Padres manager Bud Black said he'd like Cameron Maybin (wrist) to get around 30 rehab at-bats.

Maybin hit in the cage and on the field before Monday's game and will do the same thing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Assuming it goes well, he'll begin a rehab assignment on Friday. Maybin could return before the end of the month.

Maybin was recently cleared to resume hitting activities and hasn't had any setbacks. On the disabled list since April 17, he should be close to making his return. Maybin was hitting just .091/.167/.121 with no home runs prior to the injury but offers plenty of fantasy potential when healthy.

Cameron Maybin (wrist) hit in the batting cages on Thursday.

It's the first time he's done so since he landed on the disabled list last month with a right wrist impingement. The Padres aren't sure what the next step is for the outfielder, but Maybin said the session went "way, way better" than he expected. "I'm excited," Maybin said. "It's tough watching, but it's also been great watching how great the team has been playing. I'm eager to get back in the mix."

Maybin has been on the disabled list since May 16 with an impingement of his right wrist. The injury likely contributed to his slow start, as he was hitting .091/.167/.121 with no homers, no steals and one RBI through his first 10 games. The Padres have yet to disclose a clear timetable for his return.

Maybin has been diagnosed with an impingement of his right wrist, an injury that he's dealt with off and on all season. He's also had past wrist issues. The outfielder will be shut down for a bit and could be fitted with a splint.

Padres placed OF Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16, with a right wrist impingement.

Maybin has dealt with wrist issues over the past two seasons, and obviously the Padres felt it was best to hold him out for at least a couple weeks after his most recent flare-up. Chris Denorfia and Will Venable should handle center field while Maybin is sidelined.

Cameron Maybin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.

Maybin dealt with more wrist issues early on in spring training, but he's now hitting .412 over his first 17 at-bats. He should be a nice speed option again in fantasy leagues this season, but we're still waiting for that power potential to come around.
