Anthony Swarzak (ribs) will have his rehab delayed a couple of days after he had his wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday.

Swarzak fractured two ribs in January during an off-field incident with teammates and didn't appear in a Grapefruit League this spring. However, it shouldn't be long before he's ready to join the Twins' bullpen.

Anthony Swarzak (ribs) will pitch an inning in a minor league game Monday.

Swarzak was placed on the DL Friday, but since he won't be used in Grapefruit League games, he'll be eligible for activation on April 6. It sounds like he'll have a shot to be ready at that time.

Swarzak fractured two ribs in an off-field incident with his teammates. He's throwing off the mound again, though, and should be ready to join the bullpen sometime in April.

Anthony Swarzak (ribs) threw a successful bullpen session Wednesday.

It's his first since he fractured two ribs in an off-field incident with his teammates. "It was good," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He threw the ball over. That was good. He felt great. He said it felt great to be back on the mound again so that was good." Swarzak will begin the year on the DL, but it sounds like he won't miss too much time.

Swarzak threw around 40 pitches, though not at full intensity. He's itching to compete for a bullpen spot, but could begin the season on the disabled list.

Swarzak played catch for the first time this week and said he's progressing on schedule. There's still no timetable for when he'll throw off a mound or get into a Grapefruit League game, so the 27-year-old should be considered questionable for the start of the regular season.

Swarzak suffered the injury while horsing with around with teammates at the team's recent TwinsFest event. His absence will stretch into the Grapefruit League schedule. The 27-year-old had a 5.03 ERA and 62/31 K/BB ratio over 96 2/3 innings last season and is expected to operate as a long reliever in 2013.

Anthony Swarzak was hit hard in Tuesday’s loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering four runs on five hits over five innings.

Kelly Johnson’s two-run blast in the fourth inning provided the bulk of the damage. Swarzak, like so many of the Twins’ starting pitchers this season, had his fair share of struggles all summer. He finishes with a disappointing 3-6 record, 5.03 ERA and 62/31 K/BB ratio over 96 2/3 innings.

Anthony Swarzak will start Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Samuel Deduno isn't ready to go after leaving his last outing with left eye irritation, and the Twins decided to go with Swarzak over Brian Duensing. "Swarzak is starting," Gardenhire said. "We didn't have to use him yesterday, so he's the most rested. So we'll run him out there and however innings it takes, and then we'll ad-lib from there."

Twins activated RHP Anthony Swarzak from the 15-day disabled list.

Swarzak wound up missing around three weeks with a right rotator cuff strain. The right-hander had a 4.43 ERA in 69 innings before being placed on the disabled list. He will resume his role in middle relief.

Anthony Swarzak (shoulder) said he felt "terrific" during a seven-minute bullpen session Sunday.

It was the first time he had thrown from a mound since landing on the DL last month with a right rotator cuff strain. Swarzak should be able to begin a rehab assignment soon, with a return later this month looking likely if he can avoid a setback.
