White Sox released INF Jeff Keppinger.
Keppinger was designated for assignment by the Pale Hose on May 14 and passed through waivers without drawing a claim. He's been battling shoulder issues since last season and owns a weak .282/.329/.384 career slash line. The 34-year-old is now a free agent. May 21 - 4:09 PM

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said that Jeff Keppinger was designated for assignment because the club didn't want to give him playing time over Conor Gillaspie, Marcus Semien and Gordon Beckham.

Keppinger has dealt with shoulder issues since the beginning of the 2013 season, but Hahn says the veteran infielder is now healthy. He'll clear waivers due to the amount remaining on his contract, but Keppinger shouldn't have trouble latching on somewhere on a minor league deal.

White Sox activated INF Jeff Keppinger from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.

Keppinger is making $4 million this season and is set to make $4.5 million in 2015, so the White Sox are eating a lot of money with this move. The veteran infielder has dealt with shoulder issues since the beginning of last season and the Pale Hose might be convinced that he was never going to be healthy enough again to contribute. They now have an open spot on their 40-man roster.
May 14 - 12:12 PM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) went 2-for-4 in his first minor league rehab game with Double-A Birmingham on Friday.

He's expected to need a lengthy rehab assignment before being cleared to return to the White Sox, after missing most of spring training. He's expected to serve in a super-utility role upon his return.
May 3 - 9:39 AM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Birmingham Friday.

Keppinger was limited to just 16 at-bats in spring training, so his rehab assignment figures to be a relatively lengthy one. He'll likely be used in a utility role upon his return.
May 2 - 3:35 PM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) played three innings in an extended spring training game Wednesday.

A rehab assignment doesn't appear to be far off for the veteran infielder. Keppinger was limited to just 16 at-bats in spring training, so his rehab assignment figures to be a relatively lengthy one.
Apr 10 - 9:41 PM

White Sox placed INF Jeff Keppinger on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with right shoulder inflammation.

Keppinger had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder over the offseason and still feels pain when he throws. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return.
Mar 30 - 12:56 PM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) will begin the season on the disabled list.

As expected. Keppinger had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder over the offseason and still feels pain when he throws. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return.
Mar 26 - 3:19 PM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) conceded Friday that he'll begin the season on the disabled list.

Keppinger doesn't have any structural damage in his right shoulder, but he's yet to throw past 90 feet and has lots of pain when throwing from shorter distances. It's not clear at this point what the next step for him is, but it doesn't sound like he'll be ready for game action anytime soon.
Mar 21 - 12:13 PM

Jeff Keppinger's light throwing session on Tuesday went "OK."

It wasn't the strongest endorsement for his ailing shoulder. The 33-year-old has been able to hit in camp, but is still having difficulty throwing the ball coming off arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Conor Gillaspie is likely to begin the season as the club's starting third baseman.
Mar 19 - 2:10 PM

Jeff Keppinger will test his injured shoulder on Tuesday.

The veteran infielder said Sunday, "I just know it hurts really bad" when asked about his availability for Opening Day. As things currently stand, look for Conor Gilaspie to see most of the early work at third base while Marcus Semien is the favorite to fill in for the injured Gordon Beckham at second.
Mar 16 - 4:42 PM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) will likely start the season on the disabled list if he doesn't recover quickly.

Keppinger had arthroscopic shoulder surgery over the offseason, and he's still working on being able to throw. The 33-year-old has been able to hit, so he's not completely behind his teammates, but the inability to throw hurts his chances of breaking camp with the club, according to White Sox manager Robin Ventura. Even if Keppinger doesn't head north with the team, he'll likely return to the 25-man roster sometime in April.
Mar 12 - 7:23 PM

Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) made his Cactus League debut Tuesday, grounding out as a pinch-hitter.

Keppinger still isn't able to throw full-out as he works his way back from arthroscopic shoulder surgery, but White Sox manager Robin Ventura wants to get him some at-bats. "I was trying to get him going, if he's not going to be able to throw right away," Ventura said. "Gotta slowly get him in there and get some at-bats. I know Thursday he's probably scheduled to DH one of those [split-squad] games."
Mar 4 - 7:39 PM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Saturday that Jeff Keppinger's right shoulder is ‘‘kind of slowly getting better.’’

Keppinger underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in September and is still working to re-gain arm strength. It's not something that should threaten his status for Opening Day. Keppinger will be a utility infielder for the Pale Hose this season.
Mar 2 - 9:12 AM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said that the club will slow Jeff Keppinger's (shoulder) workouts a bit in hopes of rebuilding his arm strength.

Keppinger underwent a cleanup surgery on his shoulder in September and has yet to re-gain his arm strength. The club isn't worried at this point but will monitor the infielder's progress. Keppinger is expected to function as a utility infielder this season.
