Royals re-signed outfielder Shane Costa to a minor league contract.
The deal does not include an invitation to spring training, so Costa will have to fight his way to big leagues during the regular season. He played just one game at Triple-A in 2009 due to a leg injury. Wed, Dec 16, 2009 11:33:00 AM

Royals outrighted outfielder Shane Costa to Triple-A Omaha.

Costa is back at Triple-A after clearing waivers on Thursday. Costa enjoyed a good spring training after recovering from wrist surgery last summer but never had a chance of making the Royals.

Royals designated outfielder Shane Costa for assignment.

Costa should have fallen out of the Royals' plans long ago, but the team kept him on the 40-man roster for nearly four years after he debuted in May 2005. He did go 15-for-33 this spring, but he never had a chance of making the team.

Shane Costa made his spring debut on Monday and went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored against the Giants.

Incredibly, Costa remains on the 40-man roster, even after missing much of last season following wrist surgery. That figures to change at the end of the spring, as the 27-year-old is out of options and will only have a chance of making the Royals if injuries strike the outfield.

Royals placed outfielder Shane Costa from Triple-A Omaha and placed him on the 60-day disabled list following wrist surgery.

Costa, 26, hit .295/.354/.469 for Omaha before getting hurt two months ago. He'll be lucky to keep his 40-man roster spot this winter.

Royals recalled outfielder Shane Costa from Triple-A Omaha.

Costa has hit .185/.194/.231 with no homers and an 18/1 K/BB ratio in 65 at-bats for the Royals this season. He'll see time in right field with Mark Teahen hurting, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll have any fantasy value.

Royals optioned outfielder Shane Costa to Triple-A Omaha.

Costa has hit .185/.194/.231 with no homers and an 18/1 K/BB ratio in 65 at-bats for the Royals this season. The team needs to leave him in Triple-A until September this time.

Royals recalled outfielder Shane Costa from Triple-A Omaha.

Costa was just sent down last night. He returns now as Mark Grudzielanek's replacement, but he'll only stay until either Ross Gload or Reggie Sanders comes off the DL.

Royals optioned outfielder Shane Costa to Triple-A Omaha.

Costa hit .196 with a 16/1 K/BB ratio in 46 at-bats after being recalled on May 4. It was hard to believe that the Royals kept him up for a full month before going to Joey Gathright.

Shane Costa went 0-for-4 on Saturday and is batting .206 and an 11/0 K/BB ratio in 34 at-bats since being called up three weeks ago.

It seems like time for the Royals to give Joey Gathright a try. It'd improve the defense at the very least, and Gathright has done a great job of getting on base in Triple-A this year.

Royals recalled outfielder Shane Costa from Triple-A Omaha.

Costa was picked over Joey Gathright after hitting .378/.458/.533 in 90 at-bats for Omaha. Unfortunately, there's not going to be many at-bats available for him as long as Billy Butler is playing regularly. It would take additional injuries to give him fantasy value.

Shane Costa had four hits on Wednesday and is now batting .317 in the Dominican Winter League.

Costa is still looking for his first homer, but he has four doubles and a triple in 63 at-bats. The soon-to-be 25-year-old will likely head back to Triple-A to begin next year unless the Royals move an outfielder. Should Reggie Sanders, Emil Brown or Joey Gathright get dealt, the club likely would be comfortable with Costa acting as a fourth outfielder.

Royals recalled outfielder Shane Costa from Triple-A Omaha.

Costa will see time in the outfield corners against right-handers and get the occasional start at designated hitter when Mike Sweeney needs a break. The at-bats should be there for him to have some value in AL-only leagues.
Sun, Sep 3, 2006 02:08:00 PM

Triple-A Omaha's Shane Costa went 3-for-3 with a homer and a walk in Tuesday's game.

Costa will rejoin the Royals in September, but he's probably not going to be worth using in AL-only leagues unless Reggie Sanders gets traded or Mike Sweeney is forced back to the DL.

Royals optioned outfielder Shane Costa to Triple-A Omaha.

Costa was hitting .314 with six doubles in 51 at-bats since being recalled last month, but with Mike Sweeney and Reggie Sanders healthy, there weren't going to be at-bats available for him. It won't be long before he gets another shot.
