Anthony Swarzak (neck) allowed two hits and one earned run in his return to action Wednesday versus the Pirates.
But he struck out the other three batters he faced in the top of the eighth inning and came away with the win in Milwaukee's eventual 7-6 victory. Swarzak had been sidelined for a few games with a stiff neck. Aug 16 - 5:22 PM

Anthony Swarzak (neck) told reporters that he will be available out of the Brewers' bullpen on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

Swarzak slept wrong over the weekend and got a couple days off with a stiff neck. The right-handed setup man has registered a 1.42 ERA in seven appearances with the Brewers since they acquired him from the White Sox on July 25.

Brewers' manager Craig Counsell said after Sunday's game that Anthony Swarzak was unavailable due to neck stiffness.

The ailment seems to be pretty minor, but is worth monitoring going forward. The right-hander boasts a 2.14 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 62/15 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings this season.
Aug 13 - 5:54 PM

Anthony Swarzak struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to snare a save versus the Rays on Saturday.

Regular closer Corey Knebel had worked the last two days so he got the night off and Swarzak took the save opportunity. He fanned the first two batters before allowing a two-out single to Brad Miller. He induced a groundout from Adeiny Hechavarria for the final out. It was his second save of the season and first since coming to the Brewers from the White Sox in a deadline trade. He has a 2.18 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings overall.
Aug 5 - 9:53 PM

Brewers acquired RHP Anthony Swarzak from the White Sox for OF/3B Ryan Cordell.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports was first to report word of the swap. Swarzak arrives in Milwaukee as a reliable setup option for closer Corey Knebel, after registering a 2.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 52/13 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings this season on the south side of Chicago. The 31-year-old right-hander can become a free agent in November.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Anthony Swarzak has been traded to the Brewers.

No word yet on the return for the White Sox. Swarzak moved into the closer mix on the south side of Chicago last week when David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle were dealt to the Yankees and he earned his first career save on Monday afternoon against the Cubs. The 31-year-old right-hander boasts a 2.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 52/13 K/BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings this season. He is scheduled to become a free agent in three months.
Jul 25 - 7:17 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Brewers are in talks with the White Sox about reliever Anthony Swarzak.

Swarzak earned the first save of his career on Monday against the Cubs and boasts a 2.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 52/13 K/BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings this season. The 31-year-old right-hander is scheduled to become a free agent this winter, so he'd likely be a rental property for Milwaukee.
Jul 25 - 6:09 PM

When asked why he gave Anthony Swarzak a save chance Monday, White Sox manager Rick Renteria said "we went with the guy who's been throwing the best."

There's no doubt Swarzak, who closed out the Cubs on Monday with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, has thrown the best among the White Sox current relievers. However, that was the case five days ago, as well, when Renteria said that Tyler Clippard would get the first shot at closer following the trade of David Robertson. It might be a moot point soon, as there's a good chance Swarzark is dealt before the trade deadline. Both relievers should be owned for the time being.
Jul 24 - 9:33 PM

Anthony Swarzak recorded the first save of his career with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in Monday's win over the Cubs.

Tyler Clippard was seemingly available since he'd faced just one batter over the last two days, but manager Rick Renteria went with Swarzak, who retired the last batter of the eighth and pitched around an infield single and walk in the ninth. It's possible Swarzak has the leg up for saves now, but the situation is murky and there's a good chance he's traded before the deadline, anyway.
Jul 24 - 7:53 PM

Anthony Swarzak finally gave up his first runs of the season when Mike Trout took him deep Wednesday.

With his velocity well up, Swarzak had allowed just four hits in 19 2/3 scoreless innings coming into this one. Unfortunately, he gave up hits to all three batters he faced in this one, the last of them being Trout's three-run bomb.

White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Anthony Swarzak from Triple-A Charlotte.

Swarzak's velocity was up this spring, which helped him nab a bullpen spot. He'll work the middle innings.
Apr 2 - 1:38 PM

Anthony Swarzak's fastball has been clocked on average at nearly 96 mph this spring.

Swarzak was around 93 mph last season with the Yankees as a full-time reliever, but this is easily the hardest the 31-year-old has ever thrown. The righty says the adjustment is a mental rather than physical one, as he's "getting to that age where nothing is guaranteed for me so I'm kind of letting it all out there and I think I found another gear somewhere." Swarzak has a 3.86 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings this spring and has a good shot to make the White Sox' bullpen as a non-roster invitee.

Mar 27 - 7:49 PM

White Sox signed RHP Anthony Swarzak to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Swarzak had a rough 5.52 ERA in 31 innings (26 appearances) last season out of the Yankees' bullpen. The right-hander will struggle to earn a major league roster spot out of White Sox camp.
Jan 23 - 2:25 PM

Anthony Swarzak has elected to become a free agent.

Swarzak chose free agency over an outright assignment to the minors. The 31-year-old posted a 5.52 ERA in 26 appearances this season and will look for an opportunity elsewhere.

Yankees activated RHP Anthony Swarzak from the 15-day disabled list.

Swarzak missed nearly a month with rotator cuff tendinitis. He'll work mostly in mop-up duty.
