The Marlins cleared a couple spots on their 40-man roster Wednesday, as they anticipate adding a couple prospects in advance of December's Rule 5 Draft. Murphy, 29, batted .219/.281/.379 with three home runs and a .661 OPS in 129 plate appearances with the Fish this year.

Manager Ozzie Guillen said that Murphy wouldn't return this season, but apparently he hasn't been shut down. Look for him in a platoon role with Greg Dobbs.

Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said Friday that Donnie Murphy (concussion) isn't expected to return this season.

Murphy suffered a concussion Wednesday when he was inadvertently hit in the head on a slide by Phillies' second baseman Chase Utley. The 29-year-old is batting .209/.274/.366 with three home runs and a .640 OPS in 125 plate appearances with the Marlins this year.

Murphy missed a few weeks with a hamstring strain. He could see some playing time at second base with Emilio Bonifacio moving back to center field full-time.

Donnie Murphy (hamstring) went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and five RBI on Wednesday in his second rehab game with High-A Jupiter.

Murphy had a sacrifice fly, an RBI double and a three-run homer. He's 4-for-8 over his first two rehab games and figures to rejoin the Marlins within the next few days. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since early August with a left hamstring strain.

Marlins placed INF Donnie Murphy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 4, with a left hamstring strain.

The move clears a spot for Giancarlo Stanton's return from the disabled list. Murphy suffered the injury during Friday's game and figures to be sidelined until later this month. The 28-year-old is batting just .194 (13-for-67) with three homers in 33 games with the Marlins this season.

Donnie Murphy hit a solo homer on Tuesday, accounting for all of the Marlins' runs in a loss to the Braves.

While Murphy has displayed impressive power with his three homers and eight RBI in just 59 at-bats, he's struggling to make consistent contact and hitting only .169. The infielder probably isn't worth the gamble in standard fantasy leagues.

He'll provide infield depth with Hanley Ramirez out of the picture and could see a decent number of starts at third base. Murphy has batted .302/.400/.726 with 13 homers at New Orleans this season.

He'll take the roster spot of Hanley Ramirez, who was traded to the Dodgers on Wednesday. Murphy figures to split time with Donovan Solano at third base. Greg Dobbs should also see some playing time. None are worth a look outside of NL-only leagues.
