Nationals signed INF Reid Brignac to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Brignac, 32, spent all of last season at Triple-A in the Astros organization, batting .251/.326/.411 with 13 home runs. He's a career .219/.264/.309 hitter over parts of nine seasons in the majors and is merely a depth addition. Jan 29 - 6:30 PM

The Astros informed Reid Brignac on Saturday that he won't be making the Opening Day roster.

He made a case for a reserve role with a strong showing in Cactus League play, hitting .326/.370/.512 with a homer and 10 RBI in 43 at-bats. He'll remain on the major league side of camp for now.

Reid Brignac will attempt this spring to become a switch-hitter.

Brignac has been a left-handed batter his entire career, but he's hit righty against southpaws so far this spring. "I'm going to try it out this year," Brignac said. "It was something that I just thought long and hard about and I was like, 'OK, I'm going to try and see how it goes.' I used to switch-hit when I was younger off and on, nothing consistent. I could always handle the bat right-handed." Brignac is a 31-year-old who is joining his seventh organization this spring, so he might as well give switch-hitting a shot. Even if it works out, he's a long shot to crack the Opening Day roster.

Astros signed INF Reid Brignac to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 30-year-old spent the 2016 season in the Braves' organization, slashing .264/.361/.394 with eight homers and 42 RBI in 102 games at Triple-A Gwinnett. He'll add organizational depth to the Astros but is a long shot to crack the Opening Day roster in a reserve role.

Braves sent INF Reid Brignac outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Brignac passed through waivers after being designated for assignment on Friday. The 30-year-old will serve as organizational depth in Triple-A.

Braves re-assigned INF Reid Brignac to minor league camp.

This move comes as a bit of a surprise, as the 30-year-old infielder has had a nice spring by slashing .294/.381/.471 with a homer and eight RBI. It appears that Gordon Beckham will stay on in the reserve infielder role while Brignac functions as additional depth at Triple-A for the time being.

Reid Brignac (leg) was scratched from Thursday's game against the Astros.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he's dealing with a strained leg. Gordon Beckham will grab the start at third base. Brignac has had a solid spring so far with seven hits in 19 at-bats. That includes a homer and six RBI.

Braves signed INF Reid Brignac to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Brignac, who turns 30 in January, appeared in 17 games with the Marlins this past season and owns a lowly .219/.266/.310 batting line in the majors. He's simply organizational fodder at this point.

Marlins sent INF Reid Brignac outright to Triple-A New Orleans.

Brignac was designated for assignment by the Fish on May 8 and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 29-year-old is a .219/.266/.310 career hitter in the major leagues.

Marlins designated INF Reid Brignac for assignment.

Brignac was the odd-man out with Christian Yelich returning from the disabled list on Friday. There's a chance that he could pass through waivers and continue to function as organizational depth for the Marlins.

Marlins re-signed INF Reid Brignac to a minor league contract.

Brignac was cut at the end of March and elected free agency, but it appears he's had a change of heart. He'll report to the Triple-A New Orleans. Should the Marlins need some infield bench help, Brignac would get the call, as he was one of the last cuts in camp. Last season with the Phillies, the veteran hit .222/.300/.346 in 81 at-bats for the Phillies.

Reid Brignac has elected free agency.

Brignac, a non-roster invitee this spring, was among the Marlins' final cuts. He hit .222/.300/.346 in 81 at-bats with the Phillies last season. At best, he'll find work as a backup utility infielder, but he's not fantasy relevant.

Reid Brignac went 3-for-4 with three RBI against the Mets on Monday.

Brignac, a .222/.300/.346 hitter in 81 at-bats for the Phillies last season, is a fallback utility infield option for the Marlins if players get hurt this spring.
