Cardinals designated C George Kottaras for assignment.

The veteran backstop became expendable with Friday's acquisition of A.J. Pierzynski. He appeared in just four games during his brief stay in St. Louis. He shouldn't have much difficulty finding another organization willing to take a shot on him.
Jul 26 - 11:18 AM

Cardinals claimed C George Kottaras off waivers from the Indians.

The Cards needed some depth at catcher following the Yadier Molina (thumb) injury, and Kottaras makes sense as a stop-gap. The 31-year-old is a career .216/.326/.415 hitter but did slug three homers over 10 games with the Tribe. He figures to share time with Tony Cruz while Molina is out, with Audry Perez heading back to Triple-A Memphis. Kottaras won't officially report until Saturday.
Jul 11 - 1:48 PM

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that George Kottaras is "of interest" to the Cardinals.

The Cards, of course, are looking for a catcher following Yadier Molina's thumb surgery. Goold notes that Kottaras, who was designated for assignment by the Indians earlier this week, "has done well offensively" and "has a solid reputation in the game and experience at the position." Another catcher who could interest the Cardinals is John Buck, who was also just designated for assignment. They could also consider a trade for Kurt Suzuki. Goold says the club does not have interest in A.J. Pierzynski.
Jul 11 - 10:13 AM

Indians designated C George Kottaras for assignment.

Kottaras was 6-for-21 (.286) with three home runs in his nearly six-week stay with the Indians. The 31-year-old catcher could draw some interest on waivers.
Jul 7 - 2:45 PM

George Kottaras went 2-for-4 and hit his third homer in three starts Monday against Rangers.

Kottaras was making just his second appearance since being recalled on May 27. He also played in one game for the Indians in early May while Yan Gomes was out and hit two homers in that one. So, in three games this season, he has three homers and three walks, plus a lone single. Which is pretty good for a guy who has been up for grabs three times since the end of last season. Hopefully, the Indians keep him around as Yan Gomes' backup and just forget about having Carlos Santana catch again.
Jun 10 - 12:35 AM

Indians purchased the contract of C George Kottaras from Triple-A Columbus.

Kottaras will provide depth at catcher for the Tribe while Carlos Santana recovers from a concussion. Kottaras hit two homers in a short stay with Cleveland earlier this month but is doubtful to hold fantasy relevance.
May 27 - 4:18 PM

Nick Camino of WTAM in Cleveland reports that George Kottaras is back with the Indians.

No official announcement from the team yet, but this could be an indication that Carlos Santana is DL-bound or at least will be sidelined for a few days. Kottaras hit two homers in a brief stint with the Indians earlier this month.
May 27 - 3:40 PM

George Kottaras has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Columbus.

Kottaras had the option of declaring free agency but has decided to remain in the organization. He'll provide the Tribe with some depth in the minors.
May 13 - 9:15 PM

Indians sent C George Kottaras outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Kottaras homered twice in his lone start for the Tribe before being designated for assignment. He has the option of declaring free agency.
May 11 - 3:07 PM

Indians designated C George Kottaras for assignment.

Cleveland needed the roster spot for starter Josh Tomlin, who will pitch Tuesday night against the Twins. Kottaras joined the Indians on Saturday and slugged two solo home runs Sunday, but there is no longer a need for him with Yan Gomes back from paternity leave.
May 6 - 4:15 PM

George Kottaras smacked a pair of solo homers in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.

Kottaras was called up earlier Sunday because Yan Gomes went on paternity leave, and he wound up going deep in each of his first two at-bats as an Indian. He also drew a walk. Despite the big showing, Kottaras still seems likely to be sent back down in a couple days when Gomes returns.
May 4 - 4:12 PM

Indians purchased the contract of catcher George Kottaras from Triple-A Columbus.

Kottaras was expected to be the Cubs' backup catcher this year, but he was let go in spring training and signed with the Indians. He was just 2-for-25 with 11 strikeouts in nine games for Columbus, so it'll be interesting to see if he gets any starts while Yan Gomes is away.
May 3 - 2:40 PM

Indians signed C George Kottaras to a minor league contract.

The veteran backstop isn't likely to stay in the minor leagues for long, and could soon work his way into becoming the primary backup to Yan Gomes, with Carlos Santana functioning as the team's primary third baseman.
Mar 30 - 11:10 PM

Cubs released C George Kottaras.

Kottaras was projected to begin the year as Chicago's backup catcher, but the opportunity will now presumably fall to either Eli Whiteside or John Baker. We're guessing the 30-year-old will not be out of work for long.
