Date:

Sean Marshall (shoulder) will make another rehab appearance with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Marshall struck out two in a perfect inning for Louisville on Monday. Reds manager Dusty Baker indicated that the lefty would need to appear in back-to-back games before being activated, though it's not clear if that's definitely the plan.

Reds manager Dusty Baker indicated that Sean Marshall (shoulder) will need a few more rehab appearances.

Marshall struck out two in a perfect inning for Triple-A Louisville on Monday. He's eligible to be activated on Tuesday, but Baker thinks the lefty could use a couple more appearances. "There could be some more [rehab games]," Baker said. "Usually one is not enough. You've got to do a day in between, then usually a back-to-back. We'll see how he comes out of this."

Sean Marshall (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance Monday night at Triple-A Louisville.

Marshall is eligible to return from the disabled list on Tuesday and will be activated as long as he doesn't wake up with unexpected discomfort. The left-hander has been out since April 8 with shoulder tendinitis.

Sean Marshall (shoulder) threw his second bullpen session on Saturday since being placed on the disabled list.

Marshall didn't report any setbacks and is close to being cleared for a rehab assignment. The Reds are hoping he'll be ready to return from the DL when first eligible Tuesday against the Cubs.
Apr 20 - 1:15 PM

Sean Marshall (shoulder) is expected to return from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, April 23.

That's the first day he will be eligible for activation. Marshall was placed on the disabled list April 10, retroactive to April 8, with left shoulder tendinitis. He has been throwing long toss this week with ease.
Apr 17 - 4:31 PM

Reds placed LHP Sean Marshall on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 8, with left shoulder tendinitis.

Marshall has been dealing with shoulder fatigue since the end of spring training and will now get a couple of weeks off to build his arm strength. Logan Ondrusek was recalled from Double-A Pensacola to take his place on the roster.
Apr 10 - 11:45 AM

Reds manager Dusty Baker admitted Tuesday that he's "still a little worried" about Sean Marshall (shoulder).

"He's not right," Baker added. Marshall dealt with left shoulder fatigue towards the end of spring training and has appeared in just one game so far during the regular season. An MRI last week revealed no structural damage, but it sounds like a trip to the disabled list might be needed, anyway, as he tries to regain strength. The Reds have good depth in their bullpen, but losing Marshall for an extended period of time would hurt.
Apr 9 - 6:21 PM

Sean Marshall (shoulder) is likely to pitch Sunday.

Marshall hasn't made an appearance yet this season because of left shoulder fatigue. It's not a major concern.
Apr 6 - 5:45 PM

Sean Marshall has been unavailable the past two games because of minor left shoulder fatigue.

Marshall is optimistic that he'll be ready to rock by Friday. The lefty boasts a 2.47 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 10.3 K/9 in 231 appearances since the start of the 2010 season. He is serving as Aroldis Chapman's setup man this year.

Sean Marshall retired the only batter he faced to nail down his eighth save of the season in Monday's win over the Braves.

With Aroldis Chapman unavailable due to his recent workload, Jose Arredondo started the ninth and retired the first two batters, but Marshall came on to record the final out after Arredondo issued a couple walks. The lefty will get the occasional save chance when Chapman has been overworked.

Sean Marshall was pulled from a save opportunity Saturday against the Yankees.

Marshall entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a three-run cushion, but he allowed two runs on four hits before getting pulled in favor of Jose Arredondo. Arredondo then got Derek Jeter to hit into a fielder's choice and Curtis Granderson on a ground out to first base to end it. Marshall has only blown one save in eight tries this year and has a solid 21/3 K K/BB ratio, but he owns an ugly 5.02 ERA over 14 1/3 innings. If the Reds truly have no intention of putting Aroldis Chapman in the rotation this year, the hard-throwing left-hander could eventually threaten for the closer job.

Sean Marshall converted his first save in May Monday, allowing a hit while striking out two in a scoreless inning against the Braves.

Matt Diaz singled to lead off the inning, but Marshall then got a flyout and a pair of punchouts to close the door. Marshall's 4.15 ERA and 1.54 WHIP pale in comparison to Aroldis Chapman's numbers, but he should still have a pretty decent leash in the ninth inning.

Sean Marshall was pulled out of a save opportunity after giving up a run in the ninth inning against the Brewers on Wednesday.

After taking over in a 2-0 game, Marshall gave up a solo homer to Ryan Braun and then two more hits. He ended up throwing 35 pitches to get just two outs. Still, he was taken out with the lead intact, and he ended up with the hold after Logan Ondrusek retired pinch-hitter Travis Ishikawa to end the game. Marshall's job as Cincinnati's closer is still safe.

Sean Marshall suffered his first blown save of the season in Thursday's loss to the Giants.

Marshall was a perfect 4-for-4 in save opportunities with a 2.84 ERA heading into Thursday's matinee. And now he's 4-for-5 with a 6.14 ERA. The 29-year-old left-hander remains one of the best relievers in baseball and should have little trouble bouncing back.
