Athletics released OF Jeff Fiorentino.
Fiorentino hasn't played in the majors since 2009, and was hitting just .186 through 46 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento. He's free to sign with any other organization, and will have to do so if he plans to continue his career. Sat, Jun 2, 2012 04:56:00 PM

Athletics signed OF Jeff Fiorentino to a minor league contract.

Fiorentino played in Japan in 2010 and has a .270/.341/.324 batting line over 173 major league plate appearances. Now age 27, he'll likely serve as organizational depth in Oakland's farm system.

Braves acquired OF Jeff Fiorentino from the Orioles for cash considerations.

Fiorentino, 28, played in Japan last season and has a .270/.341/.324 batting line over 173 major league plate appearances between the Orioles and Athletics. He's expected to serve as organizational depth at the Double-A level.

Orioles signed OF Jeff Fiorentino to a minor league contract.

The 27-year-old was not given an invitation to spring training and will merely serve as organizational depth this season for the O's. Fiorentino batted just .246 with two home runs over 44 games in Japan last year.

Jeff Fiorentino went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk Sunday in his first start since 2006.

Fiorentino looked like he'd be at least a nice reserve until the Orioles rushed him to the majors at age 22 in 2005. He received 83 at-bats with Baltimore over the next two seasons, spent all of 2007 in the minors and then served stints in the Cincinnati and Oakland systems before rejoining the Orioles in 2008. He's just 26 now, so he still has a chance to make it as a fourth or fifth outfielder. The Orioles should be able to find a couple of starts per week for him with Adam Jones down.

Orioles recalled outfielder Jeff Fiorentino from Triple-A Norfolk.

Fiorentino hasn't appeared in the major leagues since last season, when he found his way into two games with Oakland. The 26-year-old hit .299/.375/.487 with 12 home runs and 67 RBI in 388 at-bats between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this season. He'll provide outfield depth.

Orioles claimed outfielder Jeff Fiorentino off waivers from the Athletics.

Fiorentino rejoins his original organization five months after being dumped to make room for an inferior property in Chris Roberson. He'll head to Triple-A Norfolk and try to work his way back to the majors. He still has a chance to put together a fair career as a reserve.

Athletics designated outfielder Jeff Fiorentino for assignment.

The A's needed a 40-man roster spot for Eric Chavez, and Fiorentino was the best candidate to go. He's been on Triple-A Sacramento's DL with a fractured nose and cheekbone.

Jeff Fiorentino is expected to miss four weeks after being hit with a throw in the face at Triple-A.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Fiorentino underwent surgery Monday after suffering "a fractured nose and several small fractures in his cheek."

The Athletics will bring Jeff Fiorentino, Justin Knoedler, Brooks Conrad and Gregorio Petit as extra players with them to Japan.

The A's will have able to have a 28-man roster for their two official games in Japan, though three players will be designated inactive for each game. Since those three inactives figure to be starting pitchers, they'll have a deep bench to choose from in the contests. None of the players here are likely to be on the team for the first game in the U.S., though Fiorentino may still have a slight chance of beating out Ryan Sweeney for a bench spot.

Athletics claimed outfielder Jeff Fiorentino off waivers from the Reds.

Another left-handed hitting outfielder for the A's. The 24-year-old Fiorentino should be nice to have around as depth, though he belongs in Triple-A right now. He hit .282/.346/.445 for Double-A Bowie last season.

Reds designated outfielder Jeff Fiorentino for assignment.

It's surprising Drew Anderson wasn't the first to go of the Reds' recent waiver claims. Fiorentino will have to accept an assignment to the minors if he clears waivers this time.

Reds claimed outfielder Jeff Fiorentino off waivers from the Orioles.

A pretty good pickup. The 24-year-old Fiorentino hit .282/.346/.445 for Double-A Bowie last season. He's more likely to make it as a long-term reserve than Chris Roberson, the player that took his roster spot in Baltimore. The Reds will likely make him part of their outfield at Triple-A Louisville, but they might try him as a bench player once Ryan Freel or Ken Griffey Jr. gets hurt.

Orioles designated outfielder Jeff Fiorentino for assignment.

We'd still have taken our chances with Fiorentino over Chris Roberson, but it's not going to make much of a difference either way. The 24-year-old Fiorentino hit .282/.346/.445 for Double-A Bowie last season. His versatility in the outfield and left-handed bat could still make him a valuable reserve someday.

Jeff Fiorentino went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk Thursday for Grand Canyon of the Arizona Fall League.

With a .352/.470/.574 line in 54 at-bats, Fiorentino has been one of the best players in Arizona. He struggled with injuries at Double-A Bowie last season, so his stock is down from where it was a couple of years ago. Still, he has a chance to become a very good fourth outfielder. The Orioles will probably bump him up to Triple-A to begin 2007.
