Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that Anthony Swarzak (shoulder) has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation, and will stay in New York to receive treatment.
Swarzak has begun throwing off of flat ground as recently as Monday, but after feeling some discomfort, they're shutting the right-hander back down. Instead of travelling with the team to Florida, he'll stay behind and receive the treatment, and then figure out what the next step is in his recovery. His original ETA of early May looks to have taken a hit. Apr 18 - 4:31 PM

Anthony Swarzak (oblique) has thrown each of the past two days.

Swarzak, out two weeks with a left oblique strain, is scheduled to travel to the team's complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida in order to continue his rehab. He's still likely a couple of weeks away.
Apr 16 - 3:48 PM

Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said Wednesday that Anthony Swarzak (oblique) is still "weeks away" from a return.

Swarzak has already missed nearly two weeks with a left oblique strain and his return is oblique not imminent. It's sounding like the reliever's absence could stretch into May.
Apr 13 - 11:25 AM

Anthony Swarzak (oblique) is expected to miss at least a couple weeks.

Swarzak characterized his left oblique strain as "mild to moderate" during a short chat with reporters on Tuesday. The 32-year-old setup man was placed on the disabled list Tuesday morning. He signed a two-year, $14 million free agent contract with the Mets this winter after posting a strong 2.33 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 91/22 K/BB ratio in 77 1/3 innings last season between the White Sox and Brewers.
Apr 3 - 4:23 PM

Mets placed RHP Anthony Swarzak on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 1, with a sore left oblique.

Swarzak suffered the injury during Saturday's game. He underwent an MRI on Monday and will apparently require an extended absence. Look for more clarity on a timetable later in the day Tuesday. Hansel Robles will take his place in New York's bullpen.
Apr 3 - 9:13 AM

Anthony Swarzak will undergo an MRI on his sore oblique on Monday.

Swarzak left Saturday's game against the Cardinals due to the issue and is likely headed for a stint on the disabled list. We'll know more after Monday's MRI exam.
Apr 1 - 5:48 PM

Updating a previous injury item, Anthony Swarzak left Saturday's game against the Cardinals with a sore oblique.

That explains why Swarzak appeared to be holding his side as he left the game. If x-rays come back negative and he doesn't have a strain, he might avoid the disabled list, but the Mets might want to be cautious with the reliever and place him on the 10-day disabled list.
Mar 31 - 4:21 PM

Anthony Swarzak left Saturday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent injury.

Swarzak appeared to be in pain as he left the game with a trainer, and was replaced by Jeurys Familia. We'll update you when we find out more about the injury.
Mar 31 - 4:16 PM

Mets manager Mickey Callaway said Saturday that there are no restrictions on reliever Anthony Swarzak.

Swarzak was sidelined by a left calf strain in late February but returned to the mound in a simulated game Wednesday and should start to ramp up activity now that he's been cleared fully. Given the chance, Swarzak should work himself into a high-leverage role with the Mets, and is a name to remember for saves in the event Jeurys Familia stumbles.
Mar 17 - 5:01 PM

Anthony Swarzak (calf) threw two innings in a simulated game Wednesday morning in Mets camp.

Swarzak suffered a left calf strain in late February, but he is almost fully recovered and should be ready for the start of the 2018 regular season. The 32-year-old setup man signed a two-year, $14 million free agent contract with the Mets this winter after posting a strong 2.33 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 91/22 K/BB ratio in 77 1/3 innings last season between the White Sox and Brewers.
Mar 14 - 12:00 PM

Anthony Swarzak (calf) will pitch in a minor league game on Wednesday.

Swarzak has made quick progress from a strained left calf two weeks ago. Barring any setbacks, he should be able to get enough work to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 13 - 11:50 AM

Anthony Swarzak (calf) will throw a simulated game Sunday.

Swarzak strained his left calf nearly two weeks ago, but he resumed throwing shortly after the injury and has continued to progress. He should be cleared to return to game action if he gets through Sunday's simulated game with no issues.
Mar 11 - 10:42 AM

Anthony Swarzak (calf) threw another bullpen session Wednesday in Mets camp.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com says the 32-year-old right-hander "should be game-ready soon." Swarzak suffered a strained left calf in late February but seems probable now for Opening Day. He signed a two-year, $14 million free agent contract with the Mets this winter after posting a sharp 2.33 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 91/22 K/BB ratio in 77 1/3 innings of relief last season between the White Sox and Brewers.
Mar 7 - 1:04 PM

Anthony Swarzak (calf) said he felt "really good" after throwing a modified bullpen session on Monday.

Swarzak threw 20 pitches to test his strained left calf. The offseason addition suffered the injury while trying to cover first base last week, but it sounds like he managed to avoid anything serious. As long as he doesn't have a setback, he should have time to get ready for Opening Day.
Mar 5 - 11:13 AM

Anthony Swarzak (calf) will resume a throwing program Friday.

An MRI revealed that Swarzak has a strained left calf, which he suffered while trying to cover first base in an appearance Tuesday. It appears to be a minor strain given that he's already throwing again, although the real test will be when he returns to game action. Swarzak should be OK for Opening Day as long as he can avoid a setback.
