Waldrop had a second MRI on his right elbow Monday that revealed no structural damage. The Twins have yet to indicate how many rehab outings he'll need, or whether they plan to add him to the major league roster. Waldrop could return sometime in early June if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Waldrop will be able to start throwing sliders during Wednesday's session. He's been nursing a strained elbow since spring training but seems to be progressing nicely lately and could be ready by early May if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Waldrop played catch from 120 feet Thursday without feeling any lingering pain or discomfort in his previously-strained right elbow. "Everything is moving in the right direction," he told reporters after the workout. "So we'll take it a day at a time, but it's going well so far." The right-hander should be ready by early May.

Kyle Waldrop will be temporarily shut down due to right elbow inflammation.

It's too bad, as Waldrop has put himself in a good position to make the Twins' bullpen this spring by allowing just one run over six innings while striking out three and walking none. The timeline for his return is not yet known.

Twins purchased the contract of RHP Kyle Waldrop from Triple-A Rochester.

The 2004 first-round pick went 5-5 with a 3.87 ERA in 56 relief appearances in the minors this year. He has a 3.63 career ERA and 1.28 WHIP over seven minor league seasons in the Twins organization. It's been several years since he was viewed as one of the Twins' top pitching prospects, but Waldrop has the next three weeks to show that he deserves a look in spring training next year.
