White Sox released C George Kottaras.

The well-traveled veteran catcher was batting .247/.403/.505 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in 31 games for the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox. Kottaras should be able to latch on with another club rather quickly.
Aug 3 - 3:15 PM

George Kottaras homered twice Sunday in a win for Triple-A Charlotte.

He plated four runs with his first career grand slam. The 32-year-old now has a whopping 12 RBI over his last two starts. Kottaras isn't a prospect or even an everyday player, but he's been a dominant force for the Knights, providing a .340 average across 53 at-bats this season. He played 18 games in the majors last year but has yet to make an appearance in 2015.

White Sox reassigned C George Kottaras, OF Engel Beltre and RHPs Jairo Asencio and Arcenio Leon to minor league camp.

Kottaras was in camp competing for the team's backup job behind the plate, but was unable to beat out Geovany Soto. He'll serve as additional depth for the White Sox at Triple-A Charlotte.

White Sox signed C George Kottaras to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Kottaras hopped between three different organizations in 2014, appearing in only 18 games at the major league level. He'll be depth at catcher for the Pale Hose.

Blue Jays sent C George Kottaras outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

He was already set for free agency but now will get an early jump to the market. Kottaras had three homers in 18 games for the Indians, Cardinals and Blue Jays this season.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of C George Kottaras from Triple-A Buffalo.

Kottaras latched on with the Blue Jays last month after he was released by the Cardinals. The 31-year-old will serve as a third catcher down the stretch.

Blue Jays signed C George Kottaras to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Kottaras was released by the Cardinals at the end of July after they signed A.J. Pierzynski to be their Yadier Molina fill-in. Kottaras, 31, is a weak .216/.326/.414 career hitter in 853 major league plate appearances.

Cardinals released C George Kottaras.

Kottaras had been designated for assignment over the weekend following the A.J. Pierzynski signing. He cleared waivers and is now free to sign on elsewhere.

Cardinals designated C George Kottaras for assignment.

The veteran backstop became expendable with Friday's acquisition of A.J. Pierzynski. He appeared in just four games during his brief stay in St. Louis. He shouldn't have much difficulty finding another organization willing to take a shot on him.

Cardinals claimed C George Kottaras off waivers from the Indians.

The Cards needed some depth at catcher following the Yadier Molina (thumb) injury, and Kottaras makes sense as a stop-gap. The 31-year-old is a career .216/.326/.415 hitter but did slug three homers over 10 games with the Tribe. He figures to share time with Tony Cruz while Molina is out, with Audry Perez heading back to Triple-A Memphis. Kottaras won't officially report until Saturday.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that George Kottaras is "of interest" to the Cardinals.

The Cards, of course, are looking for a catcher following Yadier Molina's thumb surgery. Goold notes that Kottaras, who was designated for assignment by the Indians earlier this week, "has done well offensively" and "has a solid reputation in the game and experience at the position." Another catcher who could interest the Cardinals is John Buck, who was also just designated for assignment. They could also consider a trade for Kurt Suzuki. Goold says the club does not have interest in A.J. Pierzynski.

Indians designated C George Kottaras for assignment.

Kottaras was 6-for-21 (.286) with three home runs in his nearly six-week stay with the Indians. The 31-year-old catcher could draw some interest on waivers.

George Kottaras went 2-for-4 and hit his third homer in three starts Monday against Rangers.

Kottaras was making just his second appearance since being recalled on May 27. He also played in one game for the Indians in early May while Yan Gomes was out and hit two homers in that one. So, in three games this season, he has three homers and three walks, plus a lone single. Which is pretty good for a guy who has been up for grabs three times since the end of last season. Hopefully, the Indians keep him around as Yan Gomes' backup and just forget about having Carlos Santana catch again.

Indians purchased the contract of C George Kottaras from Triple-A Columbus.

Kottaras will provide depth at catcher for the Tribe while Carlos Santana recovers from a concussion. Kottaras hit two homers in a short stay with Cleveland earlier this month but is doubtful to hold fantasy relevance.
