Maicer Izturis (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Dunedin on Monday.

Izturis' recovery from a right groin strain has taken a long time, as he suffered the ailment nearly two months ago. He's finally ready for game action again, though, and should be ready for activation from the disabled list in early June when eligible.

Blue Jays transferred INF Maicer Izturis from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Andrew Albers. Izturis has been on the shelf since mid-March with a strained groin and will now be out until at least June.
May 1 - 3:24 PM

Maicer Izturis (groin) will not be activated from the disabled list before the end of the month.

Izturis is still rehabbing his right groin injury and doesn't appear close to being cleared for game action. The Blue Jays will continue to roll with Devin Travis, who has played so well that he seems likely to keep the second base job even after Izturis is ready.
Apr 12 - 12:05 PM

Blue Jays placed INF Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27, with a right groin strain.

Apr 5 - 4:28 PM

Maicer Izturis (groin) will be sidelined for at least 10 days and will miss the start of the season, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said.

Izturis left Friday's game with a right groin strain. With Izturis sidelined, Devon Travis and Ryan Goins suddenly have a great opportunity to win the Opening Day second base gig. Travis, whom the Jays acquired from the Tigers for Anthony Gose this winter, is especially intriguing from a fantasy perspective.

Maicer Izturis (groin) will undergo an MRI on Saturday.

Izturis had to exit Friday's game against the Rays with a right groin strain. The oft-injured infielder is set to start at second base for the Jays if he's healthy, but a trip to the disabled list could open up the position to Ryan Goins or Devon Travis.

Maicer Izturis had to exit Friday's game against the Rays with a right groin strain.

Izturis will be re-evaluated later Friday or Saturday before more is known about his status. The veteran infielder is in line to start at second base for the Jays if he's healthy. Ryan Goins or Devon Travis could be in the mix at second if Izturis needs to start the season on the disabled list.
Mar 20 - 2:09 PM

According to's Gregor Chisholm, Maicer Izturis is the favorite for the Blue Jays' second base gig.

Izturis is recovered from last year's knee injury and showing good defensive range in Jays camp. Ramon Santiago, Steve Tolleson, Ryan Goins, and rookie Devon Travis are also in the running. It's probably a position to avoid this year in mixed fantasy leagues. Travis could carry fantasy value eventually.

Maicer Izturis is expected to miss 4-6 months with a ligament tear in his left knee.

The Blue Jays announced that he suffered a complete tear of the LCL in the knee. It's an awful break for Izturis, who suffered the injury tripping down the dugout steps Sunday. He's expected to receive a second opinion before setting a date on surgery, but it looks like his season could be over. While Izturis was beginning to make his claim on the starting second base job in recent days, Ryan Goins should get most of the starts moving forward.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons on Thursday said he's "not ready to say" that Maicer Izturis has usurped Ryan Goins as the team's starter at second base.

Izturis has made four straight starts at second and is batting .385/.429/.423 over 29 plate appearances this season. Goins provides better defense but has just one hit in his first 20 plate appearances. "I'm not ready to say that," Gibbons said. "Izturis gives you some offence and some defense. Goins is a defensive specialist. We think he's going to hit enough. He's off to a slow start but I expect him to improve on that. But right now we're playing the hot hand (Izturis), the guy that's swinging the bat. If we had more guys in the lineup that were swinging it more ... we might go the other way just for the defense."
