Blue Jays transferred Maicer Izturis to the 60-day disabled list.

This was done merely as a procedural move to clear a spot for Juan Francisco on the 40-man roster. Izturis, sidelined with a ligament tear in his left knee, isn't expected to be ready to return until September.

Maicer Izturis is expected to miss 4-6 months with a ligament tear in his left knee.

The Blue Jays announced that he suffered a complete tear of the LCL in the knee. It's an awful break for Izturis, who suffered the injury tripping down the dugout steps Sunday. He's expected to receive a second opinion before setting a date on surgery, but it looks like his season could be over. While Izturis was beginning to make his claim on the starting second base job in recent days, Ryan Goins should get most of the starts moving forward.

Blue Jays placed INF Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left knee.

Izturis suffered the injury tripping down the dugout steps during Sunday's game against the Orioles. He said that he heard something pop in his left knee, and is very nervous about the pending MRI results. Ryan Goins will continue to see the bulk of the action at second base in his absence.

Maicer Izturis left Sunday's game against the Orioles due to a sprained left knee.

It's not clear how Izturis suffered the injury or how serious it might be. Ryan Goins slid over to second base to replace Izturis, and Robinson Diaz entered the game at shortstop.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons on Thursday said he's "not ready to say" that Maicer Izturis has usurped Ryan Goins as the team's starter at second base.

Izturis has made four straight starts at second and is batting .385/.429/.423 over 29 plate appearances this season. Goins provides better defense but has just one hit in his first 20 plate appearances. "I'm not ready to say that," Gibbons said. "Izturis gives you some offence and some defense. Goins is a defensive specialist. We think he's going to hit enough. He's off to a slow start but I expect him to improve on that. But right now we're playing the hot hand (Izturis), the guy that's swinging the bat. If we had more guys in the lineup that were swinging it more ... we might go the other way just for the defense."

Maicer Izturis went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored versus the Astros on Wednesday.

Izturis is off to a nice 10-for-22 start at the plate, so the Jays could keep running him out to second base against right-handers, maybe even after Jose Reyes gets back. It does cost them a bit defensively, which is why they inserted Jonathan Diaz at shortstop and moved Ryan Goins back to second in the later innings tonight.

Maicer Izturis is starting at second base for the Blue Jays in their season-opener Monday versus the Rays.

Ryan Goins is expected to serve as the Blue Jays' regular second baseman this year, but Izturis is getting the start on Opening Day. The rest of Toronto's lineup for Monday's opener: SS Jose Reyes, LF Melky Cabrera, RF Jose Bautista, 1B Edwin Encarnacion, DH Dioner Navarro, 3B Brett Lawrie, CF Colby Rasmus, 2B Maicer Izturis, C Josh Thole. R.A. Dickey is on the mound.

Blue Jays transferred INF Maicer Izturis from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Chien-Ming Wang on the 40-man roster. Izturis was placed on the DL Thursday and is no longer a candidate to return this season.

Blue Jays placed INF Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle.

Izturis suffered the injury on Tuesday and wasn't making swift enough progress. He should be ready for activation right around the time that he is first eligible.

Maicer Izturis could be placed on the disabled list if his sprained left ankle doesn't improve in a hurry.

Izturis was injury during Tuesday's game and was still sporting a noticeable limp Wednesday. He'll be re-evaluated on Thursday before a decision is made on his roster status.

Maicer Izturis had a nice day at the dish in Friday's loss to the Rays, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.

The veteran infielder has had a disappointing season overall, hitting just .238/.292/.315 with five homers, 31 RBI and five steals. He remains irrelevant in the majority of fantasy formats.

Maicer Izturis went 3-for-4 in the Blue Jays' win over the Orioles on Saturday.

Izturis looked to be in line for less playing time with Brett Lawrie returning from the disabled list, but Lawrie's migration to second base has opened the door for Izturis to see more starts at third base. The 32-year-old is hitting .254/.294/.351 in 78 games this year.

Maicer Izturis went 3-for-4 with a double in the Blue Jays' loss to the Indians on Tuesday.

Izturis is on a bit of a roll of late, as he's now hit safely in six straight games while raising his average from .228 to .251 in that span. But with Brett Lawrie inching closer to returning, Izturis' time as an everyday player will end soon.
