Cameron Maybin is dealing with an injury to the right side of his rib cage.
A rib popped out and had to be put back in place, per George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press. That explains why Maybin has been absent from the Tigers' starting lineup for the last three games. He did say he's feeling better Tuesday and this doesn't sound like it's going to be a disabled list situation. Jul 26 - 4:39 PM

Cameron Maybin is absent from the Tigers' starting lineup Monday against the Red Sox.

Andrew Romine will start in center field and bat ninth versus Boston lefty Drew Pomeranz. Maybin was also held out of action Sunday, so there could be an injury.
Jul 25 - 3:43 PM

Cameron Maybin is not in the Tigers' lineup Sunday.

It appears to be a normal day of rest. Andrew Romine is in center field Sunday, while Jose Iglesias has moved up to the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
Jul 3 - 10:07 AM

Cameron Maybin went 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run double in the ninth inning that capped an eight-run inning for the visitors, as the Tigers beat the Rays 10-7 on Thursday.

Maybin led off the ninth inning with a single, and five runs later, he finished off the Rays with a bases-loaded double that put the Tigers ahead for good. During a modest six-game hitting streak, Maybin is 11-for-24 with three doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored. He's got 20 RBI and 25 runs scored in 39 games total, and the 29-year-old is hitting .359/.413/.428 on the season.
Jul 1 - 12:51 AM

Cameron Maybin continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 night at the plate on Friday.

All three hits were singles. He also drew a walk. Maybin has hit only one home run in 34 games, but his .821 OPS is by far the best of his career. He is now batting .352/.413/.408 in his first season in the American League since his brief debut with the Tigers in 2007.
Jun 24 - 10:52 PM

Cameron Maybin is sitting out Thursday.

Andrew Romine will start in center field and bat ninth versus Mariners right-hander Adrian Sampson.
Jun 23 - 9:57 AM

Cameron Maybin went 2-for-5 with a two-run triple and a run scored Monday against the Mariners.

The fourth-inning triple was surprisingly the first of the year for the speedy Maybin, who now has 25 for his career. He's got 13 RBI and 19 runs scored in 30 games since coming off the disabled list, and the 29-year-old is batting a cool .354/.411/.416. If he keeps his spot near the top of the Tigers order, those counting stats should continue to swell as the season wears on.
Jun 21 - 12:02 AM

Cameron Maybin was ejected from Sunday's game against the Royals for arguing a called third strike with home plate umpire Gabe Morales.

Maybin thought that he had drawn a one-out walk in the 11th inning and took exception with the call to ring him up instead. Andrew Romine replaced him in center field as the Tigers don't have any other true outfielders on their roster.
Jun 19 - 5:25 PM

Cameron Maybin (quad) singled and scored a run in his return to the lineup Saturday.

Maybin missed a couple games with a tight left quad. He's batting .359/.416/.408 this season for the Tigers.
Jun 19 - 8:11 AM

Cameron Maybin is dealing with left quad tightness.

He tweaked it in Monday's loss to the White Sox. Maybin was held out of the lineup Tuesday but returned to an 0-for-4 performance on Wednesday. The Tigers believe it's only a short-term issue. Detroit will go with Justin Upton in center field and Mike Aviles in left for Thursday's series opener against Kansas City.
Jun 16 - 5:34 PM

Cameron Maybin is not in the Tigers' lineup Thursday against the Royals.

Justin Upton, who usually mans left field, will get a rare start in center with Mike Aviles getting the nod in left. This marks the second time in three games Maybin has been out of the lineup. Perhaps it's related to the wrist injury that cost him six weeks earlier this year.. The 29-year-old has been a solid contributor when healthy, batting .364 with six steals in 27 games.
Jun 16 - 4:44 PM

Cameron Maybin is not in the Tigers' starting lineup Tuesday against the White Sox.

It looks like he's just getting a breather. Andrew Romine will handle center field and bat ninth. Maybin did miss a few games with a wrist injury last week but looked fine last night when he went 2-for-6 with a pair of singles.
Jun 14 - 5:15 PM

Cameron Maybin (wrist) went 1-for-4 in his return to action on Friday.

Maybin put his wheels to use, netting a bunt single in his final at-bat after starting the day 0-for-3. He had sat out on Tuesday and Wednesday after receiving a cortisone shot to alleviate the inflammation in his hand and wrist. He is off to a fantastic start in 2016, slashing .410/.471/.474 with a homer, nine RBI and four stolen bases in 88 plate appearances.
Jun 11 - 8:44 AM

Cameron Maybin (wrist) is expected to be in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.

Left wrist and hand discomfort have nagged Maybin since June 1, but he received a cortisone shot to deal with the inflammation on Monday and has taken days of rest Tuesday and Wednesday. A return for this weekend's series against the Yankees should come to fruition, unless Maybin suffers a setback over the next day-plus.
Jun 8 - 7:30 PM

Cameron Maybin (wrist) is out again Wednesday.

Maybin has been bothered by discomfort in his left hand and wrist for the past week. It's not believed to be serious, but the Tigers didn't want to risk making the issue worse in Wednesday's matinee game against the Blue Jays. Maybin should be ready to rock Friday night at Yankee Stadium. Detroit is off Thursday.
