Red Sox released OF Josh Kroeger.
Kroeger was hitting just .244/.303/.429 with nine homers and a .732 OPS over 64 games with Triple-A Pawtucket this season. Now 29 years old, the 2000 fourth-round pick hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2004 as a member of the Diamondbacks. Thu, Jun 28, 2012 04:13:00 PM

Marlins signed OF Josh Kroeger to a minor league contract.

He received an invited to camp. The 27-year-old has good power but is nothing more than organizational depth.

Josh Kroeger drove in all of the runs as a White Sox split-squad beat the Cubs 4-3 on Thursday.

Kroeger took out some frustrations on the team that declined to give him a September callup after he hit .307/.373/.514 for Triple-A Iowa last season. The White Sox wouldn't appear to have a spot for the 26-year-old either, but he'll be an option in an outfield corner if Jermaine Dye or Carlos Quentin gets hurt.

Free agent Josh Kroeger went 5-for-5 with a homer and a double Saturday to raise his VWL average to .413.

Kroeger is second to Oscar Salazar in the eight-team league with a 1271 OPS, second to Brendan Katin with seven homers in 75 at-bats and second to Jesus Guzman with 23 RBI. He does lead the circuit with 16 walks.

Josh Kroeger hit his third homer of the Venezuelan Winter League season on Saturday.

Kroeger made his major league debut as a 22-year-old with the Diamondbacks in Sept. 2004, but he hasn't been back since. He hit .307/.373/.514 with 15 homers and 12 steals for Triple-A Iowa this year, but since that didn't earn him a callup from the Cubs, he'll be a minor league free agent again. Given that he's a left-handed hitter with good power and still some room for growth, he should have more than a few teams interested in him. It won't hurt that he's started off hitting .500/.649/.923 in eight games in the VWL.

Josh Kroeger went 2-for-6 with a homer for the Aguilas of the Venezuelan Winter League on Tuesday.

Kroeger, trying to shake off a very rough season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, is batting .300/.386/.420 in 50 at-bats. He cleared waivers after being removed from the Phillies' 40-man roster in September, so it looks like he'll be back in Triple-A with the team next year.

Phillies sent outfielder Josh Kroeger outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

It was a good idea, especially since the recent Phillies teams have never had to worry about possessing more prospects than 40-man roster spots. Still, Kroeger was one waiver claim that didn't work out. The former Diamondback hit just .231/.270/.370 for the Red Barons. After two straight bad years, all Kroeger really has going for him is his age. He just turned 24 last week.

Phillies optioned OF Josh Kroeger and C Carlos Ruiz to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Kroeger was being talked about as a potential fifth outfielder, but because he's just 23, he needs to be playing regularly in Triple-A. Ruiz's early departure is surprising, but it's probably just because the Phillies want him to get more at-bats in minor league games. He played for Panama in the WBC, so he hasn't had a lot of action to date.

Josh Kroeger hit a two-run homer Thursday and is 3-for-10 with a couple of walks this spring.

The Phillies are considering carrying Kroeger as the last man on their bench, but since he's just 23, it would make a lot more sense to have him play regularly in Triple-A. Better bench options will come available at the end of the spring.

Phillies claimed outfielder Josh Kroeger off waivers from the Diamondbacks.

We really like the pickup. Kroeger was a big disappointment in 2005, but he's just 23 now and he had some outstanding minor league numbers in 2003 and '04, though he was in very good environments for hitters at the time. He could become a solid regular in an outfield corner in a year or two. That still expendable in Arizona, what with Carlos Quentin and some other quality prospects on the way, but the team should have dropped Edgar Gonzalez from the 40-man roster first.

Diamondbacks optioned OF Josh Kroeger, RHP Justin Wechsler, RHP Dustin Nippert, RHP Enrique Gonzales and OF Reggie Abercrombie to Triple-A Tucson; reassigned RHP Phil Stockman, RHP Casey Daigle, C-INF Corey Myers, 1B Alan Zinter, C Juan Brito and OF Doug DeVore to minor league camp.

Kroeger goes before either Carlos Quentin or Conor Jackson, illustrating just how he fits into the team's plans. A smart organization might be able to steal him away for a decent young arm at some point. Myers, who was 7-for-13, also has a right to be disappointed. He seems about ready to become a decent bench player.

Josh Kroeger homered and doubled for Los Mochis of the Mexican Pacific League yesterday.

Kroeger is batting .333 with two homers, two doubles and four walks in five games. Since he struggled for the Diamondbacks last month, he's probably not going to enter 2005 with much of a chance of winning a starting job. However, he will have to get his opportunity eventually.

Diamondbacks recalled outfielder Josh Kroeger from Triple-A Tucson.

Kroeger is getting called up earlier than expected because of Quinton McCracken's injury. The Diamondbacks should forget about McCracken and play Kroeger regularly for the rest of the season. If it happens, the 22-year-old will have some value. He can hit for average and power.

Josh Kroeger went 4-for-5 and hit two homers for Triple-A Tucson yesterday.

The Diamondbacks do have better outfield prospects in Double-A, but Kroeger shouldn't be overlooked. The 21-year-old is batting .330/.371/.584 in 51 games for Tuscon. He had almost the same numbers before his promotion (.331/.393/.588 for El Paso). Kroeger will probably join the Diamondbacks next month and take playing time away from Quinton McCracken.

Josh Kroeger made his debut for Triple-A Tucson yesterday and went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Kroeger hit .331/.393/.588 in 245 AB for Double-A El Paso. If he plays as well for Tucson, the Diamondbacks will have another good reason not to re-sign Danny Bautista.
