Angels acquired OF Cameron Maybin from the Tigers for RHP Victor Alcantara; exercised Maybin's $9 million club option for 2017.
The deal is now official. Maybin projects to play left field with his new team, which is noteworthy when you consider that the Angels had a major-league worst .584 OPS out of left field this past season. Even if Maybin can't duplicate the .316/.384/.319 batting line he put up in 2016, he should be a marked improvement. At least when he's healthy enough to play. Nov 3 - 6:50 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels will acquire Cameron Maybin from the Tigers.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers will receive right-hander Victor Alcantara in return. The Angels are expected to pick up the $9 million club option on Maybin's contract. The 29-year-old has primarily played center field in his career, but advanced metrics haven't been kind to him there over the past couple of years and the Angels already have some guy named Mike Trout. Maybin figures to move to left field, which has been a very tough spot for the Angels to fill recently. Health is always the big question with him, but he has the potential to be a strong addition.

Jason Beck of MLB.com hears that the Tigers are working on a potential "sign-and-trade scenario" involving outfielder Cameron Maybin.

Maybin's contract includes a $9 million club option for 2017, so he has some appeal as a trade chip. Apparently the Tigers are making progress on finding a taker. JaCoby Jones gives Detroit a potential low-cost replacement in center field. Maybin was limited to just 94 games this season due to injuries, but he batted .316/.384/.319 with four homers and 15 steals.
Nov 3 - 6:18 PM

Cameron Maybin went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts as the Tigers fell to the Braves in Atlanta in Sunday, eliminating them from playoff contention.

The Tigers entire offense seemed to be pressing the entire weekend, and Julio Teheran was able to carve them up with any incident on Sunday, combining with a pair of relievers to shut out the Tigers. Maybin finished the season slashing an impressive .316/.384/.319 with four homers and 43 RBI but was limited to only 94 games due to a variety of injuries.

Sep 16 - 3:29 PM

Cameron Maybin is out of the Tigers' lineup Thursday due to lingering thumb discomfort.

Maybin jammed his thumb in late August and missed a full week of action, and he told reporters Thursday morning that he felt renewed discomfort during his at-bats Wednesday night. He could need regular days off down the stretch. JaCoby Jones is starting in center field and batting eighth Thursday afternoon against the Twins.

Sep 2 - 4:52 PM

Cameron Maybin remains out of the Tigers' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon.

Maybin jammed his left thumb Monday while attempting a steal of second base. MRI results turned up negative for any structural damage and he's considered day-to-day with a bad bruise. JaCoby Jones will start in center field and bat seventh on Wednesday versus White Sox ace Chris Sale.
Aug 31 - 10:09 AM

An MRI taken Tuesday on Cameron Maybin's injured left thumb showed no major damage.

Maybin tweaked the previously-sprained thumb Monday while attempting to steal second base in the fifth inning and was held out of action Tuesday. He probably won't play Wednesday either, but this shouldn't be an extended absence because it's just a bruise. Great news for the Tigers.
Aug 30 - 10:45 PM

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that Cameron Maybin will go for an MRI on his left thumb on Tuesday.

Maybin exited Monday's game with what was termed as a bruised left thumb. The Tigers are calling him day-to-day after X-rays came back negative, but obviously there's reason for concern given that he recently had a stint on the disabled list with the same thumb. More should be known on his status on Tuesday.
Aug 29 - 11:19 PM

Cameron Maybin exited Monday's game against the White Sox with an apparent injury to his left thumb.

Uh oh. Maybin made his return last weekend after missing a couple of weeks with a left thumb sprain and it appears that he aggravated the injury while attempting to steal second base in the fifth inning. The Tigers should pass along an update soon. Tyler Collins replaced Maybin in the lineup.
