said. Wang will make one more rehab start Sunday before being activated.

Tom Gorzelanny lasted just three innings and gave up five runs Saturday against the Dodgers.

Gorzy left his last start with a sprained ankle, but the Nationals deemed him ready to go after a bullpen session. He ended up having his shortest (healthy) outing of the season, and his ERA jumped to 4.46. His trade value might be pretty well shot now.
